Formoonsa Disc Review | Taiwan's First Menstrual Disc

  • Sorry for the delay on getting this review shared. You see, I filmed it all and edited and uploaded and then immediately after learned more information. All of it meant re-filming and editing would somehow be easier than editing the original into making sense. And the video is better for it now that I also have the new Mini size in my hands to showcase.
Formoonsa Disc is the first menstrual disc in Taiwan. This makes sense considering their Formoonsa Cup was also the first cup in Taiwan. The shape and design of Formoonsa Disc are meant to address the rotation issues of other notch discs with 1 notch. Is it perfect? No. But it's a solid disc and innovative design with a hybrid notch/pull ring.

Hi Kim, I'm a Taiwanese. I just want to thank you for sharing and selling Formoonsa Disc.
I'm very happy to see you introduce Formoonsa Disc, it's really mean a lot.
I saw someone very surprise about Taiwan just have a first menstrual cup and disc.
Taiwan is a relatively conservative society, most of us use menstrual pad or tampon, but tampon user is fewer.
Menstrual product is daily product in most country, but it's a medical product in Taiwan and our medical law have very strict limit for everything put into our body.
I remember few year ago, I saw someone shared her experience on the Internet, talk about "How to custom declaration for a menstrual cup", I only can say it really need a instruction for medical product's custom declaration.
The Formoonsa company went through a lot to apply sales license. It's a big step for Taiwan's women right .

THANK YOU so much for reviewing and making Formoonsa available in the US! Growing up in Taiwan in the 90s we had very few options for menstrual products. The only non-pad option is ob tampons and using tampons in rare occasions can be passive aggressively slut shamed. Vanessa is a true trailblazer who made menstrual options available in Taiwan, educated consumers (like what you do!) and made them gradually accepted by the Taiwanese market. I am glad you find Formoonsa disc one of the top discs and will definitely order one!!

I'm taiwanese and interested in getting this so the review is super helpful. The shallow notch worries me because I have high cervix and have previously gotten a cup stuck up there. I'm currently happy with my cup but would love to support taiwanese business - hope they come out with a better removal situation

Which is a shame because I just got a new cup 😂 I love your videos and that you aren't afraid to get personal! I'm in my 30s now but I wish I had resources like this when I was younger!
My first period came when I was 10 and my mom never encouraged pads, it was straight to tampons right from the beginning. I remember struggling and being too embarrassed to ask my mom so I am so glad young girls/women and even adults like myself having these as educational resources.

you are so thurough and concise, i wish you reviewed reusable cloth menstrual pads and liners as well as reusable cloth panties, leggings and swim wear. maybe even review disposable pads and liners that are supposedly non toxic and "natural" (veeda, joni, natracare, seventh generation, organyc, naty...etc,) like many others, i cannot wear anything that has to be inserted in my body , for a myriad of reasons. trial and error for poor people is just not an option, these things are so over priced it feels like the oppresive patriarchy trying to cram their misogynist toxic materials up my cooter.

I'm not sure if its just me but i have no issue with the loop, except that it takes a little more effort to wash. It's reliable, leak proof, and the auto dumping works well. This is my second menstrual disc and I'm so glad I've found my holy grail.

What is the diameter of the Formoonsa as compared to the Saalt disc(in mm if possible)? I might try the Hello and/or the Formoonsa if they differ a little bit.

I was so excited to use this when I saw it and now I have it!
When it’s in, it’s great! No leaks! However inserting has been tough! I put it in long way and one notch sticking towards the exit as Kim explains but it’s so soft that it takes me so many attempts to put it back in. I use water to help me but it just makes things slippery.
    Does anyone else experience this?

Thanks for all your videos, I'm currently looking to swap from cup to disc so they are super useful. My main problem with the cup was how difficult it is to empty it when yiu are in tiny public toilets where you almost can't squat and you don't want to touch the toilet seat. What's the best disc for this? And would autdumping solve the problem in these cases? Not sure how Easy autodumping is :)

I started using disc with Formosa, but personally, I don't like it that much 🤔 there are a few points to that.
First, the regular size is too long for me (although I am high cervix), it feels uncomfortable through to my intestine and very hard to autodump. I eventually put it sideways, that feels better. Second, the pattern outside could catch stains quite easily, and the disc still rotate anyway. Third, the loop mentioned in the video. Not very functional in my opinion, quite hard to grab. Also, blood is hard to wash off stuck in loops.
I eventually switch to hello disc for the above reasons, mainly for my comfort. I would say the extra long of the Formosa Disc is really a big no no for me. Quality wise, it is pretty good. I am happy Formosa disc introduced me into the menstrual disc world, sadly that's about it for me.
Glad to watch this video because I am so curious about how you think about it. Beautiful job 😊

Cleaning the disc seems like it would be a hassle due to the loops. Those loops are a great crevice for bacterial build up.

Sorry i have questions regarding the use of a menstrual disc and idk who to ask so if you, or any other watcher of this channel, can answer me, it would help me so much.
I watched all your videos as I was looking for a cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative to tampons, so i decided to buy a menstrual disc.
I took your website’s test when choosing the disc and used your tutorials when inserting it, but i have only one issue, and i don’t see anybody talking ab it so idk what to do
So I bought the lumma disc size S, & i inserted it correctly, because i checked and i tucked it properly behind the pubic bone, my cervix is inside it (i checked), i touched all the borders and its in place, the problem is the round part/“cup” part thats underneath the rim/border, it doesn’t open properly in the round shape, its like folded in itself a bit. This is my third change during this period, each time i tried with my finger to get it to open more, but it’s like when i create the eight shape during insertion, the cup part folds itself towards the inside following the eight shape i fold it in, and when i have put it in, it doesn’t expand/unfolds itself properly because the walls of the vagina from underneath kinda keep that space not “deep” enough and push it in itself. The only part that unfolds & permits the blood to be contained, is the part that has the vaginal canal below so there is no vaginal wall stopping it.
I thought, as the blood would pour in, the weight of the blood would help the disc take the same shape it has when its outside the vagina, and therefore permit the full capacity of it, but it didn’t and instead the blood started getting out when the capacity of the “punched-in” (sorry idk in what way to describe it) shape was finished. I think it didnt even reach 1/3 of the capacity it’s supposed to have.
Even from watching the video tutorials, it seems as if the vagina walls would shape themselves around the form of the disc, instead in my case it seems as if the walls and the insertion process are shaping the disc.
So… anybody has any tips? Did i make a mistake in inserting it? Do i have the wrong size/disc and maybe another size, brand or type of disc would have fit me better?
Also to give further context. I am a virgin, 21 years old, first time menstrual disc user and never used a menstrual cup, usually i use tampons, medium height cervix and i don’t have a tilted cervix. My flow is considered medium or light.
The diameter/circumference of the lumma disc S seems to fit me as I comfortably tucked it behind the pubic bone and behind the cervix, the rim itself adhered well to the vagina walls, after each use i had to untuck the disc from behind the pubic bone so i dont think the issue was it slipped in my vaginal canal.
Also i have been working in a standing position during the use, so it cannot be possible that the spill was caused by auto-dumping happening.
It is also not a small spill, i had the disc in for 10 hours (the capacity is supposed to be 12 hours) & i had put a pad for safety reasons and the pad ended up full, so that’s a lot of blood that wasn’t contained. The disc wasnt even 1/5 full due to the folds.
And my flow is not heavy, I usually change a tampon/pad every 8-10 hours during my heaviest day.
I’m so confused if this is normal, and for discs, capacity-wise, i have to take into consideration the anatomy and depth of the upper part of the vagina where the disc sits…. or if instead the disc is supposed to unfold into its proper form…. somebody help plsss idk anybody irl who uses a disc so i cannot ask anybody around me! & sorry for the massive TMIs and detailed descriptions

I don't know what to do because I think that while my cervix is quite high, my diameter is very narrow. I've tried MeLuna cup in a size S, it seems to be one of the smallest cups and it's still too wide for me. I couldn't put it inside, so I started thinking about dics because they seem more narrow while folded? idk any thoughts on narrow diameter and what to use?

Hey Kim, I have a friend who has seen a menstrual disc on amazon the brand says heyhera it looks exactly like the formoonsa disc and says that the formoonsa is the manufacturer from Taiwan. I was wondering if you knew anything about it because I have tried looking for more info on heyhera and have not been able to find anything about it. If you can reply I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!
I am concerned that this brand is not truly the formoonsa brand and is some kind of knock off. Which is not ok at all. It is the same price as the formoonsa disc. It recently went on sale (within last couple days) down to 39 dollars I believe is what she saidthe sale price is. But like i mentioned I have seen absolutely nothing about heyhera on the internet and can find absolutely nothing about them.
The heyhera ones are also different colors. I am asking for a friend that likes the style of the formoonsa.
I personally love the hello disc!
Again thank you so much for everything you do. You absolutely are an amazing woman who cares.
Thank you for everything you do!

I got the heyhera disc. And now I'm wondering if the from Taiwan getting is a lie. And if it is safe to use. Like maybe in the last 8 months other companies in Taiwan have made discs. Or they're just saying it's from Taiwan. You seem to have a lot more resources than I do and I'm not sure how to go about finding out.
