    If 1 cheat meal is what it takes to go through with the rest, then you should do, it's better to be able to stay on the lifestyle change by having a cheat meal than fail and go back. Great job Barnacules!

    Found your channel d/t the depression video from last week. I've struggled with the same battle for more than a decade now. I lost my 18 year old cat today that use to make me feel better during my darkest days in the past when I was severely depressed and didn't want to live on this earth anymore. Losing him, as odd as it may sound, was the worst thing that's happened to me in a long time. All I could think about is how I just don't want to feel this pain anymore.
    Your videos are inspiring. I'm on the same grind as you and I'm determined to continue to grow stronger. Every day that passes by is another W in my column.
    Thanks for making these videos, man. They're an inspiration to people going through similar struggles.

      Life has a lot of down moments. A lot of things that can instigate depression. But... I think it's up to us to focus on the things that make it worth while.
      The relationships we build with people (and sometimes our friends in the animal kingdom) are the things we can cherish. People, friends, family... these are things that are unique to our human experience.

      @Tim110899 Pƙed 9 lety +2

      I'm no expert either but i think when you excercise the muscles get torn a little. Afterwards the body regenerates and fills in the gaps with more muscle mass. I think thats how it works

      dalton Bowlan If you want to research that a little (just for fun) look up muscle hyperplasia (which is basically the creation of muscle fibers) and hypertrophy (which is basically muscle fiber growth). Those are both lay descriptions and I'm sure I'm missing a lot but it could be an interesting read if you're into that sort of thing. P.S. Also not an expert, just dredging up some vague memories from years ago.

    • @birdman4birdlegs
      @birdman4birdlegs Pƙed 9 lety

      dalton Bowlan a lot of it has to do with getting a stimulus that you're body isn't used to. When you're break down the muscle fibers, they are going to repair themselves and get stronger with proper nutrition and rest. But what you guys are talking is delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) which is very common when you do something you're not used to. If you keep training, you're going to get less soreness because you're body adapts.. but if you introduce more volume in your training or add new variables, it means you'll probably experience the soreness again

    Keep it going Jerry! I'm actually on YOUR diet! I'm not doing it to lose weight but I'm doing it because it's healthy and I enjoy it. It helped my energy get boosted and my depression is not nearly as bad. Thanks for that Jerry :) . I haven't had a cheat meal yet, but keep it at a meal. A meal can easily turn into a cheat day, so be careful. Also, take out is good for a cheat meal but fast food isn't. Fast food is pretty much straight up poison, so stay off of that. I'm not going to the gym or anything but keep it up! I'm saying this as a coffee addict. I had to make the hard decision to cut the caffeine myself due to sleep problems it was causing for me. My insomnia was getting seriously out of control and affecting my work. And I was only having about 16oz of medium dark coffee per day. I've been off my morning coffee now for close to a year and my insomnia has all but gone away, I feel more energetic, and my mood is more stable.
    Reasons to give up caffeine:
    1) while caffeine is generally considered a stimulant, it's also a neural inhibitor. So while it makes your body alert, it makes your mind slow and jittery
    2) caffeine has a half life in the body of about 6 hrs, which means if you're having more than just a morning cup, it's affecting your sleep. In my case, the morning cup was still affecting my sleep :(
    3) Once you're over the withdrawal, which admittedly will be REALLY bad for 1-2 weeks, you actually feel more energetic and ready to face the day without caffeine than you do with it. Your focus will be better, and you won't be dragging ass out of bed in the morning before that first cup.
    I'll say it again though, caffeine withdrawal is a BITCH. Headaches, moodiness, anemic feeling... and it lasts for a couple weeks. But once you're over it, you feel SO much better.

    Whatever you do, DO NOT go back to the doctor to get meds. Just stick to your plan and take it slow, YOU CAN DO IT! If there's one thing I've learned it's stick to the plan and follow it through. Great things WILL happen.

    Barnacules, you inspired me to better myself, too. I was feeling depressed and unhappy with myself when I saw your first video about your desire to change your life. I'm already down 15 pounds in less than 3 weeks! The biggest thing was cutting out soda. I've been drinking this really good green tea from the chinese market and pelegrino sparkling water. I also been saying no to junk food and eating a lot of brown rice and seafood. Keep it up, man!

    Jerry, you and ***** were HUGE motivation for me. I started running and I feel much much better since then. Before that I just sat home and did nothing. But when I saw you guys I was just "I can do that too" and here I am running every day 3-4km and exercising a bit in the evening. Thank YOU!
    And I have a little advice to you. I'm that kind of person that when gets bored starts to eat. Not a big things just small things like sweets or biscuits. And that's just BAD especially when I eat a lot of them through the day. So I started buying Rice Cakes(if you know what it is) and it's great! I can eat how many I want and still it's like I haven't eaten at all but it fulfills that "I must eat something" feeling if you know what I mean :D. They don't taste that good but if you salt them a little they are pretty decent :). You should try them out if you don't have anything similar
