Hyperbole, nothing in a movie is "genuinely terrifying" unless you're still a child. Jump scares are easy, psychological horror films that don't rely on jump scares are rare and even more rare being done well.

This movie is actually much better than it looks from the promo. Not just scary happenings and killings but very well played and planned what is the real problem and how to make it scare and imagine what if it would be on yourself.
The main character was very logical and knowing the human intelligence level it describes very well how it can be very problematic and how you can be very alone instantly because of everyone's ability to believe and understand only something that they see and have learned. And the woman was in summary pretty smart. Although, I think in this condition, I would ask everybody just to lock me in chains or something and would have stopped to meet everyone completely just in case. But seeing how this spirit's ability to cheat the victim's mind you still can be never sure of did you really made everything completely right or if you just think so. 😀
i think u can only beat the demon by killing yourself in a secluded area
no... id say, you become scary yourself in your own way so the demon runs away from you... @@nicolovespanda
I agree... the poster for the movie is a disaster, their marketing team should be fired, maybe it was...
Right? The movie was unexpectedly scary and no one was laughing since they thought it would be silly and stupid but instead screaming in the theater, hehe.

Awhile ago a girl at my work told me this movie was really scary. I thought she probably just frightened easily. I finally got around to watching it last night and all I have to say is she was right, it is really scary! Granted a number of the scares are jump scares but it doesn't solely rely on those to be effective. And you can definitely see the influence other great horror movies had on this director.

The way they set up all these scares is genuinely terrifying and that’s not something we see in a lot of modern horror films. The ending scene alone has me excited for this.

It’s a total mind-f, has a good story which keeps you invested, and some major wtf moments I doubt I’ll ever forget, this movie is worth a go for horror-thriller fanatics
Thats why u watch it
Gotta be real, I went to the cinema yesterday to watch this one with my fellas, and my friend told me that the movie was actually really good, but to be honest I didn't even expect that was a horror movie (I didn't even watched the trailer), I thought that it just was a soft thrill movie, but I gotta be real, this is the best horror movie I watched in my life. Even better than some classics I saw. The soundtrack, the story, the ambience. A masterpiece.

Finally a happy movie I can watch with my 5 year old. Her mom always screams at me for watching horror and thriller with her. My daughter's gonna tell her mom all about it when she gets home I'll probably be asleep by then. Sweet dreams then a refreshing wake in the morning 😊
Some of these scenes should not be in the trailer. Especially the last scene. It would have been better if we saw it in the cinema for the first time.
Everyone saying “I thought she’d be smiling in that last scene” go in 0.25x and pause it. She is smiling! 😂

Have you gotten tired of Horror films that are not scary? Trailers that overpromise and movies that under-deliver? Cliché, predictable jumpscares? Bad script? Cheap cinematography? Unrealistic character reactions and dialogues?
I FEEL YOU.
This movie is not this type. This movie is ACTUALLY fcking good.

The teaser was launched during Top Gun. I think because both of them are distributed by Paramount.

@@ONLYOUSSEMA Reading is hard
Just saw this movie. It is genius in how horrifying it is even in it's simplicity. Definitely worth watching in theatres. The horror techniques used including pacing, cinematography, audio mixing, and misleading was all done very well. It is a great study of the standard of a psychological horror movie.
I’ve seen the movie. Out of everything out that film, the birthday scene is definitely the most upsetting and most deeply disturbing.
When she go to sister and her sister can't help her and when she is in car and devil come in form of her sister
This is more scary
This movie gave me chills. It’s been awhile since I’ve experienced this from a movie
I haven't seen anyone talking about it, so I'll add my opinion about one of the scariest parts of this trailer. The music.
It sends chills down my spine, even though its just a repeating pattern of one note sometimes. But the way that note moves as if its getting closer or further away sometimes truly horrifies me. And there's something extremely uncanny about the breathiness and the perfect pitch of the note that makes my skin crawl.
Trailer wouldn't have been half as scary without it. Even listening to the soundtrack alone without visual was scary for me.
Agree 100%. The soundtrack itself makes me think this movie is gonna be good- creates a really good unsettling atmosphere
You mean that default horror movie trailer music that's been used for the past 10 years?
@@QTEEP 0:45 - 1:18 listen to this using ur earphone. Barbarian new trailer has this kind own back sound too. I'm obsessed to it

defo one of the movies ever made, i like how the director directed the movie, actors were hired, script was scripted
Went to see this with only my cousin late at night in October as a joke, and was terrified and surprised for how great it was.
Some times the movie I say I will never watch, end up being the best movie ever, so 🤷 maybe I'll give it a try! Let me know!
I also thought this 'Smile' movie was bad from what I'd seen in its trailer. But it's only a trailer, and trailers are misleading sometimes. I chose to watch it even though it doesn't really interest me. It blew my mind after watching the movie, as I understood the meaning behind it. Trust me, you'll love it more than what you could give.
Came here right after watching the movie, btw. Giving it 4.9/5.
@@beeootyful No, I used the 5/5 rating. Using /10 rating, then it would be 9.9/10.

I was leaving the theater to go to the restroom and this trailer came on. I was so intrigued by it I decided to stay to watch it and I was not disappointed. That last scene, just as everyone else is saying, definitely sold me on wanting to see the movie. It was such a good scare and SO unexpected! Very well executed by the director, I can't wait to see it to see what else they came up with in this movie because I love supernatural horror movies!

It was a decent horror flick but I thought they missed a massive opportunity with the ending. I thought after the scene where they give the audience the impression that she faced her trauma and beat the demon, then returns to her ex, the cop (which turned out to be a hallucination) it could have gone like this: 5-10 minutes of screen time showing that everything is alright, she's moving on with her life, we the audience think it's a happy ending. Maybe she gets back together with the cop, they are playing happy families in his or her home. She is chopping vegetables in the kitchen for dinner, he heads off to another room. She is there chopping, with a small smile of content on her face. And slowly the camera pans in, she looks the camera head on as if she's locking eyes with the audience, the small smile turns into the signature creepy smile and she slits her own throat. The end. Leaving us with the creepy feeling that the curse was passed on to us.
You need to be writing scripts cause that ending would probably traumatize some of the audiences & I love it
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I liked your story better than movie

This movie is great. While not exactly the best of the best in the horror genre, but definitely one of the worthy horror films there is. The cinematography is amazing, the soundtrack is tense and unnerving, the jump scares are properly executed. Worth the watch!

It’s definitely one of the dumbest. Just a lazy ripoff of The Ring and It Follows.
Jump scares are for films that can’t write a proper story

This had me screaming so many times. Don't watch the trailer. I watched this in the movie theatre without knowing what the premise was and I did not regret it. 10/10 for the horror. Loved every scary moment of it. It's not the typical ghost horror but this was sooooo scary!
Get this comment to the top. Everyone come back and watch the trailer if you see this, you'll thank me.
Not scary at all. Maybe for kids under six.

For me this movie is a masterpiece and the reason is very simple. The main character is a psychiatrist/psychologist which needs to explain with logic what sees and then we have paranormal that will question and drive crazy a person who is trained to deal with craziness!!!
