I love your channel, Marion. I have met a lot of European, North American and Australian people who don't really appreciate the joys of Asian cuisine... I've heard a lot of them say that the taste is too strong, some find eating the food with rice quite strange, some find the sweet-sour/sour-salty combo too disconcerting for their palates. Where I am in UK, there are some Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and other Asian restaurants but I discovered that they don't taste like "real" Asian food... I believe they may have been adjusted to suit the British taste buds (quite understandable, but still). So seeing you cook all of these marvelous Asian dishes, with your own personal twist, is so wonderful to see, and just makes me overall giddy. Great channel and more power to you!

Marion, I LOVE crispy pork belly! Who doesn’t, right? Considering it’s Chinese New Year weekend, this is great for all the folks who want to treat themselves on something special.
I just wish I could buy pork belly where I live but my city is too small and they don’t carry it. One day....for now, I’ll have the recipe and try the sauce.

Hi Marion, you had many different crispy pork belly videos through out the years, each of them have slightly different methods (some you used the toothpick, some you used knife scoring, some you didn't use water, some you left in the fridge, ect...) which method is the best? Which video/method makes the crispiest pork skin would you say? I'm having some trouble with picking one to follow.

I'm the only (non-smoked) crispy pork belly eater in this house so I only make a pound of it at a time. After making this version I think that's probably still a good bet since I'm probably going to inhale all of it. 😂😂 I didn't have star anise so I added a few dashes of Chinese five-spice powder to the water prior to roasting. Fantastic recipe! Thank you!

Hi Marion, I sourced the Chilli Bean sauce known as Toban Djan. It resembled the sauce you used in your recipe. The one you mentioned to get in you video was Doubanjiang, however that one was darker in colour more black bean dominant. Thank you for your recipe.

For the 1st step the recipe calls for roasting it at 300* for 3 hrs. Do you think it would work to do it in slow cooker for say 5 hrs on high instead? I really don't like using the oven that long for smaller pieces of meat.

As an Asian (most Asians like or don't mind eating fatty meat) I would say that the amount of fat when choosing pork belly depends on the dish. For some dishes, eg braised pork belly or roast pork, I prefer more fat (actually a lot of it) because it brings out the texture of the pork while for some other dishes, eg noodle or veg dishes where pork belly is sliced thinly, I prefer less fat. Therefore to me there isn't a hard and fast rule in that sense, unless you are someone no doesn't like a lot of fat at all.

Looks so so delicious but some of the ingredients are difficult to get. I find that alot with the recipes.

I find that most pork belly comes with the skin removed. Can you do this method with skinless belly. I smoke a lot of pork belly and sell it at work and at my favorite pubs. It's better than the belly that they sell at the pub.I share it with the cooks in the back 😋.

I would just use only the miso part of the miso + chili substitution she suggested as an alternative to doubanjan.

Just curious. When you say low heat oven how low are we talking about?
