I mean... Midsommar is essentially Beltane I think. It is late because it's cold as hell in Sweden during the spring. So it makes sense that it would rain a lot. Most places in the US spring is the most turbulent time of year with a lot of thunderstorms and rain. But I'm sure since it's still pretty cold where you're from it's just dreary up there.

As someone who has read the script I cannot help but notice the similarity between this film and what's going on in Sweden (and the rest of the world) at the moment. Spoilers ahead....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got high as shit with some friends on Halloween and we watched this and let me tell you, I’ve never been more anxious in my life. It wasn’t necessarily “scary” but it hit all the right spots in the anxiety department with the sound design and subtle visuals throughout the movie. Overall an 8/10 movie, would recommend

This film was a masterpiece. It's so full of foreshadowing and Easter eggs that I've watched it numerous times to see if I can find more. It's very well acted and brilliantly directed with the most amazing cinematography I've seen in a long time. You don't have to wonder what's hiding in the dark because those you should beware of are dressed in white, dancing in the sunshine. Pretty great film in my opinion.

This movie was INSANE... and the camera angles were amazing. I got so much anxiety watching it especially with the music. That cliff scene traumatized me for a good 30 min though. wasn't expecting it to straight up show the impact of their heads like that lol

@Bratislav Metulski no c-movie would ever be capable of being stuck in my head for as long as Midsommar has been. It may have some weak sides but overall it's really good. The atmosphere, the landscapes, the music, the dubious morality behind the cult, the ending... You may not like the film cuz it's certainly not for everyone, but it's not a c-movie.
@Bratislav Metulski It's not really meant to be unpredictable, or "fun" per se. It's fine if you didn't enjoy it, everything is up to personal preference, but just because you personally don't enjoy a slow-burn flim that's meant to get under your skin instead of shock you doesn't mean it's bullshit

The scariest part of the movie is not from a scene, but from the IDEA that you would very innocently agree to go along with someone you consider a friend to a foreign country, not at all knowing exactly where they're taking you or what to expect, and then, after arriving, you realize it's a cult out in the middle of nowhere, and there's no way to escape or call for help. Being someone who's traveled overseas to non-touristy areas, that notion really struck me.
I was thinking exactly the same while watching the trailer.
Yea kind of makes you think about all the vacations you went on with "friends" who actually werent. It's like you were alone the whole time. Well at least she finally got the support system she needed

This movie just shows you that you don't need the darkness to create a good horror (edit: psychological thriller) movie.
edit:- I know there's a lot of people who dislike this movie and that's totally fine, this is purely my opinion and what blew me away was the sophisticated symbolism, use of colour and Pugh's acting.

I felt myself sympathising with the sect sometimes, I felt myself feeling happy for Dani for finding a community, I felt myself jealous over the “solidarity” they had in Hårga, and this is exactly how cults recruit people. I'm Swedish and I would like to formally invite all of you to celebrate midsummer here with us next year. The full years has not passed yet so the next sacrifice is not due for another 85 years, so it's all good. And yes, the sun does not go down during that day, it's bright 24/7.
as a sequel to hereditary you get so much more perspective, understanding this as recovery from a prior experience makes it so much more special

I suffer with Anxiety and that cliff scene had me at the edge of my seat, had to pause the movie a few times to calm down
I also do suffer from anxiety + depression and I just watched the movie yesterday. That's just my personal feeling, but it didn't trigger my anxiety at all (I've just been asking myself how hard I would've break down in any of the characters situation, but I put the thought away). It was a terrifying movie anyways.
Maybe I've been so calm because I've got a huge interest in true crime for years and have seen many gruesome things since 😅

Hall Of The Vardy the new one is dark, i agree; but the old one was just pure daylight horror. And being a super horror fan, I love watching movies that mess you up in broad daylight. I mean, jump scares and darkness scares everyone, its way too common and lame.
This is honestly one of the most twisted and disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. And I mean it in a good way it’s soooo good
This movie was amazing! It had loads of little detail and the story was great. Amazing acting to everyone, and also great costume design and gore. Overall, just like Hereditary these quickly became my favorites as they leave a shocking and lasting impression on me.

Nick dude...Everyone has they’re own opinion, like I have about that film. You can’t just tell me what’s good or not cause you found it boring. My statement still stands despite that. It wasn’t some generic horror film like the trailer showed it to be, whether you found it boring or not.
I felt like the last trailer for Midsommar was a lot better. This one spends the first third of the trailer giving way too many details for my taste.

I read the leaked script and although I won’t spoil it I will say that hereditary is scarier but midsommar is more disturbing. What I mean by that is hereditary had the demonic and haunting elements that invoked fear, whereas this one has more violent scenes that will make you look away from the screen and make you sick to your stomach.
That's a shame. That's the idea I got from the trailers. I guess I'll still go see it, maybe.

Midsommar is a masterpiece, one of the greatest films of all time.
You need to be totally drunk or blind not to appreciate the classical cosmic horror, the symetry of the stages in the background, the colors and contrasts used in the montage, the absolute minimum of the background story to comprehend the main topic, the climate of scenes, the landscape used in this movie. You can easily see the the director took a lot of effort and energy in composing this masterpiece called, Midsommar
also forgot to mention a lot of stuff, but the music needs to be mentioned and appreciated
This movie is one of the ALL-TIME best motion pictures ever created. Ari Aster is a legend.

This past summer I went to visit my Swedish cousins during midsommars and trust me it’s actually an amazing thing to experience.
Felt like a bad trip the whole movie. Especially the scene were she’s dreaming about everyone leaving her. Gave me anxiety
to me thats the scariest part lol

Midsommar is, without a doubt, a haunting, hypnotic art film that still preys on empathy to this day.
I have never been more afraid of sounds or a subtle noise in a movie in the way i do with Ari Asters films. If I were blind & could only hear the audio of the entire movie I’d still be just as terrified w/out having to visually see anything.
I want to see this, but I still haven’t gotten over my Hereditary trauma.
The combination of Hereditary and Jordan Peele saying Midsommar has some of the most grotesque imagery he's ever seen makes me simultaneously dread seeing this and also counting down the days until I can.

If you liked Hereditary, then you'll love this.
They are both very similar in the sense that there are alot of twisted and disturbing moments, however its pretty slow overall, so if youre into psychological horrors then this is perfect. Its not scary or spooky by any means, its just eerie and random, but its definitely not going to give you nightmares, so if youre looking for a super scary movie then this is not it.
Edit: without spoiling too much, I feel like there were quite alot of seperate stories within this movie that would of made great movies on their own. For example the tragic scene at the start would of made a great movie on its own. The relationship between the two main actors would of been a great self-discovery movie on its own aswell. So many elements that worked well together but could of been even stronger on their own.
I appreciate your comment and analysis, but I feel that different things are scary to different people; to me, movies where people are chased by a monster or killer aren't scary; stuff like this which is very outlandish and unsettling is what's genuinely scary for me. Because it separates you from anything that's familiar and comforting.

@@janedoe6121you're absolutely right! Perhaps mental images are more terrifying for some people than actual monsters. I personally love horrors so this wasnt scary to me, but I can see how some people might be affected after watching it - primarily because of the disturbing scenes.
Hereditary was WAY better, this wasn’t scary at all
This is one of those films the more times you watch it the more you see each time. Not only that but I found it very helpful to have the subtitle's on. A lot better to grasp when you start looking into say, Ymir who's mentioned when Dani compliments the one guys frock.
