    The thumbnail told me what I was watching until I watching this. I didn't know I had one of these starters in my stable. Thank you good night god bless

    It’s simple to retract the drive just hold the gear against a stiff wife wheel on a bench grinder and spin it . Leave drive on arm shaft, when barrel spins fast enough it will snap back. The easiest way to pull the brush is tru the window using a wire with a hook on the end. I have rebuilt hundreds of ford starters. Good job.

    Mister that is a superb job you've done here. The paint job looks top notch. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and know-how.

    Thanks for the well done tutorial. A handy tool to use when reinstalling the pole bars is an exhaust pipe expander. After installing the field coils and bars snug the fasteners, using the exhaust pipe expander press the pole bars tight against the case then torque the fasteners.

    Can I slightly increase the power of a tractor starter??? it turns slowly as soon as the ambient temperature drops even though everything is fine, the rotor, pipes and cables have been changed. also the battery. everyone tells me it's small but it used to run very well... it's a Lucas brand with a 65hp Perkins engine

      Don't know of any way to make one stronger other than a bigger/better battery or a gear reduction starter. Being temperature based I'd look at a stronger battery. A higher cranking amp battery will spin a starter faster.

    what is the color code you used to paint the starter? I like it

      Not sure of the code. It's the ford new holland blue available from new holland dealers. I think it's called empire blue though.

      Kit is SRK401. You can buy it from numerous places online. Just have to Google it and find your favorite retailer.

      A growler would be nice to have but as few as these I do it's not worth having.

    And just slide bendix on and put in pin??

    • @chickenhousemechanic
      @chickenhousemechanic  Před 2 měsíci

      Yep. Should be a collar you have to slide down on bindex to get pin in.

      Im installing a new bendix and cannot compress the collar by hand like you show in the video. my welding clamps are to big to fit in between the starter and the bendix. My carpentry clamps slip off. any ideas on how to compress a new bendix?

    • @chickenhousemechanic
      @chickenhousemechanic  Před 2 měsíci

      @kraylake12 can you put something smaller into the hole on one side and push the collar down and slide pin in from other? Those collars shouldn't be too hard to push down. They're not weak by any means but they shouldn't be so stiff you can't push it down.
