hey cut them some slack it's not like they have 800 employees and the funding of god, they gotta take their time! it's hard to add 0.5 mobs per 6-18 months of dev time!
I wanna see Herobrine lose a mob vote for some random mob that give the player a armor for his cats.
Small note: From the Fog doesn't actually add possesed mobs. The datapack is often used in videos with another mod called The End of Herobrine which is much more similar to the other more "boss-like" Herobrine mods. People often confuse features from that mod with features from From the Fog.

I'm just at awe at how the "From the Fog" mod really captured Herobrine
the WAY you'd see him on the corner of your base's window, how he can appear on the stairs to your second floor, how he's just there when you open up an inventory, 10/10
idk man after a while of playing with him in your game it really just gets goofy and a little annoying. a more fleshed out mod that made how he interacts with you more complex and dynamic would be way more intriguing and scary

I'm glad "From the fog" is taking herobrine back to his ghostly roots, most mods I think went too far or made herobrine annoying or a hard boss for no reason, the mod has wonderful potential and I hope we see it grow in the future, maybe with new buildings and secrets.
Honestly i think from the fog is too subtle, ive played it and herobrine barely shows up or does anything, its like if he didnt exist

either way, you can config how often he appears, but adjusting him to be common kinda kills the "he _might_ be there, who knows" take that FTF has

2:59 My story about thinking mods were in the base game: Before I bought the game, I loooved watching a CZcamsr called ipodmail, and I didn't quite understand that he reviewed mods, so when I got the game, I thought I could get horses to spawn if I did what he did. He was using Mo' Creatures, and I couldn't exactly figure out how to install mods until much later (this was around 2010/2011)

This happened to me too, but in my case it was with the Aether MOD. I tried to make the portal after a random video of someone playing the mod. Tried several times, but I was never successful. Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments of my childhood.

From the fog itself or when its standalone doesn't corrupt mobs however the dev has expressed interest but its a blink and you miss it moment.
The corrupted mobs are from another minecraft mod called "The End Of Herobrine"
What I found fun about the From The Fog mod, is that if you have a pet dog, it will growl. Anger growl to be exact. If the dog growls then you know there's something around you and your dog. That's also paying respects to real life dogs that can sense/see things the human eye can't.
My bf and I have "From The Fog" on our modded server. We have 3 dogs who growl 24/7, but we can never find anything... He has spawned on our roof once before, though... hmmmm

I remember one time years ago I was playing pocket edition, Then my dad in another room changed his username to Herobrine and gave himself a Herobrine skin and joined my world to try and freak me out.
My brothers would do the same thing lol
I think the best forms of Herobrine is when he isn't hostile at all, just looming around from far away and from the corners, instiling doubt of whether you saw him or something else. A vivid moment I remember from a Herobrine let's play was when the youtuber brought an instant replay in slow motion, when after he killed a pig, during editing he realized the pig had full white eyes.

That's why i like the mod "True herobrine" a bit more. The one in from the fog can grief your world and do weird stuff, but the one from True herobrine just stands there, and then leaves when you get close enough or see him
From The Fog is really neat, because i think it captures the best of both versions of Herobrine. Hes spooky, like the original version, and much more ghost like, interfering with you less so that hes scarier, and rarely doing anything super problematic. But what he does do, even if not the worst thing to deal with, is still very evidently malicious, and he has his eyes set on you instead of just being some weird creepy loner guy who occasionally appears near you.
the totem pole one just sent me down a rabbit hole of childhood fears. when i was younger and believed in herobrine, i would play minecraft casually, and i would glance at the animals and my eyes would trick me into seeing them with white eyes. i panicked every time cause i remembered thats when herobrine turns them aggressive, but then id blink and theyd be normal again. lol
Makes sense that Herobrine went from creepy ghost to final boss, as graphics progressed people no longer needed to use the "fog" in Minecraft making it much less scarier. (The fog is a phenomenon in which the game's render distance is set to tiny, as computers at the time could not handle the medium or high render distances. This creates a huge "fog" around you.)
"From the Fog" does a pretty solid job in capturing the Herobrine legend, in addition to take it back to its mysterious/ghostly roots.
i have a ton of respect for the devs of From The Fog. it's pretty cool when you realize all of this was made with a datapack, completely in vanilla!
From The Fog would work exceptionally well on the old versions of Minecraft, those have more of a spooky atmosphere (specially if you can't sprint).
Back when I ran a server, the server normally had 150 players on it. Was a fairly tame server (back in 1.7.10). But I put in a very very rare event where herobrine would be standing at maximum server render distance. Most back then could not run the 16 chunk distance. I think only twice it was ever noticed
I've always wanted a mod like From the Fog. Like you said, it is surprising it took this long for such a mod to be made, since ever since the first one stopped being updated no Herobrine mods managed to be similar to it.
_From the Fog_ is, honestly, the best Herobrine rendition mod. I always play with it since it doesn't add anything big or is really disruptive.
It's just the matter of time before someone would decide to make a herobrine exp farm.

One little error, the ''From The Fog'' Mod doesn't add corrupted mobs, the footage you got is from a youtuber Calvin, and he has another Herobrine mod named ''The End of Herobrine'' which is the one that adds corrupted mobs.

I distinctly remember a (now former) friend telling me that you could summon Herobrine in vanilla MC with a totem.
I later found out his younger brother had secretly installed burnner_'s mod. This was around the third time something like this had happened. He was quite gullible.
My only issue with From the Fog is that he’ll just spawn behind you or near you. He should be in the distance, in the corner of your eye, not so in your face. At least, I think so.
You can turn that off in the settings.
Herobrine DOES appear in the distance, it's just difficult to spot him when he does but he appears both close and in the distance.
so, the main reason it took this long is because a lot of modders who have the skills to make Herobrine truly creepy, and not just a boss mob, often look down on anyone that makes a Herobrine mod. it's seen as cheap or boring because it's been done to death. as a result, anyone who might want to make one feels pressured not to
it's why i didn't bother making one after a while, even though i wanted to. peer pressure sucks, and Im glad someone said fuck it and made it anyways. it's cool to see such an old myth come back to the limelight as it was originally meant to be, and not these... frankly boring boss mob adaptations

I remember seeing a Minecraft let's play when I was young of a Herobrine mod that was very similar to From The Fog, in the sense that it was very subtle.
I remember that the let's player would only rarely see Herobrine watching him from the distance.
I remember that Herobrine would leave signs at the let's player's house, and I believe his chest items would get messed with too.
I cannot for the love of Jeb find that let's play again though, or remember what the mod was called. :(

Damn this takes me back to 2011, I remember making the 8 gold shrine and the 2 gold taller totem in a few worls. One of which I ended up encountering torches on the floor (as a thrown item) in a dungeon as if it was destroyed by Herobrine. 10 year old me was terrified but looking back it was probably just glitched world generation... or was it?
I discovered From The Fog in the past couple months, and I had no idea it was this new! I really enjoy it and might even do a new survival world with it running to get the full paranoia feeling 😂
I remember the totem mod when u summoned him in one world he would appear in EVERY single world u had so if u had a test world to test out the mod and went back to your survival world u would have nasty surprise...
herobrine has also been making a resurgence with "lost" creepypasta versions of minecraft, like 1.2.3_03
I just love the paranoid feel From the Fog gives compared to the first Herobrine mods, don't get me wrong, they were terrifying, but From the Fog's effects are so much more subtle and not just cheap jumpscares...

Seems to be like the original 2010 Herobrine mod (And From the Fog) is the best despite back then only seeing the famous "boss" herobrine mod from later, i like the idea of Herobrine being a more random, less frequent, ghost thing, leaving stuff in the world. Well, shamefully never seen this version of the mod back then. I also kinda like the idea of not having a totem to summon and, you don't know what the plugin was doing really until playing for some time.
I'm surprrised you never brought up The Haunted series. Those were great short films, despite being aged over the years.
I was always so fascinated with minecraft mods and plugins as a kid, but never really could figure out how install them, other than modpacks from technic launcher due to mods usually requiring some certain file injection or setup. But after 1.6.4 making mods easier to install, I would start installing mods until my windows XP couldn't handle much more lol.
I still have a bad habit of wanting to add loads and loads of mods to games if ever given the opportunity
I was always bothered by the turn from ghost to secret boss, because nothing about the oldest stories struck me as malevolent.

I was never a big fan of the Burnner version of Herobrine. To me it diluted his lore and degraded him from being a mysterious, ghost-like entity to a generic, malevolent Satan-like entity that couldn't be any further removed from the original story, and it's not surprising he fell out of popularity soon afterwards.
I prefer things like Tkelly or LunarEclipse's versions of Herobrine, which are much closer to the original version while adding their own twists that still keep him as an ominous entity, but don't outright dilute and flanderize him.

And then began the funny things like in patch notes it saying "removed herobrine" and even adding skin packs that had herobrine as early as the old 360 days before the hunger bar. That was peak herobrine for me (even if I did not have any way to play with him in my world except on pocket edition)

From the Fog is absolutely perfect. The way Herobrine just mainly lurks in the distance is just horrifying, way better than having him be a funny boss battle type monster

From the Fog is the mod I dreamed of as a kid. I played burnner’s mod when I was younger and enjoyed it enough, but there were certain aspects about it that always bothered me, like the goofy texts and overpowered behaviour. Imo, From the Fog is perfect, it’s scary without being over the top. I’m so glad that it’s getting the attention it deserves.
i am surprised you didn't mention any of the command block mods that added Herobrine.
i remember a period of time after 2014 where players started making mods that only needed to be activated by using a command block and copying and pasting some code.
there were many herobrine mods, some depicting him as a ghost others as a boss battle, i even remember one that allowed you to become him after killing him
the 1st herobrine mod i ever remember was te one who added a herobrine totem, basically a netherrack with herobrine face on all 4 sides

i would recomend using 1.20.1 Fabric and installing the From the Fog mod, nolstalga tweaks, Modern beta, And the golden days resource pack. All of these combined give you a nolstalgic experience but with the best (imo) Herobrine mod. Sure, it is a recent mc version, but with those mods, the resource pack, and some tweaking, it feels like an older version

Tbh though I feel like most of the ones which made him more like a boss and not a when will he show up thing gave off a feeling I felt fit but not in the right context I always kinda saw it as a “Ghost of the code” thing he was capable of quick manipulations of the world itself in my eyes so while spawning wither skull projectiles makes sense to me it sounds more like what he’d do when cornered than what he’d do outright
Herobrine didn't shape his own legend but the whole Minecraft itself. It was instrumental to so many events
i don't even know how the idea of herobrine being some kind of hostile entity that always wants to kill you came to be

only messes with you once in a while
My favorite old Herobrine mod is this one by Kiterosma. The last version it was updated to was 1.4.7 and they used Modloader instead of Forge or Fabric we all know today. It was the scariest mod, and when you tried to hit Herobrine when he acted like he was AFK he would jumpscare you. Never jumped so high in my life. If people today could get it to work by deleting METAINF file without it reappearing I highly recommend. From the Fog is just as close to it, but the Kiterosma's Herobrine some times growls or makes scary noises and when you look at him the nether portal effect happens.

Who wants Mojang to actually add herobrine in 1.21? I think if they did it secretly it would actually be really cool. I feel we would have a better chance if mojang was never sold to Microsoft though.
They should add him but make him toggleable

less than a hour is crazy
i literally only bought pc minecraft like 10 years ago so i could craft the herobrine block for the totem, because ps3 had a fixed crafting and i didnt know that you could just turn it into the freemode crafting in the settings. i was kinda dissapointed when i realised that 8 bones and a soulsand did not turn into a herobrine totem :(
So, I've played both The End of Herobrine and From the Fog, and here's my view of them:
TEoH: A decent mod for if you want some nostalgic memories of watching youtubers like PopularMMOs fight him. It adds possessed mobs, and Hero will try and kill you. If you use creative mode on the mod, though, Hero will 'glitch' out and become stuck. Good for if you want a boss fight or to glitch out the game with creative mod and tnt minecarts, but not the best.
FtF: Probably the best Herobrine mods I've seen. I'm usually a very aware person, but I didn't even notice Hero half the time. It's best played in single player, but it can still be pretty funny with friends, especially when they're in VR. When Hero runs away, it's pretty janky. He'll get stuck on everything before teleporting, and will walk in the weirdest way. It's like he'll be looking left, but holding both the W key and the D key at the same time.
My opinion?
If you want a boss battle or to see what a lot of the youtubers were playing back in ye ol' days, play TEoH
If you want to have something more faithful to the original story (and to give yourself nightmares for a week), play FtF
If you want both, then play both. Have fun with the 37 Herobrines

Mojang should add herobrine as a randomly encountered boss to spice up the game. like imagine making your first base and having stone tools and having the feeling you could be flung into boss fight.
