  • Working on a model with winter camouflage has some specific unwritten "rules". Choosing the right colors that can emphasize the cold winter setting of your model is the most important of them.

      - Comrade Ivanov, why does your tank camouflage so yellowish?
      - Sergeant Demidov, it replicates that specific yellow snow you can see everywhere.
      Later that day, german 88s squad:
      - Herr oberfeldwebel, we receiving reports of soviet tank group maneuver... And there's a huge pile of moving piss among them.

    @impguardwarhamer Před 4 lety

    I'm currently testing out a bunch of your techniques on a warhammer valhallan imperial guard tank, so this series couldn't have come at a better time XD
    The techniqes are pretty different at points, since it makes sense for a tank built on a snowy planet would have a factory-white paint job not a temporary white wash, but the rest is useful.
    Particuarly excited to see what you do with mud+snow. Just having snow is boring, so i wanna see what Ideas I can pinch from whatever you come up with xD

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
      @NightShiftScaleModels  Před 4 lety

      That sounds like a really interesting setting!
      TBH this tank won't have any snow on it, I want to go for a really filthy look. Also it's not easy to create good snow on a running gear like this when it's been glued together before painting. Maybe next time.

    • @impguardwarhamer
      @impguardwarhamer Před 4 lety

      @@NightShiftScaleModels ahh thats a shame xD
      Still, I want to go for a much more muddy look on mine (mainly because mud looks cooler than snow), thinking of imagining it driving though a thin layer of snow with mud underneath.
      Would you imagine there would be much dried mud/dust in a scenario like that? I would think the damp atmosphere and the snow might stop that happening? It's hard to get reference images since its a rather specific setup

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
      @NightShiftScaleModels  Před 4 lety +2

      @@impguardwarhamer I guess our models are gonna have a pretty similar weathering in the end. Dust can be present even in the winter months, but only if the ground is frozen solid without any snow coverage. That's what I've observed during the occasional winter hike. But most of the time, winter soil is dark, damp, sticky and wet.

      Uhhh... you mean the AK Real Colors or the old AK acrylics? Real Colors are lacquers and I thin them with Mr. Color Thinner, which works great with every lacquer paint. If they're the old acrylics, with the same properties as Vallejo paints for example, I used to thin them with Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner. Yes, that stuff works actually totally awesome with AK and Vallejo acrylics.
