    I love the fact that they also made an expansion about earlier "medieval" Japanese history. The 16th and 19th century stuff is welcome, of course, but it's also a lot more expected and gets more coverage than other periods. Pity this is the only recent Total War game that seems to be trying to go for genuine quality and innovation, á la M2TW ten years ago.

      You're right. There were Taira, Minamoto and their allies on both sides. Many clans defected depending on how the fighting was going. The Oshu Fujiwara didn't even take much part in the battles. They mostly stayed out of everyone's business until Yoritomo showed up to hunt his brother down.

      Honest Dix Heian is more like the Han Dynasty than 3 Kingdoms. Also, the three powers in 3 Kingdoms are new powers, not successors of powerful families. The Fujiwara didn’t have a large role in the war either, they merely shelter Yoshitsune. Also, the geography of the clans are not as important as it is in 3 Kingdoms.

    Why is Fujiwara the wolf and Taira the crane? It makes more sense that Fujiwara is the more elegant, imperial crane while the violent, cunning wolf is Taira. Taira is in direct opposition to the Minamoto like how the dog is opposed to the cat. Is there some cultural reason for these animals or is it just the Devs arbitrarily assigning cool animals to clans.

    • @jadenk1409
      @jadenk1409 Před 7 měsíci +10

      Super late comment and I don’t know if the devs were intentional about this.
      But crane in sinosphere usually symbolizes longevity and authority (because they were believed to have lived a hundred or thousand years with wisdom and all that) which the current defacto rulers Taira would want to represent themselves as.
      While wolves in shinto tradition, especially earlier on, were seen as messenger/disguised form of spirits and other godlike entities. And also has some old forest spirit connotation in them. Which i guess suits the old power fujiwara.
      I hope that helped
