What's your preferred reading format?? Physical book, ebook, or audio book?
Also, do you prefer paperback or hardcover books?
Nothing beats the feeling of paper in my hands.
I love listening to audiobooks, but English isn't my first language, so when I listen to audiobooks in English I can't understand almost anything at all unless I've already read the book. (Reading the book in English is much easier for me to understand the first time than to listen to it.)
For reading purposes, audiobook all the way.
I started listening to audiobooks back in 2013 when I was doing a data entry job that required basically zero language processing while I drew boxes around objects in an image for a computer vision machine learning thing and so listening to an audiobook was a way to keep that part of my brain engaged. Otherwise I probably would've gone crazy.
I've since transitioned to a career in accounting and so I can't listen while working, but I still listen during commutes and while lying in bed before I go to sleep, so I still get my time in.
Before that though, I had transitioned almost entirely to reading eBooks due to the convenience.
All that said, I still love physical books as items with the smells and the tactile feelings the paper imparts and would love to have a huge library, I just have a hard time using them to read.

I'm not kidding when I say that audiobooks have increased my 'reading' 10 fold. I finish a book now pretty much every 10-14 days. Before, I could only complete a book once a month at the max. i love being able to listen while cooking, doing chores, going on walks, public transit. I LOVE AUDIOBOOKS,
They've defintiely increased the amount of books I 'read' too! Lately I've mostly just been listening to audiobooks and it's super convenient since I can get all my house work and what not done at the same time
Nothing beats the feeling of reading from a paperback, but I read almost exclusively via eBook (or audiobook) now. Sadly that comes down to A ) book prices in Australia are absolutely BONKERS mate, and... B ) I don't think I could physically store them if I did buy physical books for everything I read... also the relentless dusting can bite my A. I'm not convinced I could have finished Stormlight Archive in my lifetime without Audiobooks during work 😂
Don't get my started on dusting, sometimes I regret buying black shelves 😂 I'm most likely going to be switching to eBooks for a lot of my reading due to the price of books. Ahaha yeah audiobooks definitely contributed to me finishing The Stormlight Archive as well, and I'm still making my way through Wheel of Time via audio. Most my reading lately has been through audiobooks, but I'm starting to miss picking up a good physical book

As someone who moves a lot fomr one place to another, physical books are a big no.
Closing the back cover on a physical book after finishing it is just so satisfying. Also, the feel of turning a page is fantastic. I like audiobooks, but certain benefits that other people get from audiobooks like listening to it while doing other things won’t work for me. I have to focus on listening. However, listening to an audiobook goes much faster since I’m actually a slow reader, but I can make playback go at 1.5x speed
I prefer physical books but primarily read e-books and Audiobooks for convenience. I buy physical books only if I enjoy them and they are re-readable. Listening to it as I read it is my favorite way to experience a book. The experience is undisputed. Nice Video!
Physical books for me. I like the feeling of progress turning the page gives and I feel a sense of pride as well when see my bookmark reaching further and further towards the end. I always end up spacing out listening to audiobooks (short attention span?) so I usually leave those for re-reads.
I took a while for me to be fully convinced by e-books but I am now a complete convert, especially since getting the Kindle Paperwhite. Being able to read in the dark is great as it allows you to read when your partner is asleep. I also like that it syncs with the Kindle App on your phone, so if I'm having to wait in a queue or for a bus/train I can read a few pages to kill the time. Finally, I love being able to look up the definition of a word just by holding my finger on it!
I also listen to audiobooks either when I'm walking (used to be great when getting some fresh air with the baby) or when doing chores like cleaning the kitchen or hanging up washing. You'd be surprised at how quickly you can work your way through an audiobook this way. I also agree that the narrator has to been excellent. With the right person it can feel like they are hooked up directly to your brain and it feels effortless to build up a picture of the scene they are describing.
The one main advantage of a physical copy of the book is easier access to maps or a glossary - much less practical for e books and audiobooks. I found this invaluable when reading the Song of Ice and Fire books a while back.
Im with Katie on this. Audiobook + physical book. the physical book keeps my focused on the story and there is something i love about having a physical book in hand.

I’m a weird outlier: mass market paperbacks are the superior format. They’re the perfect size to hold, they fit in a bag without getting beaten up, and the words on a line are the perfect amount. I don’t always have the brain power to focus on audio or screens, but a holding a book keeps me grounded in it.
I love audiobooks primarily nowadays because I can listen whilst going about boring but necessary 'life stuff', but I have got to a point where I miss having physical books around. For books or series I particular enjoy in audiobook format I'll often buy the physical versions too, at release or down the road (plus, some hardcovers are just beautiful). There's nothing quite like a bookshelf to make you feel cosy.
I will read physical books too, but to a lesser extent. I do find that the difference in the experience between listening/reading is usually stark enough that I'm happier 'reading' two different books at once, than if they were both physical/audio, so that's a plus too.
When I was little I also inherited my mom's old cassette audiobooks, so I have good memories of audiobooks from way back to further push me into team audio's camp.
I can't get behind eBooks. I did receive a kindle as a gift some years ago, and I'm ashamed at how neglected it was. Not for me.
I've mostly been listening to audio books these days, and I'm starting to miss sitting down and reading a physical book 😂 but I agree, audio books are great because you can listen to them while getting other stuff done. Often times I'll also buy physical books of the audiobooks I enjoy.
My grandma gave me this old cassette collection of a dramatized version of Lord of the Rings which was so awesome! Wish I had a cassette player now so I could listen to it again haha
I read ebooks so much faster than physical books. Reading through the comments made me feel not alone in that, I wonder why it is that way for some of us 🤔 After a while my eyes fatigue from screen reading. For that reason and for the feeling of reading from paper is why I prefer physical books. The feel and the smell of tangible books (hardback or softcover) makes books feel like they have a soul, which I think is lost in electronic form. However listening to an audiobook on my commute or at the gym is rad too.
Does the eye fatigue also happen on Ereader with Eink displays? Cause that's a game changer in reading ebooks, at least for me
Why you read faster with ebooks could be because ebooks frames the texts at your line of sight which makes it easier to focus on the part you are reading whereas with physical books, you can see two whole pages of texts which can be distracting sometimes.
Hi there. I mainly listen to audiobooks due to my legal blindness. I have to wear contacts and glasses in order to see. I have 20/200 vision in my right eye with correction and 20/400 in my left. I also really like to get digital books, because I can use Alexa or the text to speech feature to read. This has actually allowed me to read indie books, which more often I can't get access to very well.
Since I got my kindle last year I haven't read a physical book. It's just so easy to go from one book to another with eBooks. But I do still find myself picking up my old paperbacks and flicking through just to hold them. I've never listened to an audiobook I feel I wouldn't be able to focus on it and I like the process of sitting down and just reading listening doesn't feel quite the same
I think ebooks are becoming more popular maybe.
I practice my Japanese reading by reading the book while listening to audiobook in the background. If you also want to speed read a book, get a physical copy while listening to its audiobook in increased speed.
I'm learning English with fantasy literature. And combination of ebook and audiobook is necessary for this purpose. With ebook I learn the words. And with audiobook I learn pronunciation. And it's generally much easier to remember when you can hear the text. It's so much easier and more funny to learn languages now when we have access to all this great audiobooks with transcript.

Commuting to work via car? Audiobooks.
Commuting by public transportation or reading in the bed? Ebook reader (with backlight display).
In the end, I personally prefer my ebook reader. Instant access, saves some money and really a lot of resources in the long run. And you basically have your whole library in your bag.
I wouldn't want to miss my Discworld Collectors Library Edition and other high quality prints however.
I have dyslexia & adhd, so audio & ebooks are my jam. With ebooks I can specify which font, and the space between the lines. Not a big deal with easy reads, but its especially helpful for heavy nonfiction, deffinately if its lexicon heavy. Audiobooks have greatly increased the volume of content I listen too, and being able to speed things up to the speed of my adhd is very handy.
I mainly read on Kindle for convenience -- super lightweight, warm backlight so I can read in the dark, being able to take notes/highlight and define words right on the screen. To supercharge my Kindle experience, I will also sometimes listen to the audiobook while reading at the same time, what some call "Immservie Reading". Highly recommend trying it out!
Of course, I do still love the occasional paperback though.
I'm thinking of getting a Kindle instead of just reading ebooks on my phone. Immersive Reading is great! I do that a lot, and I find that it helps me stay focused on the words!
It's been a while since I really sat down and read a book as opposed to listening to the audiobook, but when I did, having the features of the Kindle on top of the normal ebook convenience was a huge boon. I absolutely loved the ability to long press on a word, and have it pull up the definition right then and there.
@@CapturedInWords Surpised you didn't already have one haha. It's been fantastic having my entire library on the go. Only charge it once a month or so.
I've gone all-in on ebooks. I like being able to manage my digital library on a computer and know that I everything I own is in there, not split between formats. I also use calibre to convert everything to epub to ensure I never lose ownership of them due to some company no longer existing. Finally, I like that I can pick up where I left off on different devices if I discover while I'm out somewhere that I have time to read a chapter.
Physical for shelves and when I’ve got time, Ebook for travel, audiobooks for walks / rucking / cardio / working out / driving. They all have their place.
Hear me out, this one might be unique. As someone who has only recently started reading for entertainment I prefer ebook above anything else. All the years of studying and only reading when I "had" to sort of made a negative connotation with paper/hard cover books. Whenever I pick one up it feels as if I need to study. Whereas the kindle is in my brain more like a phone or a tablet and it feels like I am relaxing and not doing a chore.
I do prefer hardbacks. But like others have said my eyesight is getting worse so I appreciate being able to enlarge the font of ebooks. But I read all 3 formats. Currently listening to Gathering Storm, often when I shower too. I can commiserate on moving books. I recently moved. It was literally to the apartment next door, but it was the worst move ever. We think we have about 15,000 books! When we moved 17 years ago we estimated we had about 6,000 and hadn’t planned on moving again. Fortunately I we had several months to move and paid my wonderful nephew to move all the heavy stuff, including books. We bought 11 more bookcases. What should be a large dining room is filled with books, all the hallways are lined with bookcases and 2 smaller rooms are almost entirely books. So anything I can get on Kindle helps. The reality is there are many duplicates across audio, hardback, paperback and ebook. Like you I love special editions too. Hopefully this is our last move as this one was exhausting. And I still have about 20 bankers boxes of books from when I was a teacher to take to Bookmans for credit. But even with all the hassle I love my book collection.

Luckily I discovered Libby and can now afford getting 40 audiobooks a month! Started reading WoT in August and am just starting book 8 today.
I love owning and collecting books. Nothing will ever beat the feeling of a new book in your hand when first experiencing the story.
That said, being an adult means most of time is spent at work. So the convenience of having an audiobook going on while I work 12 hours every night means most of my book reading these days is done like a good Vorin man.
If you have a job where you can listen to audio books, that's perfect! Lately I haven't had much free time so I'm often listening to audio books when I get the chance, so it's the Vorin life for me too haha! Some times I definitely miss holding a physical book though
Audiobooks are all I buy anymore. I drive a vehicle for a famous mapping company about 6-10 hours/day and I can get through 2-3 books a week this way. Now I can finally tell people truthfully that I've "read" all the books that I already told them that I read years ago!
Classics? Done. All of Brandon Sanderson's novels? Done. Etc.
The beautiful thing about physical books is you dont have to charge them up before turning the next page
I definitely prefer physical books, but sometimes an audiobook narrator is so go I have to get the audio version (i.e. Dresden Files)
I notice it myself too. When i am reading Ebooks i read way faster than when i read physical.
I personally prefer physical books especially the 20cm (or 19,8cm) paperbacks (very specific, i know, dont judge me) but recently i have gotten into audiobooks too. Basically i first read a book in paperback or hardback form and when i reread it i pick up an audiobook. There are some exceptions ofcourse for example: when a book is more than 800 pages, even on a first read trough, i sometimes switch between audio and physical because otherwise it would take too long.
I prefer physical books because Ebooks on gadgets gets set aside for other things I could do on gadgets. The same goes for Audiobooks. I cant concentrate to listen to the story while doing something else.
Ebooks are my favorite reading format. They have been my go to ever since I used a nook simple touch when I was a kid. I also use audiobooks in combination with my ebooks which is so much more immersive and interactive. I’ve read more books as ebooks than physical books. Plus my whole library is on my ereader which is my IPad mini. It saves me money too. Team ebook/audiobooks all the way! When my eyes need a break audiobooks are so amazing.
I always prefer to read a visual book (paperback, hardcover, or ebook), but I am able to read twice as many audiobooks per month as visual books because I just don’t have the time to read only visual books. But I have to be careful with the type of audiobooks I listen to because if it’s epic fantasy, I usually get lost in all the new terms and the new world, etc. so I usually can only listen to light fantasy or contemporary fiction books via audio and save the heavy reading for visual books. But I prefer both. I regularly read from all four formats. :)
I gave audiobooks a try and while I enjoyed the voice actors and the effort put into them, I just can't do it. It's basically the saying "in one ear out the other" when I listen to audiobooks. I would listen while driving and at work, I'm an overnight janitor so mundane tasks, and while I would enjoy the stories in the moment most of the books I forget nearly everything pretty quickly after. I listened to Mistborn 2 and 3 and I remember 2 but basically nothing about book 3. This kept happening, where I would think back on a book and just remember almost nothing so kinda just gave up on it
So some people like eBooks because it saves them space and money while others go the exact opposite route and buy the physical book as well as the audiobook... interesting.
Physical books are so nice on my shelf & ebook borrowed from the library to read on my phone so I always have my book & audiobook so I don't have to stop while I'm driving! (Also love to listen and read along!) I PICK THEM ALL!!!
I LOVE beautiful Hardback Books and I wish I could read them. After my eyes have gotten worse and a neck injury its just to much easier to listen to Audiobooks. I love any thing narrated by Nick Podehl. So I will have both a beautiful collection of hardcovers and a huge Audiobook collection. A match made in heaven.
Nick Podehl is such a great narrator!! I'm hoping one day he could narrate my book once I have it published. Hardback books definitely look beautiful on a shelf!
I'm grateful for all formats because it means I can fit reading into any part of my day without breaking the budget too badly. Audio for the Gym, chores, driving. Physical when I can afford to buy and usually only when it's deals and/or series that I love. Digital for the rest! :)

For me, you can't beat the experience of reading a physical book. That's easily the winner for me. I do listen to audio books in the car though. Not too many ebooks anymore. I feel if you do ebooks you defiantly need a dedicated ebook reader that is only an ebook reader. Also hardcover over paperback, just feels better in the hand. I'll remove the dustjacket and leave it at home until I'm done with the book.
Nothing beats having a physical book but i consume almost completely audiobooks . I can listen to books at work all day, during random tasks, basically at all times while doing other things. I can get through so many more books, especially at 1.5x speed.
But I’ll still go buy and collect the physical books of the ones I love. And if I get into a series mid way through and a new one drops then I will almost always physically read it and then listen to it for the 2nd time through. I can just go so much faster physically reading and if it’s a new drop I tend to not put it down. So I can focus more time to it.
But ya like 40-50 books a year. 90% audiobooks. I’ve probably completely shattered my attention span, cause I need an audiobook in my ear at all times if I’m doing any mindless task, like dishes or laundry, or work 😂
But I CANT do ebooks at all. It kills my eyes and headaches. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten through a whole ebook.
For some reason I've never sped up the narration. In the rare cases when I read the physical book while listening to the audio book I will usually read ahead and then stop and wait for the narrator to catch up 😅
Using Wheel of Time as an example. Having read the entire series nearly two dozen times, listening to it on audio I caught things that I had missed in all those re-reads. As far as a preference in type of book I've went heavily into ebooks. Easy to keep buying, entire library travels with me. I do my ereading on a tablet though instead of my phone. I use a Samsung Tab-A, which puts the reading format fairly close to a trade paperback. I do still buy physical copies, but usually collectors editions, special editions, etc.. They look amazing on the shelf and are great to kick back in a chair and read at home. Keep up the good work!
since i have no time for physical books i choose audiobooks, especially if the narrator is good. last week i started listening to the first law series and i was so exited because it is narrated by the same actor who narrated the kkc (in my native language)! such an enjoyable experience!

I read ebooks and audiobooks exclusively. I switched in 2003 when the first Kindles came out. I love having access to my entire library on my phone or tablet.

Physical books, partly for a tactile reason (I'm not a native english speaker, so not sure if it's the right word). The feel of a book in my hands, even the smell. The feel when turning a page. Physical books are very calming imo. Reason #2 It gives better reading comprehension and makes it easier to follow the text if it's complicated and to remember the content. (A study came out recently that confirms this to be true) #3 It's easier on the eyes #4 Lastly; A Kindle/pad do not give me the same cozy feeling when I snuggle up to read and relax with a cup of tea. New tech is often convenient (like on a trip) but it's not "cozy" And I prefer hardcover books.
Audio books can be great under certain circumstances (and if the narrator is good). But I only use them when I'm either bedridden and too tired to read or when my hands are busy with knitting. =D
I love physical books but in the end, for the sake of consumption ebooks > physical > audio. I tried audio and it is nice when my eyes hurt from binging brandosando books, but I kept losing myself and had to listen with the book in hand to retain the story.

In order of my preference (if I'm sitting and singularly bent on reading):
1) physical books (esp. paperbacks)
2) ebooks
3) following along the physical/ebook reading with the audio (reading+audio)
4) audio (if busy, I, mostly, tune out easily though)
There's something awe inspiring about physical books - a) the deeper focus, printing/binding work, the tactile paper feel, the smell, the sound of page turns b) the sheer size/weight of a volume representing, as it were, an entire civilization or history - or, the labor/sweat of the writer c) simplicity - no cables, no battery, no charging d) You can drop a book from a 100ft and it will, faithfully, remain a book (if it does come apart, you won’t have to worry about shattered glass or e-waste) e) can be used as fuel if you’re in the woods - lol
I’d say ebooks are good mainly for logistic reasons but also you can a) store/carry hundreds of books b) highlight, search, annotate, copy/paste, etc b) carry out research/analysis work easier c) provide accessibility - font size, light etc; also accessible in terms of Internet/cloud storage, microsd cards etc
But, overall, I'd say, use all forms depending on your situation - when you have time, physical book/ebook are the best; but when you’re busy or driving, audio books will work although they are sometimes challenging to stay focused (esp. when the reader is boring)

As a book reader: paperback>hardcover>ebook>audiobook. As a collector: hardcover>paperback>ebook>audiobook. I find I connect more with the text in a physical book, and as many commented, I also often zone out during audiobooks. Regarding one of the commentor saying that she only does audiobooks for nonfiction, I understand that. A narrator becomes a bridge between you and the author, so people not wanting to do that for important fiction reads is valid. I only save audiobooks for books that are honestly less important to me.
I've started liking ebooks over physical for ploughing through books. Also, if I have my Kindle people don't bother me as much about what I'm reading as when I have a colorful fantasy book in my hands. But if I want to go back and forth and check out what was said earlier, physical is the way to go.
I specifically like to read ebooks on my Kindle PaperWhite. I think reading on my phone definitely contains many distractions. The kindle provides the convenience of ebooks with a much softer feel on my eyes. I also do a lot of reading late at night and early morning when everyone in my house is sleeping. Grabbing my Kindle is much easier than finding a reading light or turning on a lamp.
Hardcover all the way. For me the only reason to get the paperback would be if I didn't have the money for the hardcover (unfortunately as a student that is often a reality). I do have access to an extensive ebook library, but even then I often just rather have the book in my hands (but again, student, not always an option). I do occasionally have an audiobook going in the background, but those are "bonus-stories" that I probably wouldn't spend my dedicated reading time to.
What is my preferred format? With a long commute I listen to a lot of audio books, but will read a physical copy when I have time at home.
I'm reading mostly trough Ebooks, it can be great if you can find a comfortable way to read them. I always have trouble getting comfortable reading physical books. Like JUST HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO HOLD THAT SHIT? DUNE IS LIKE 500 PAGES, AND MY COPY IS HARDCOVER!
I love physical books since it is a nice distraction from screen time since I work all day on a computer and spend most evenings studying with my personal laptop. I also use audiobooks as a way to filter out background noise when I am trying to fall asleep, it only gives me one thing to concentrate on to prevent my brain from going down the rabbit hole of thoughts. I am considering getting a kindle/e-book reader for Christmas when I finish my studies.
They're all great for different reasons!
I much prefer physical books. I have an e-reader as it's easier to check out library books and it's nice for really cheap books if I'm not sure I want to spend the full amount on a physical book. It's also nice to have a different form factor when I get in a rut.
I don't generally do audio books. They're spensive other than the library and I feel like I don't retain the info as well. Also, the quality of the narrator varies widely...
I have a low attention span and listening to the audio book while reading along with it on my e reader really helps me focus. I can buckle down and focus and just read as well but I cannot just listen, I have to have the book there to ground me.

I exclusively read ebooks. The reason this works for me is that I would often feel like it would take me way too long to get through a physical book. When contemplating purchasing or borrowing a physical book, I would see the size & page count and get intimidated. Holding the book, I was always reminded that the book was large. That would make me feel like I wasn't getting through it fast enough. Ebooks stay the same small size no matter the page count. There is no intimidation and it feels great in my hands. I've tripled the amount of books I consume because of that.
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is an amazing narrator; he really makes things come alive. Adjoa Andoh is fantastic too - definitely recommend checking out the books she narrates (which is most genres).
Wow he's narrated a lot of great series, I'll definitely be listening to some of his audio books! I'll also give Adjoa Andoh a listen too, it looks like she's narrated a lot!
I enjoy reading a physical book when I have a break or holiday, but honestly almost 90% of my "reading" is done via audiobooks. The voice actor/narrator can make or break them, but it's super easy to put one on while driving or on a shift where I don't have much social interaction. I tried ebooks and just couldn't seem to focus on them as well as physical books.
As I've gotten older...I've switch over to audiobooks more, but if my eyes worked better, physical books would be my choice.
I’m another who struggles to concentrate with Audiobooks. I keep trying to get used to them because I’d love to be able to consume a book while doing chores. My biggest problem with them is not easily differentiating between when characters are thinking and speaking. Paperbacks are my favourite.
I personally love physical books the best because nothing beats having a real book in your hands and feeling that paper as you turn the page. Plus it doesn’t hurt my eyes as much cause I’m not starting at a screen for hours
Situational. I prefer physical books but I had to switch to Ebooks. I live in the Caribbean where there are no English book stores. Ordering a book takes 2-3 weeks and once it gets here, the climate destroys them. Mold is a HUGE problem. For this reason, I have been forced to change to eBooks. I have nothing against audio books but I prefer creating my own voices for each character in my head instead of listening to someone else. Occasionally I llisten to audiobooks when I do dishes but thats about it.
Why do I have to choose which format is better? All three have benefits. I like and use them all three. I’ve been reading for more than 40 years, so physical books have a historical dominance, but my reading life has improved by including audiobooks and ebooks. I would encourage everyone to read all three formats.
For the folks who can’t focus on audiobooks, it’s a skill that can be learned.
I like physical and audio books. I've tried e-books, but I had a hard time concentrating on it for an extended period of time. I'm currently reading the Lightbringer series physically and listening to the First Law series on Audible.
I want to like physical books but I'm dyslexic and because of that read super slowly and can't focus so audiobooks is pretty much the only way for me but I want to be the guy who reads a paperback
My favorite is definitely a physical paperback book. After that I like e-books as well. I don’t enjoy audiobooks because I get distracted easily and sometimes I don’t hear the words right.

I just about had a kitten when you read my comment!!! It is so interesting seeing how people feel about how they consume their books… It’s really cool that we have so many options now, which enable people who have less down time to still enjoy books!

‘Memory, Sorrow and Thorn' is SO good! It took a while for me to get invested in it, but I really love those books. Haven't listened to the audio for it though, maybe I'll give those a listen! And I agree, it's great that we have so many reading options now
I loved Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, and it was probably my first "epic" fantasy when I was younger. I never could get into reading Tolkien, but for some reason MST just worked for me.
Warning, potential minor spoilers for an event in one of the books:
I recently re-read them (I say recently, but in hindsight it might've been like 10 years ago) and I actually had to take a break at one point when one of the POV characters (I think it was Tiamak) was going down a river on a raft and had to dive into the water with the creatures there (I can't remember if they were like crocodiles, or were actually just crocodiles) but that whole section made me INCREDIBLY anxious and I just had to put it down for a bit and calm down.
Turns out I have a very strong aversion to swampy marshy water where you can't see and there are things in it that will happily eat you.
It's funny how powerfully a story can affect you, even if you are consciously aware of how illogical it is to be worried in that situation.

To be honest, I’m more into audiobooks because it allows me to get more reading done when I’m doing mundane tasks, like laundry, cooking etc. and also a good narrator can enhance any book. For example I’m going through Sabriel and Tim Curry is amazing. But I do have a love of physical books. Being able to touch a book, feel the paper and weight is a nice thing. Digital you don’t get that; and it just comes off as satisfying. The only thing I like ebooks for is for whisper synch with audiobooks on Kindle.

Im breaking the rules and picking multiple anyway. I work long 11 hour shifts so listening to audiobooks helps to pass the time and allows me to read more books. When im at home however i prefer physical books. Paperback definitely feels better to read but a good hardcover is so aesthetically pleasing on the shelf
I always love to have my physical book and read along with the audiobook.
i want a Audiobook tracker / combined E-book reader to help you track your progress between the two formats. cause i like them both. like put a bookmark in your e book reader and then continue on the audiobook and vise versa.
When I was younger I loved curling up with a book, paperback or hardback, didn't matter what kind. I kind of stopped reading as much over the last 10-15 years, and just last year I started listening to audiobooks and have fallen in love again. I've been able to read so many more books because of audiobooks! My husband also reads aloud to me, which is also wonderful!
Hot tip - use suitcases (preferably ones with wheels) to transport books when moving house.

I go audio books but I don't seem to pay attention to them as well as paperback.
I think like a lot of people here, I swap between all three. Audio books let me keep the stories going while I have to do other mindless things. Ebooks are great for convenience and moving. I love my books, but I hate moving them.

I recently moved after having lived 8 years at one place and the amounts of books - ok my - almost 1/3 of what I was moving were books. So I have just bought my first kindle.
The Microsoft Duo 2 is the perfect phone for reading ebooks. Turning the page on the dual screen is so satisfying

I love paperbacks but im more drawn to ebooks and a kindle because it motivates me to read more, i can read at night without having a book light and kindle unlimited and the book prices are so good i cant say no.
Audiobooks, as it's a source of entertainment that doesn't require one's eyes. This allows one to read AND multitask at the same time! I'm able to go through 70+ larger books a year this way. Also saves from needing storage space for 70+ large books 😅.
I publish in ebook and print. I'm dabbling in audio, but it's very EXPENSIVE for self-published authors.
Hard-cover physical books are the best, but I reacently learned that getting high and listening to an audiobook is a great experience.
I choose all! But I have to pick audio bc of my vision or lack there of. As a writer I would like physical.
If you can, buy a separate device. Get a kindle or something. Getting off a device that I could be easily distracted on made a big difference. I prefer physical books but ebooks are so great for travel or cheaply trying something new.
I mainly listen to audiobooks. The reasons are the following:
1) I work all day at the computer and I don't see very well. I need to rest my eyes.
2) I can listen while in the shower/bath, while washing dishes, while walking to the shop. Multi-tasking!
3) I love paperback but yeah, weight and space and dust are a thing to consider. I love finding 2nd hand books and buying those. Can't stay away.
4) Some voice actors are just amazing. I love mike and kate for wheel of time and stormlight and the guy who did name of the wind. If the voice actor is good, I will love the book even more.
5) I have audible subscription and £7 for a credit is quite cheap compared to a price of an audiobook that is usually far more than that.

I love all three of them. I will say that when I am not able to read sometimes due to my mental health I will listen to audiobooks until I'm able to get back into that mindset where I'm able to focus and enjoy reading a physical book or ebook again.
Ok so I was so apprehensive about getting a kindle. It felt so weird and I really loved physical. Now I am loving e-books. Like I can read anytime and anywhere and in any condition or position with my kindle while with a physical book I need the lighting and the conditions to be right as if I have to prepare for a ritual before even starting to read. Also the kindle dictionary and x-ray functions spoil me so much that when I read a physical one lately I tried highlighting a word by tapping the paper in order to get its definition.
the dictionary function definitely seems like it would be a huge help! I've never actually tried using that. But I think I want to get a dedicated Kindle or something instead of just using my phone for ebooks
Great video :) Personally my favorite way to consume books is audiobook & physical at the same time. Helps me stay focused and enriches the experience by adding extra depth. Though I also enjoy audiobooks and physical books by themselves. Ebooks are also nice but I prefer collecting physical books, including special editions. I also prefer hardback books over paperback but I’ll read both. For collecting, I prefer hardback.
My apartment won’t fit physical books so it’s ebooks for me. This makes me sad
At least ebooks are a good option, as you can have a full digital library!
I like to read at the same time as listening to an audiobook at 1.7x speed. I find that it pushes me through it, stops me getting stuck on a line, but also the physical page stops me from completely forgetting my place. It would be expensive, but you just have to be a master of abusing Amazon free trials

As someone who started reading paperbacks then switched to ebooks quite fast my opinion on them are: 1) its lighter. 2) its smaller. 3) the book is the same.
Good enough for me to switch.
Book being book is the important part for me. (I dont like auidobooks, I get distracted from those)
So, first I'll tell why, then my vote :P
1. Hardback are the best to have in your library.
2. Paperback are the most easy to read and cheaper than hardback. Let's be honest, the hardback are a kind of complicated to read because of the cover :/
3. ebook (in a kindle or similar, not your smartphone) nowadays let you take a lot of books without the space problem. As you mention, movin in... My own experience these couple of months ahaha
But for me, considering all, Paperback is the best.
PS: I don't mention audiobook, I simple don't like it.
I love the convience of eBooks. Don't have to carry a big book around with me (I prefer hardback to paperback) and don't have to worry about lighting where I want to read. Still have a special place in my heart tho for a good hardback physical copy to add to my collection
