Square Enix absorbed the rights when they bought Eidos Interactive. (They used to be Crystal Dynamics kinda, it's a long story.) Since they have no plans to revisit Gex, they're running a thing where independent game developers can pitch ideas for a Gex game and if Squenix likes it, they'll let em run with the license.
Tl;dr if you want another Gex game, all you have to do is know how to make a generic platformer and ask Square Enix.

16:32 Simple, SM64DS may have only had 8 directions to move with the D-pad, but at least it was a good game. This is not. Don't compare SM64DS to this game.
Honestly, SM64DS had pretty good controls. SM64 was built so that you could only rotate the camera to be facing in one of eight directions, with a second camera function (Mario-cam) being necessary to make the game function well. So SM64DS only having 8 directions to move kind of keeps it faithful to the original experience, since most of the time you'd be holding one of four directions on the N64 joystick anyway. Not to mention the fact that the N64 joystick has 8 little notches (making a regular octagon, which is an octagon with all of the sides being equal and all of the interior angles being equal) that are supposed to assist with moving in straight lines. So really, SM64DS should basically control just like SM64, if not better since the camera was improved to be able to move steadily instead of sporadically, making moving in 8 directions not so bad since you can have more control over the camera so you can move in whatever direction you need to. Plus the camera buttons are easily usable even while moving, since they're the shoulder buttons on the DS and not a D-pad that requires you to take your hands off the A and B buttons so you can't jump while changing the camera.

I can't express how much I absolutely adored Gex 3 as a kid. Despite never beating it, I'm not sure if there's a game I played more. Looking back, perhaps it wasn't perfect, but it's still got a large place in my heart.
Despite Simple thinking it's bad, I'm still incredibly happy that one of my favorite video creators is playing it!
