I would have to add getting slowly erased & two-dimensional to my top 5 fears. My worst fear being stuck underground like in the Blair Witch or stuck like Ted the Caver but permanently. I almost have panic attack just thinking it

Ive been working my way through the Habitsville stories while I replay Bloodborne, and I really had to put the control down and just listen with this one. The sequence with the woman becoming low-resolution took 110% of my attention.

This was a brilliant story and so well narrated as always! loved how different it was an didn’t involve some monster or being. The fact the title didn’t give away the story was great too! 😊
This is how I know I'm weird I read some of the comments and they boiled down "my deepest fears" and, aspiration and inspirations to the well respected and dearly beloved, BUT when he said "I couldn't smell a thing" and mentally, hissing 𝑪𝑶𝑽𝑰𝑫 in my brain like a deranged gremlin hissing disinfectant spray ヽ(ヅ)ノ

I'm pretty sure the implication is he escaped because his senses are coming back as he gets further away, but that does still leave the question of whether or not nothing will keep spreading or not. Maybe it's sort of like radiation where it has a certain area of effect but dissipates and weakens the further it gets from its source?

My guess is that the vault is a bridge to a strange pocket dimension that sucks the details out of everything. So, when the robbers went in to steal what they thought was money, they open the floodgates to that world to ours, presumably consuming the robbers too. At least, that’s what I got from this.

When I was younger, my grandfather died. We went to spread his ashes at a River/campground. I had a cousin tell me that if I followed the river long enough, the world would end... This is what I imagined at the time (save for any monsters/people)

I have a question
At the end when the employees only door sealed shut, I guess I'm kind of confused weather he made it through just in time and saw it was sealed right after he went though it, or did he not make it there in time?
My understanding was that since it’s become 2d and flat like everything else in the vault, he can’t even interact with the handle leaving him trapped in there to turn into flat Stanley.
He just barely escaped back to the lobby of the bank (hence him remarking on the cold feeling of the marble floor) and had observed that the way back was inaccessible since the employee door had flattened and sealed behind him. Sam is also a recurring character in the habitsville stories (which are connected somewhat) and there are more stories set after this one so he definitely survives
