  • Hey guys, this is an issue I had last year so I thought I would shed some light on it. Please understand I am not a certified mechanic and I definitely do not claim to be one. I only know what I know because of what I have dealt with myself or researched.

    It’s the oil level sensor combined with the float inside the oil tank. The float inside is magnetized and interacts with the sensor. If the float loses enough of its magnetization, even if the sensor itself works, you will still get the 4 beeps. You can “fool” it while out on the water with an extra sensor on which you put some round magnets and connect to the sensor wiring - it fools the system into thinking the reservoir is filled. The only real fix is to replace the reservoir tank because the float is not serviceable. Just keep the sensor off the old tank and get round magnets on with tie wraps (Home Depot for the magnets) and keep in the boat as an emergency bypass if you get this problem. Just connect the sensor with magnets on it to the wiring and let it hang off to the side under the cowling until you get back and can replace the whole oil reservoir. It’s two wires and if memory serves, the polarity doesn’t matter. Just visually look and make sure the oil reservoir is actually full.
    With the new oil reservoir, you need to open the threaded cap as it’s filling a bit until it fully fills - you are effectively bleeding and burping it. There are some other YT videos about the oil sensor issue as well. Good luck

      Lots of good info there! Thank you for sharing. To be honest, thats way over my head mechanically. It was much easier for me to just replace the tank. I suppose the easy way out haha.

    Im dealing with the same issue. All you had to do was on the water was remove the cowling and open the vent on remote tank, start engine and watch to fill up remote tank. Its a bit of a pain, and wear a lifejacket doing it. Taking that cowling off and put back on is the hardest part.

      Thank you for that information Ron. That is something I didn't consider and I will definitely keep that in mind if it happens again. Any information on issues like this helps a ton. I appreciate your comment on this. Thank you again! 🙂

      Ron, this was just a temporary fix right? Just something to help you get back to the ramp?

    My beeping is when I first power up the engine, then the oil gauge blinks. Is the sensor faulty or is the engine not getting oil? I could see 3800-4000 rpm. 2012 model

    • @AROoutdoors
      @AROoutdoors  Před rokem

      The sensor inside the oil reservoir (the small oil reservoir located on the motor itself, in my instance anyways) are pretty cheap, so to test that you could try just replacing the sensor and see if that works. Thats what I would start with. Also Checking to make sure the smaller oil reservoir on the motor is filling up with oil.

    I have the same problem on my boat, there is a fault in the sensor indicator. Is there any problem if I control the boat in this way? I use a maximum of 1 hour a week.???

      I'm not sure about that. I would give a certified marine mechanics shop a call on that to be safe.

      Sorry for the late reply Mark. Start engine with cowling off then slightly open the cap on the engine mounted oil tank until oil comes out, then snug cap.

    Thanks for the info. I just had a similar problem today. I got 3 beeps and my gauge indicated I had 4% oil in the reservior. My remote tank is almost full so it’s not low on oil. The oil is just not getting to the engine. I was able to get towed in. Would I need to replace that tank?

    • @AROoutdoors
      @AROoutdoors  Před rokem +1

      I am not 100% sure, but I would start with the line that takes the oil from your tank to the motor.

  • @billyadams8920
    @billyadams8920 Před rokem

    When you had the beeping, did it put the motor in limp mode, or would it keep running. I am having the 4 beeps, but its on hole shot only, and it puts the motor in limp mode. It doesn't do it all the time.

    • @AROoutdoors
      @AROoutdoors  Před rokem

      Yep, it did. Thats exactly how it went for me. I would just get on plane or just about to and then the four beeps and limp mode.

    Is there a air filter. I have a efi 150. I changed the gas and the oil filters from tank to bottle on motor. Spark plugs theamasts. Doing lower unit tomorrow. Anything else

    So I had the same issue, I changed the tank and when I went to prime the tank with the cap off it wouldn't fill, the beeping stopped but the tank won't fill up.

    • @AROoutdoors
      @AROoutdoors  Před rokem +1

      I believe all you should need to do is fill it up the rest of the way yourself and you should be good. BUT, since I am not a certified Mercury mechanic, I would consult with one just to make sure that's ok.

      @@AROoutdoors alright thank you, my dad is confident that we fixed the issue. Unless we had the float go bad and had an air leak start at the same time. Hopefully all is fixed. Going to test it on Tuesday 🤞

      Dang! Thats a bummer, I'm sorry to hear that. If it takes too much longer I would check around with PartsVu and a couple other places and see what their lead time is. I checked PartsVu real quick today and it didn't seem like they were backordered.

      But then again availability could depend on the engine model too.
