Just my personal opinion but the cavalry in shogun 2 is bit hard for me to control, often buggy. Not all game are perfect of course but it made me rely less on calvary and instead more of a Pike and Shot kinda guy myself

[INSERT CLAN NAME] lands have always provided to our people
Wow there was so many envy in Japan those days qwp
This game is just so beautiful. Despite having 1.000+ Hours in Warhammer, this was my favorite. It was my first TW and I absolutely loved it. A remarkable Hommage to the history and culture of japan. Also the TW with the most beautiful Graphics that still roasts my Pc. Just amazing - with speeches for every battle and little Cinematics for your agents actions. Also fantastic sea battles. Just incredible.
And the opening cinematic! Gorgeous!
If the lands always provided, why must the envy other lands that provide?
Because there must be a strong Shogun!
Because if your Daimyo wish to become Shogun. He must control all of Japan
That's it, it's not envy, but power, and other regions may provide resources that yours does not provide, such as horses, iron or strong wood...

The Oda intro felt the most intense. Close second is the Takeda clan.
In my head, the Spear is the best weapon to arm your people with. Cavalry and swords are great - but require much MUCH more training. The spear? Everyone can get the gist in less than a day. Stand in a formation and keep the sharp bit forward. Charging cavalry? Form up tight and don't break. Skilled swordsmen? Keep the point forward and push them back - you've got reach.
Only thing more rangy than spears are missiles like arrows and siegecraftery.
Yea. spear is the best weapon of the period. If you watch HEMA fights, many newbie spear fighters defeat multiple experienced swordsman who practiced 2-3 years who fight him at the same time. arm a legion with spears and here we go.
The main samurai weapons were spear and bow , contrary to popular belief who think katana was the main.

From what I heard, Yoritomo Minamoto was actually the very first Samurai before the arrival of any of the clans mentioned here and I'm certain one of them were descended directly from the Minamoto.
I think the story goes much deeper. From what i heard, Sakanoue no Tamuramaro was first samurai. Skilled general and horse rider who put down many rebellions for the Emperor and for that he was proclaimed first known shogun.
@@Minamoto_1 Ah, so this warrior was the first samurai, I see now. Too bad they didn't include him in either Shogun: Total War games, he should have received the accolades that are due to him and be honored with an in-game representation. Thanks for sharing this little-known aspect of Japanese history with me.
@@Minamoto_1 I must add that although Tamuramaro was possibly the greatest samurai who helped bring the warrior caste to greatness, it just seems that as the years progressed and the clans became extremely powerful, his name wasn't as revered as that of the Minamoto and he faded into obscurity.

What no Hattori?
Copy and paste like the unit models sadly.
@Alvi Syahri 'Historically' no culture had the unit variety we see in the total war games. But there is a huge armor and weapons variety in medieval Japan at that time and you could have easily created much more units with a fraction of the creative license CA used in the other games.
It's just superficially researched and modelled and even the dozens of DLC units which tap into that territory just rehash existing 3D models and put a slightly different skin on it.
@@Scipionyxsam I’m not gonna lie, I don’t see the problem with it. There were a lot of variation in Japanese armor and weapons. But in practice, only a few become prevalent for generic soldiers, so it makes sense there’s a lot of overlapping gear and such.
@@kaijuslayer3334 Source needed. We don't know these things for sure, it's conjecture. It's pretty save to say, that the armour was nowhere near this standardized in reality. In concept, the game even features very rare armor as available units. For example in form of the 'bulletproof' samurai'. This goes back to Japanese copying European cuirass designs and smithing techniques. Very interesting visually, yet in the game it is visually represented by a barely reskinned spearman without any changes.
Disregarding that, reiterarting my point, CA was never particularly hellbound on historical accuracy in any game to say the least. This game has a whole unit of invisible battlefield ninjas with smoke bombs and straight swords straight outta James Bond ffs. Completely mythical 'hero units' with copy pasted golden armor and crazy stats. Not to mention anachronistic weapons like the naginata portrayed as widespread. Nah man, the copy paste unit models were a result of lazyness/time constraints and engine limitations. Don't try to sell it as striving for historical accuracy, that's just not honest.
@@Scipionyxsam To be fair about the ninjas, they’re honestly quite toned down compared to how many times they’re simplified in popular media, at least for Kisho Ninja. They still retain armor, their swords are katanas, and their ability to become “invisible” is a idea shared by every unit when it comes to hiding them well. It’s just they do it the best. Also the naginata/anachronistic weapon point is a bit odd since all it does is cut down on potential army setups and player choice. Removal of all those weapons would lead to more realistic armies but impact the enjoyability and diversity of gameplay. Plus, you still have the option to run a army of just historical armies of yari wielding samurai and conscripts if you want. I think Creative Assembly did a good balance with Shogun 2 in terms of hitting enough realism to not feel nonsensical, but still has enough creative liberty that is used to make the game more diverse and enjoyable for those who want it. But again, you can still run a entirely realistic army if you want. That’s the glory of them giving players a choice.
@@kaijuslayer3334 Everything about the portrayal of the ninjas and their capabilities is incredibly ahistorical and solely based on hollywood movies and 19th century kabuki theatre. The whole idea of a black 'ninja uniform' in a battlefield setting is ridiculous and has zero basis in historical sources. And so is the ability to hide in plain sight with no terrain a few metres apart from your enemy.
Mind you, I'm not the one arguing for the reduction of unit and visual variety in favor of historical accuracy. That was your explanation and preference. You said you dig leaving out tons of armor and weapon designs, since it is more historical accurate to not represent them. But we are converging here, the visual monotony and unit variety monotony can't be explained by historical accuracy, since the game doesn't strive for total historical accuracy at all in many instances and it might not even desirable to do so.
3:14 hi my name is otomo and your siege engines are shit
