- Termination of distribution board for beginners step by step guide for DB installation for industry and domestic use
Devices used in the DB
RCBO(Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent)
Modern Distribution Boards use RCBOs instead of using the combination of MCB and RCCB because it provides the facilities of both MCB and RCCB. In the three-phase to single-phase distribution board, the four poles RCBO is used where all the three phases and neutrals go through the RCBO.
MCB(Miniature Circuit Breaker)
Generally, single-pole MCBs are used for the output loads. All three phases have an equal number of MCBs. For example, if the DB has eight MCBs, then each of all three phases will be connected to eight MCBs. So, the total MCBs in the box will be twenty-four (24).
Neutral Link
A neutral link is used to distribute a neutral supply to all the output loads. When single-pole MCBs are used for output loads, the neutral wire of the loads is connected to the neutral link.
Earth Link
The earthing terminal of the power supply and loads are connected to the earth link. Sometimes, the wire from the earthing pit is also directly connected to the earth link. Even the metallic body of the distribution panel is also connected to the earth link.
Connection Procedure
First of all, select MCB and RCBO Rating as per your load requirements.
Identify the input-output sides of the MCB and RCBO.
Also, identify the line and neutral terminals on the RCBO if it has.
Now connect all the there phases and neutral from the input power supply to the input of the RCBO.
Connect the L1(or R phase) terminal from the output of the RCBO to all the single pole MCBs that you want to connect with the L1 terminal or R phase.
Connect the L2(or Y phase) terminal from the output of the RCBO to all the single pole MCBs that you want to connect with the L2 terminal or Y phase.
Connect the L3(or B phase) terminal from the output of the RCBO to all the single pole MCBs that you want to connect with the L3 terminal or B phase.
Connect the neutral wire from the output of the RCBO to the neutral link. If the DB has multiple neutral links, then interconnect them with each other.
Connect the Earth Wire (it may come from the input power cable or earth pit) to the Earth link. If the DB has multiple Earth links, then interconnect them with each other.
Follow the below procedure if you use MCB and RCCB instead of RCBO,
Connect all three phases and neutral from the input power supply to the input of a 4-pole MCB.
Now connect the output of the 4-pole MCB to the input of a 4-pole RCCB.
Connect the neutral from the output of the RCCB to the neutral link.
Connect all three phases from the output of the RCCB to the single-phase MCBs by connecting an equal number of MCBs per phase.
Earthing connection is the same for both types of connection.
Nice work. Thanks sir
You are welcome
Weldon.may God bless your hard work
You explained so well my brother....lots of love and respect from India 👍🏻🤝🏻🇮🇳
You are welcome
Amazing content
Thank you
Thank you very much sir, for the explanation. But i don't really like the pattern of playing music while giving out such a good lecture. Please sir, in your next video try to maintain 100% dicurume.
OK sir
Please explain more on the Red, Yellow and Blue phases, how do you determine the load for the colored phases?
OK new video will be available for that
Follow and stay connected
Thank you very for explanation. But the situation where by red, yellow and blue is been connected which one is the neutral live or earth?
Black & green with yellow strib
I love it and want to learn from you brother,
Sure if you are in Abuja then you can visit our office at plot 762 Aminu Kano Crescent Wuse
Perfectly done
A good mentor cannot play music when works is going on.but you try
Sorry for the song. I will redo
Please can you make a video on how to wire a three phase cutout from a single phase supply and also how to wire a three phase changeover. Thanks alot
OK will be uploaded next week
well explained, but concerning the cable tie don't u think that tie it too tight can subject it to heating up the entire bunched cable during fault occurrence which may likely affect the whole bunched cable as a result burnt?
You have a point but heat don't cable don't occur because the re tie together because if is about that Amourd Cable will be burning every day
Good work, next time explain it bit by bit please
OK I will upload more videos a better one
Please, can you attach a single phase RCD to a 3 Phase DB in case of using the 3 Phase DB for Single Phase Wiring?
Yes in as much as it single phase wiring but the load should not be more than the capacity of the single phase RCD
I need a video of connecting a 3 selfcon to a distribution board and each 3 changeover switch
OK that's for single distribution board or different
Please your breakers arrangement I'm not clear to it can you explain it further
Can you be specific with you questions
Are those stranded and solid wires
Please explain the single phase and 3phase and difference between them.
Thank you boss
OK, thanks I will make a video with well detailed description
Please explain the 3phase main switch to changeover to TPN to single phase main switch maybe the person machine using 110v
I wish I understand your question
But I thought 💭 we use 1.5 mm for the lighting points nd 2.5mm for sockets
But here I’m hearing arms 🙄
Welcome my friend, I will take much of my time soon to educate Africa on Electricity, traditional you are right but calculativily your wrong, All cable Size have is it Amp rate which can be used for load balancing, so with proper calculations you can even use 1mm for lighting point.
What size is the main breaker
100amp
@De Ebumars Innovation African( Installation Guide) Thanks for your reply
Pls what's the maximum current that can be drawn from a 3 phase system
Good question, let me explain Amp of distribution board are of different rating for different countries in Nigeria we have 3 set of 3phase Distribution board. Which are 3PH D4, 3PH D6 and 3PH D8 respectively which through this the rating of your distribution board is calculated. I will like more questions so that I can do more videos on distribution board
which wire brings light to the db
OK good, the wire that supply the DB will be connected at the Main Switch terminal below
Why did you used 25 Amp breaker for AC , and Standing FAN instead of 30 or 32 Amp breaker?
Converting Amp to watts, 25amp 25-amp 240-volt circuit: 25 amps x 240 volts = 5,500 watts.
Knowing that 1hp AC is equal to 745.1watts and 2hp = 1491.1watts which is still not upto 25amp. So if I may ask how did you get you calculation of 30 to 35amp thank you.
Not forget to subscribe and let me know what video you will like me to do
How to load a 3 phase consumer unit
3phase consumers unit are of different rating and MCB.
1. Calculate your total load
2.Divide your total load by the number of MCB
3 Ensures that the power and lighting unit are balanced according to the Amp rate.
Couldn't clearly here you explain the amp size thing
Ok a new video will be made to clearly state that stay turned
@@De_ebumars 🙏
Ludicrous! What's all that music for... In electrical issue... Nigerians are in love with backwardness.
Pls can I learn from u?
Sure if you are within Abuja
Playing music while teaching.how can ur students understand.
What u are teaching.
OK I will redo without music
The music is annoying
OK, I will redo sorry 😞
