I'm so glad you went with the LP Smartside! Looks so nice!
Hey guys! We've been thinking about you lately. You're the ones who really inspired us to go with LP SmartSide! Did you ever paint your siding? How is the project coming along?
@@diyfferent We still haven't painted it, but the siding looks just as new now as it did the day we installed it! Hopefully this fall we'll finally get it all done 100%. But my husband is possibly going to be having back surgery soon, so the house may just have to wait a bit longer. :)
Oh I hope he is doing okay. We wish you all the best. You guys have done a great job on the house and I can imagine how tough it's been! You had some big walls to do. It will get done :) Thanks for stopping by.
We've been considering this material for our farmhouses covered porch. Great work. Found your channel the other day. Thanks for the video. Just curious where you live? Thanks
@@HallnoutMhall Thank you and we're happy that you found us! We are in Michigan.
Apart from the foundation and some framing, you and Ashley basically built an entire house. You are an amazing couple, and are an inspiration to your viewers. I can't wait until you start on the other parts of your property!
I enjoy Belle's bug breaks.
I would happily buy any house that you two had remodeled, because I know it would be done right and to perfection. WOW, what a team! And here in Texas, we always use plastic weedcloth under mulch because it's true, it keeps it in place and sure pays for itself in the end.
The siding is looking great! Belle to the rescue with the bee was priceless! Loved it!
Looks awesome! I bet your property value has more than quadrupled, with the land you have, I can see why you bought this place, you guys have made that place a home again. đ
Love how Bell is as fearless as her momma. Oh, nice scream Doug. LOL Looking great guys.
Belle to the rescue getting the beeđ
The two of you are a huge credit to resourcefulness, family togetherness, and exemplify the work ethic sorely lacking in large parts of our society. I applaud you!!
Hi Doug & Ashley,I am so excited to see your siding being put on! Yeah! You have outdone yourselves!Your home is beautiful đđ
Thanks so much!
I think its so neat the whole family helps.
Looks great guys!
The way it should be đđ»
I do too.
It is looking Great.... Again it is so refreshing to see such compassion even for a Bee that is so sweet thank you for being you.
Belle saving his Dad from the bee haha! Sooo cute!
*her dad
I love how encouraging your are with Belle's interests - especially in regards to nature. I can see her as an environmental scientist in the future!
Tell Bell she looked so adorable in her hat and outfit! She seems like such a sweetie! Love the siding! Blessings
Belle to the rescue. Your family has all kinds of talent. It is looking so good.
I laughed so much at Doug squealing at the bee...soooo funny đ
Your attention to detail is what impresses me so much. I see some jobs on videos and itâs hurry, hurry to see how quick itâs all done. I always wonder about the quality. Yâall are so patient and take your time with everything. We see you solidly rebuilding your house. I hope when youâre though you really get to rest and enjoy your home. It looks beautiful. Thanks for giving us something interesting to watch.
Bell! Hero of the day! Great job keeping dad safe! Such a beautiful blessing you are!
(Dad: "I'm not getting up there! There's a đ!
Bell: "Hold my beer! Ain't no bumblekin gonna mess with my dad!...đđ)
" Hold my fuzzy worm"....hahahahaha
Belle is becoming quite the helper. I think she enjoys helping with the house projects.
Belle also makes a great savior from the bees. Good thing she's there for you, right Doug? đ
Great progress so far everyone. Great team effort!! đđâ
Ashleyâs assistance is very impressive. Looking good!!!
Belle is a most excellent helper when she's taking a break from being a jr entomologist .
I don't usually say anything but I'm here. I love watching you both work. Great job!
Belle has become a great worker, just like her mom and dad. Good job, Belle!
I am retirement age at 65 and have always renovated the homes we live in. Nothing has changed as We are improving the house We have now. I do not watch any TV anymore but CZcams is normal now. You Folks are My favorite Internet Family!
Wow, thanks! Yea, we watch a lot of CZcams, we haven't watched 'tv' in a very long time!
They are favorite too. Such good souls.
Your home already looks just like a brand new home. Everything that your family does looks perfect!! You did some of the best chalking I have ever seen and made it look easy !!!
He made It look so easy! I am so in awe of this family's talent.
I gotta say, you're good with your caulk lol. If I were you guys I'd use Gravel around the paremtor of the house rather then mulch because Mulch will attract alot of critters/bug close to the house amd also it hold mouster and the blocks may wick up moister. Over all I love your videos.
Vlogger I was thinking the same thing. Mulch will splash also, hold moisture, attracts all kinds of bugs. I switched to 610 rock this year and love it. Research before opening the mulch
Looking good. Pea gravel would be good to place around the perimeter of the house, and since you don't have gutters, you could put in some corrugated perforated pipe under the gravel to carry the water away from the house.
You two are a class act! đ It is so exciting to see the house near completion đđ The finish is impressive
And Belle saves the day! đ. Siding is beautiful!
Save all the plastic that the siding is wrapped with. You can use it under the mulch for around the house. Those caterpillars are poisonous. I didn't know that and learned the hard way. They aren't deadly but wow!! When it pokes you with the black "stinger" thing. Yowza!! Rain when you are trying to get an outside job finished is the worse! We need rain so badly. If I attempt to paint my garage door, I know it will rain. Everything looks fantastic!
Great idea for repurposing the plastic â»ïž
Itâs coming out perfect and you have the cutest helpers.
Lovely Belle the Queen Bee Catcher! The house is looking awesome guys!!
In my humble opinion, gutters are a must to protect your foundation and siding. Siding looks great!
Plus opportunity for rainwater catchment
Wonderful job. I was tickled to see Bell helping. She has gotten so much taller then when I first joined the channel.
Bell is amazing! The house looks great!
Your attention to detail is everything Doug! No one would ever be able to tell that a professional contractor didnât do your renovations! Iâve said it before but I have to say it again,â you are a very talented young manâ!đ
Thanks!
I so love your patients, perseverance, your talent. You guys truly inspire me
Great job itâs looking gorgeous!
First I have say that caulking job at the end was like artwork, I so enjoyed watching you do that to perfection. I've caulked quite a bit in my time, and have never had it come out so flawlessly. Also, those ninja ladder skills you sowed when you dropped the nail gun was nothing short of remarkable. This video was a joy to watch, you did an incredible job with finess! Bravo you two on a job well done!
Belle to the rescue! Always ready to help save her Dad from those pesky bees!
The house is looking great you two!
I'm a little surprised to hear that you don't want to put up gutters. I feel it'll solve most, if not all, of the splash back problems entirely.
As others have stated before me, mulch won't provide the kind of protection you're looking for, as it will break down into the soil over time and need replacing. Gravel/rocks with a fabric underlayment would provide a better, more cost-effective solution over the long run.
I couldn't be happier for you guys. I watched you when you were in the white & red mobile home till now. Such hard workers doing all the hard work to accomplish your dreams. God bless you four!
Looks fantastic, really hard to believe this is a mobile home...Belle is amazing, def has signs of being a vet or suchlike :)
Bell saving daddy from that mean old bee was priceless đ
And such an inventive way to do it, too!
I knew when we heard buzzing from the rafters in a previous video those bees were going to be a problem!
Great example of how families work together! Refreshing to see!đđ
Belle! The Bug Whisperer! LOL!
Siding....hurrah!.....but....I know when this is done you have a to do list already waiting for you to continue on.....God bless yâall and stay safe and healthy M
This took me an hour to watch because I had to stop and wash and scrub my floor, then I would break and watch a little....thank you for the upload! You inspire me to do more! Great work family! đđŒâ€ïž
I love Belleâs curiosity.
Looks so good. I can imagine people giving directions using your house as a guide - pass the beautiful white house with the blue door!
I'm surprised you aren't doing gutters as a rain catchment to water garden, flowers, animals.. I use big barrels and love it. Looks great guys!
Alternative title: Belle saves Daddy from killer bee! đ„°
I wood use weed mat and then river rock, no weeds come up and looks clean. You guys are doing an astonishing job.
"Just get up there and ignore it!"
"How do you ignore a bee in your face?"
đđđ
Belle to the rescue !
Jef Tex - We have to admire Belle's 'gumption'. She is indeed a trooper. I would not be able to handle a bee in my face. As a child I was occasionally stung by what I called Flying Firecrackers - the sting was hot, uncomfortable and annoying albeit short-lived. When in my early 20s several wasps flew into my long hair. They must have felt trapped, they stung my neck. I dropped like a rock. A former EMT was mowing my lawn, he saw me collapse. He later said he may have disturbed their nest. Apparently the amount of venom hitting my system at the same time caused a severe reaction. As a result I now carry an EpiPen. (I also keep wasp spray in several places throughout my home. Great self-protection and no permit required. I have also utilized it for Flying Firecrackers.)
Think about stones around the house .Mulch can be very messy close to the house. Just a suggestion.
My sister did stones but I couldn't afford it so mulch it was.
Had to delete my last comment as I got the wrong state!..Guess being in the UK its easy to get wrong, thanks for who ever put me right!..loving the white house, your doing a fantastic job , was so happy when I saw your notification, would think it was my home the way I get excited to see it haha, well done guys looking fantastic, was expecting to see the little man up the ladder with the nail gun..đđ won't be long im sure ! Happy days folks đ
Miss Belle, you are fearless â€. I love the texture on the siding, I just can't believe how thin it is. Our home in NZ has 60 year old siding, very thick and wide, yes it is a pain to repaint. Looking polished as ever guys.
OMG just how great this is looking. I remember when the demo started and how sorry I felt for you guys but now look how far you've come. You guys are tenacious.
Your attention to detail is outstanding. Everything is finished to such a high standard.
In Australia we donât get the choice on using rain gutters on our houses, itâs essential. We have so many droughts that every house has itâs own rain water tank so the rain water that runs off the roof is caught and saved. Itâs used for gardening unless you live in a rural area then itâs used for everything. I spent many years living out of town with rain water being all we had and I much prefer it. We had concrete holding tanks that kept the water cooler and several filters on the system so the water tasted wonderful. The house looks awesome. Great job on getting the siding up. Itâs good to see Belle helping out. Sheâs growing up so much.
You guys rock! Ashley I am in awe of you going so far up that ladder to get that siding up top! I could not have done that even in my younger years. Awesome job as usual!â€ïžđđđ»
Bell the Bee Whispered saves the Day !!!!!!Grate job Bell!!!!!!
I wanna see yâall build a porch and deck.
The house is looking fantastic! Belleâs hair is beautiful.
A family affair, you can all say that you built this house đĄđȘđđđ
I prefer rock or pebbles to mulch. It never has to be replaced. Besides it makes a fire barrier. Love rock flower beds. Yay!! Progress!!
It looks really good! I'm surprised you don't want gutters though, since you can collect lots of rain watter with them that can be used for the garden and where I live, we even have like an underground reservoaire with a sand filter where the rain water is stored and used for the washing machine (since it's not as hard as the water from the main pipe) and for toilet flushing etc. We always loved having a second water source, since it's so easy to get it. :)
you're really cute.
THAT looks spectacular!! love the white siding..Bella is doing a great job already helping you both...
I have help 'build' but I am no good on a ladder .... or any heights... LOL
Oh I forgot to mention that!!! Yes Belle is such a huge help and works well with her mom and dad, they are doing a great job in raising their children and Maverick, his speech is so good and so precise!!!!
I am really impressed with your daughter...her interest and willingness to protect and learn about living beings....capturing and relocating the bee, investigating the fluffy caterpillar, and her playing with a baby garter snake (previous video). You are definitely raising inquisitive and caring children. Just what the world needs more of, thank you.
Doug and Ashley, great job to both of you, & Belle (hope I spelled correctly), too!!! Very proud of Ashley being so high on the ladder! Take care.
About the dirt splashes at the house: Here in Europe we have small gravel around the house because of that. It's very common. Nearly every house has it. It's very neat. Landscape fabric under the gravel and it's done. I think, mulch doesn't work so good.
In my part of usa ( north of houston texas) gravel gets thrown around by tornados and hurricanes, so we tend to avoid that
@@jeepsanddragons OK, we don't have that here đ
Another thing mulch can do is be a haven for termites.
We have so many oak trees around our house that the stones would get filled with leaf litter and eventually grow weeds so we're just avoiding that :) Other people have said they used wood mulch to prevent splash-up and it worked well for them.
We don't have to worry about termites here in the frigid north.
Enjoyed the video the siding looks amazing and when Doug started caulking and the background music was playing omg it was so relaxingđ„±đ„±đ„±canât wait for the next video!!!!
Thanks!
Your daughter is destined to become a vet or a biologist! So natural with even the smallest critter! :) Even saves her father from a angry bee! :) House looks amazing and you are such a great team!
Doug dont even feel bad with that bee đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł I would have acted thr same way...thank goodness for Belle!!! She just came in with such a calming demeanor and swoop no more bee.
From my experience mulch has splash up too. I found gravel the best
We did consider different options, but this was the best option for us :)
I just want to say that I watch every video even things I wouldnât if it was another channel so youâre doing something right keep it up.
Thank you, that means a lot to us. We'll keep doing our best :)
I have to agree, I do also. âșïž
There is no feeling like seeing your project finally come into focus as a finished project.
I think its about time that Bell has her own ear protectors
I agree with you.
Or can get foam ear plugs with case at Dollar Tree and get package in bulk at Walmart.
If you are going to have a front/back deck, I would HIGHLY recommend gutters at least over those areas. You can do decorative rain chains on either side so you don't need to mess with downspouts, but I really think you will appreciate them if you put them up!
We plan on installing awnings over our doorways :)
Hairy catepillars are poisonous and shouldn't be touched with bare hands. Google, 'hairy catepillars poisinous'. Otherwise carry on. Love your videos and the work you do. You guys are amazing!
Oh I thought that too when I saw her but I wasnât sure if it was true... but I was taught that as kid !
Edit : well, I got curious and did some research. The internet says itâs an American Dagger caterpillar (Acronicta americana), that can indeed cause severe irritation and hives !
The textured look of the âwoodâ is very appealing.
Looks great đđŒ the jig and the nail gun attachment. Genius
I notice you had a great third pair of hands as you worked! It's looking great, y'all!!
Looking like a new house
Ron Bernard - I view it as better than new. They know the updates were actually correctly completed because they accomplished it themselves. Few people I have ever hired took nearly as much pride in their work as this family.
Wow what a diyfference, looks great!
I had to laugh out loud around the 15:00 mark. The foot action to recover the nailgun was quick thinking. One must be resourceful when one is on a ladder! Your home is looking awesome. It is comforting to know families such as yours still exist. Such pride and teamwork is awe-inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Awesome and then some! I love the looks of the siding and that is is lap rather than the vertical T-111. It is absolutely wonderful. The ease of it even tho lengthy in time is amazing. I just am blown away with how it is turning around..........the whole project and everything you have done is really mind blowing. It proves for sure that we as people can do anything we set out minds to. Even a apprentice can learn to do things and carry thru what they know starting small and getting to the point that you guys have come. I totally consider you mentors and educators as to do things that don't have to be the way everything else is done, but done DIYfferently and still what a gorgeous project and home. You are both just amazing! Absolutely no words to explain it all..............I just love all you have done and will use some of your wise ideas in the future!
God bless
Keep on keeping on.......................WOW
Some people suggest a 2-3' perimeter around the house with plastic covered by rock (pea gravel, River or white rocks). Not only would that take care of the splash on the side of the house, but it keep bugs away and gives you a clear path for maintenance and ladders.
I would recommend rain gutters. You definitely want the water away from your foundation, especially if you build a grade going away from the house. Someone else mentioned a French drain, also not a bad idea depending on the slope around your house.
Hi fam!
The siding looks beautiful!
Mulch on the ground and no gutters.... I can't really imagine how that can work and be safe enough, but I'm sure you can explain it. Maybe in one of the next videos?!
Whoever comes by might say 'nice new house you have here' and when you tell it's a mobile home from 1970: 'NO WAY!!' and staring with eyes wide open in disbelief.
Like Lucas from the 1860 stonehouse is describing how everyone who comes over is turning the head with the jaw dropping to the floor. đ
I wonder if your families will meet some day in person. đ
Great job, once again! The cement paint doesnât look blue anymore with the siding! It looks real grey! Very nice! I think gradient sizes of river rock would look really nice up against the foundation to avoid that dirt splash. IMHO... đ You should all be proud of yourselves! Even little Mavey is a big helper! Love your family!
Yea, we were looking at the foundation today and the blue hue is gone, how cool :D Thanks!
Give river rocks a thought up against your house, some mulch will spray dirt too. Put the rocks up against the house and come out about 10 inches then use your mulch as the start of a flower bed.
We did river rocks around our house. Best decision ever....
And Bell to the rescue :)
i HAVE ENJOY SO MUCH THE PROGRESS IN YOUR HOME. SEEING BELLE HELPING IS WONDERFUL. SHE IS SO GROWN UP AND SMART I KNOW YOU ARE VERY PROUD OF HER. THANK YOU FOR SHARING AND GAD BLESS.
I LOVE that Belle saved you from that menacing bee! Love the siding!
You have the sweetest helpers. Looking great. GM đ đđ đđșđ» đ·
Your home is looking really sharp! I love it!đ
That pause when you dropped the nail gun and then retrieved it by the cord with your foot. đ
That is looking so good guys! You would be hard pressed to even tell it used to be a double wide trailer.
14:25 Here comes the girl to save the day and the bee, hahaha
Another professional job. Nice place. I could make that my forever home.
I love how your whole family chips in to help. Bell going to be a very handy Woman someday.
