How I changed hinge on my 1989 Chevy C1500 Silverado's tailgate.
The old one had completely rusted away. I had to remove the right one and alter it for the purpose of making it fit.

Finally a video that confirms that the pieece is welded at the bottom. I kept thinking if it's bolted on top why weld it at the bottom?

Thanks for the video! I was thinking that area was welded and had me stuck.

Yeah, I don't know why they don't make these things easier to change because they obviously go bad. Good luck!

So if you upgrade to LED on the tail lights you will have to do the front turn signals and replace the flasher relay with one that works with LED's so be aware of that. There are lots of videos on how to clean up the headlight lens and tail light lens the one I tried that worked pretty good was by a youtuber called Chrisfix so maybe check that out its pretty easy and could save you a few bucks.

+MidwestMotoRider Thanks for the info, I'll look into that. I actually have used chrisfix's method on my for focus headlights, Made em look brand new. He's awesome!

+MidwestMotoRider BTW, the taillights have begun to rot away, they are super brittle and chipping and cracking so there is no saving them. I have to change them one way or the other. Thanks for looking out for me though

+John Sellers Ah.. then yea time to replace them, I did not know they were that far gone. ;) I actually used Chris's video on headlight restro on my HHR for some reason the drivers side only went yellow. Saved me a few bucks. I think it would have been a flawless restro if I could lay down a 2k clear.. but over all I am happy with it. Have a good week keep us posted on the trucks.. :)
