The Legend of Zelda Companions: Good to Most Heroic
It's dangerous to go alone, take this! Those were the first words ever uttered to Link in The Legend of Zelda on NES, and he's abided by those words ever since. Throughout the years, this legendary Hylian has accompanied himself with a plethora of different weapons, items, and most notable companions over the course of his adventures. These companions come in all shapes and sizes; some are fairies, some are animals, some are humans, and some are even spirits. Whatever the case, Link's companions all have various different motivations behind why they help the man in the green tunic out, with some having more noble reasons than others. Out of all of Link's "friends" that follow him on his quest, which ones are the most loyal and which ones are more driven by their own self-interest?

Your channel is the only one to have Dark Gaia as the most evil Sonic villain & he's *obviously* not! Why? Because he's mindless! *Mephiles* is the evilest! Look at other lists!
I'd have rated Linebeck higher. He does get character developpment in Phantom Hourglass. He writes Link a letter to let him know he really appreciates all he has been doing for him, but finds it hard to tell Link directly, and before going to the last dungeon, he does wait for him just to tell him good luck. And it's not even a facade, because when Link is knocked out against Bellum, HE TOOK UP HIS SWORD AND KEPT THE MONSTER AT BAY. Here is your greed-driven companion. The point is, he is not a badass as Link, but he grows morals by the end of the game. And the fact he only wished for his boat to be repaired and not any treasure? Maybe he found out a treasure won't make him happy. Case in point, when he passed away, he hid a treasure for his family to use in time of need.
Spirit Tracks' Zelda really was the incarnation that was the best in the series. She asked for Link's help to escort her out, and she started out as such: an escort mission. Then she became able to possess armors to do various things. And in the end, she takes the Bow of Light and can shoot the final boss at your command, and helps you finish them.
ST!Zelda by far had the most autonomy. The only other Zelda who comes close is BotW!Zelda…which BigNin seemingly “corrected” by throwing her down a bottomless pit in the second teaser in response to fan specilation of her being a companion or even playable in some capacity
Tetra and Zelda/Sheik are incredibly badass but…naturally…the game has to defang them the second they’re “Zelda Revealed.” Literally. And in Tetra’s Case it was especially unneccisary-the King locking her in Sunken Hyrule’s Basement literally made her a sitting duck for Ganondorf. You can only enter SunkenHyrule with a triforce piece. Ganondorf has one, Link does not. (Tetra does, but she’s also stranded without a boat.) And the Tower of the Gods is incredibly conspicuous (and y’know, that whole light show when Link raised it definitely would’ve drawn as much attention as A NEW LANDMARK.)
Just…let Zelda have autonomy?!? That too much to ask?? To have her be plot relevant as an active character in the franchise she’s the title character to aside from Spirit Tracks??

The implication that Marin tried to commit suicidé to save you from being trapped on the island feels like she needs some rank here.
The problem with rating Navi is that the Deku Tree sent her to Link to guide him back to the Deku Tree. This is a time-sensitive task. He is at the death's door. If Navi had waited a little longer to guide Link to the Deku Tree, there might not have been an opportunity for them to talk. What do you do when someone is asleep and you need him to do something, you wake him up. Navi was "annoying" because she was on a time-sensitive mission.
Nah. She didn’t have to call Link “stupid” and “lazy” for…waking up at presumably his usual time of day (and very visibly suffering from a nightmare), and she *stays* incredibly obnoxious through the entire journey (and half of her “hEY! LiSTEN!!!” shouting isn’t even relevant to anything. Get too close to the Kokiri Forest Entrance? “hEY! LiSTEN!!”)
And…there was literally another mechanic they could’ve used for hints and advice-Saria’s Song to talk with Saria. (Instead the song is basically useless aside from throwing spaghetti at the wall to get Darunia off his butt about a problem he literally could’ve solved himself.)
Navi is further made Useless aside from really shitty 3D Targeting (and Camera Crap that induces motionsickness in every release) with the introduction of Sheik-Sheik actually gives useful advice, whereas Navi is triggered into “hEY LiSTEN!” by set locations leftover from the Child Era + increasing her “watch out!” during combat (oh yeah. And some enemies now make you NOT use Navi to defeat them…and the Targetting System she was attached to was barely functional, anyway)
What would’ve saved Navi? The communication-prompts used in following games with a chime or glow vs hEY LiSTEN!! But really, giving Navi her own cutscenes and character moments like what Tatl and Ciela got to have
Guess you could say all the errors of Navi got fixed for all future fairies and companions, but her character is still a massive flop as both a character and a companion

Darwin🤓: Isabella [She have a lot to learn about Monte macabre.]
Pride👸: Maria Teresa [This lady is in love with how selfish and careless she can be.]
Envy🤬: Victor [He wants to prove he can do anything he's good at.]
Greed🤑: Tez [He performs a magic show just to steal people’s money.]
Lust:💋: Charlene [This explains her obsessive crush on Victor]
Skills🔮: Valentino [Because he’s a little less immature than Victor, he isn’t afraid to take responsibility.]
Wrath😈: Don Jalapeño [When Victor & Valentino cause trouble, he tends to get furious.]
Sloth🦥: Sal [He thinks really slow, like really slow.]
That is definitely one of the biggest qualities of this timeline.

In my opinion, Linebeck should be higher on the list.
Although he is fueled by greed, it's shown he really does care about Link, not only does he write you a letter, he also waits for you at the final dungeon just to say bye.
Then, in the final battle, Linebeck seemingly tries protecting Link! He grabs his sword, and stands up against the boss (forgot his name).
Plus, at the end of the game, he asks for his ship back, the way it was. He wanted it the way Link modified it.
I interpreted that as him valuing the memories he had with Link. If he had wished for a lot of money, he could've just bought another ship.
I feel ya but I left linbeck’s ship unchanged & I felt tears of joy seeing linebeck’s ship sail away

Honestly, if we were going by the manga, Linebeck would probably be higher, as his reasons for finding the ghost ship were more personal and he was shown to grow as a character.

You know i'mma give the King of Red Lions more credit as he literally sacrifices his life and kingdom for Link and Tetra. That's a bigger sacrifice than anybody else in the series besides potentially BOTW Zelda. He's very selfless

Your list is alright but i got a few bones. First you forget that Midna attempted to sacrifice herself to take on Ganondorf at the near end of the game so its more self sacrifice. Surprised you missed that one. and One more thing. I'd just remove the Wolf link entirely. Since WolfL is an amiibo its appearance and uses is not part of the main game and to get WolfL you'd need to purchase basically a "Key" in the real world outside the game to get it to work which defeats the purpose of a companion.
On thing a lot of people forget about Fi is that she safed Links life in BotW. After thousands and thousands of years not able to break free from her slumber she helps Link out by telling zelda where to go. Such a loyal friend
Moosh has long been my #1 want for BotW2. Even if it's just a species that pals around with the other first animals and you can ride them like bears with a short glide.
Fi absolutely should be number one on this list. Every time you see the master sword, she’s there. She literally sacrifices her sentience to be in the sword.
She also saves the hero of the wilds TWICE by communicating with Zelda
Great List! I’ve never really played any Zelda games, but I’ve come to really love the series through Smash Bros, watching lets plays, and other media.
I like Toon Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003), The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (2007) and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (2009). Toon Link lives in Outset Island with his sister Aryll and his mother Link's Grandma. Toon Link loves Ciela.
It doesn’t matter to me how selfish Linebeck is, I just can’t hate him. He definitely is my favourite companion.

Midna gets the top spot for me because she actually >dies in combat< for Link, Zelda, and all of Hyrule. Sure she gets revived after the end, but that doesn't take away from her initial heroic sacrifice. She dies for YOU, showing both her character growth and (especially if you read the manga) love for Link.

Leaf and Neri are saved in the 2 first dungeons (excluding the Temple of the Ocean King) and are saved very early in the game.
I don't think it would change their ranking, but I wanted to correct this mistake.
Midna’s whole deception was an act though.
Alright yes we finally got the list.
Midna should definitely be higher on the list because her attitude completely changes, and she attempts to sacrifice herself to reveal the location of the mirror of twilight. That is until Zelda sacrifices herself so that midnight can survive in both light and dark to accompany link on his journey and her true motives are to help her people which does raise some red flags,( as in the beginning of the game she only cares for herself and her people and forces link to follow her agenda.) but as her character changes into a more caring person she devotes herself to helping both Link and Zelda defeat Ganon and helping her own people, even going as far as to fight Gannon and head on by herself and accompanying link to defeat Beast Ganon. At the end of the game Zelda even wants her to stay in the world of light although midna is so stubborn that she refuses and returns to her own world after saying," link... See you later." this pause before she says see you later could mean that she was thinking of saying something more sentimental, as in,"link, thank you." or even saying that she has fallen in love with link.
Funny how it's the three Major Companions of the Adult/Toon Timeline that are the top three!

I would've rated Midna much higher. She went from desperate and selfish, to holding Ganon off so Link and Zelda could escape, resulting in her (fakeout) death.
Midna may not be the most pure sidekick in the Legend of Zelda series, but she still is best girl.
While Proxi does indeed have confidence in Link, it's proven to be almost Overconfidence, giving him an inflated ego shortly after claiming the Master Sword, only for Cia to come along and pop it by creating Dark Link out of his arrogant pride, nearly getting him killed if it wasn't for the interception of allies. Also, she serves as the voice for Young Link as well, which is especially weird if they're on separate sides.
I like Young Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (2000). Young Link lives in Kokiri Forest with Saria, Mado, Fado and all the Kokiri. Young Link loves Navi and Tael.
Still prefer Tatl over Navi.

i dont think wolf link deserves a high position, maybe not even on this list at all. he's a pay to gain companion, so not an official companion like any other character would be. (which is something i really hate about Botw). while it has the soul of a hero, in the game specifically its just a wolf based on a different game its main character, so the value of the soul is lost to me in that case.
Midna should deserve a better position. sure, she started mean and selfish at the beginning, but she still wants to help the world and link from his curse. not to forget her character changed a lot after being healed by Zelda. and at the end of the game she proves to be a good friend, and not just someone who used Link. not to forget she tried saving zelda when ganandorf was trying to take her body.
also i know this isnt really an important detail, but when looking at characteristics? i'd say she's the best and feels actually important to the story, unlike for example Navi who could easily be replaced by any other fairy
