- Welcome back to another Chateau de Bruges video!
More friends and family here this week helping us to prepare the garden for the winter so it can look even more beautiful next spring.
Thankyou to Sean and Julia who spent a busy couple of days with us this week and shared all of their experience of running your ski chalet in the Alps. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the chateau same time next year!
Charles also makes a return this week to keep us busy in the garden. We hope to have Charles with us for another week to really get on top of the garden and have it ready for the coming winter.
Jenn (Graham’s daughter) visits the chateau for the first time since the purchase and therefore makes her first appearance on the channel! She is going to be a busy girl this week but its great to have her here and experiencing the chateau in the early stages of the renovation! I am sure she will be a natural in front of the camera and you will see her star in next weeks video!
Lastly! Back by popular demand, Grandad and Grandma return to the chateau to set up the greenhouse and vegetable patch for the coming winter. We know you all love their input on the channel, and we will make sure to get plenty of content for you to watch next week!

Cutting down the diseased tree was a wise idea! Not only did you spare the Chateau from getting damaged in a windstorm, but you likely saved other trees from getting infected also. You really cleaned the area up nicely! It looks great. 👍

While it's always nice seeing the inside of the chateau breathe again, I do love watching the grounds come back to life! Loved the chainsaw countdown haha! I always wished I'd've had a greenhouse when I was younger. That back stone wall is so cool, why would you cover that up?! It will be glorious when it's completed! I do love a good grounds transformation! And Graham peeking out from behind the pillar...again your style just makes me smile. Wonderful to see your family back, and pet Merlin for me! 😊 xo

💕Pollarding those tree’s & cutting back the others opens it up the new entrance looks fantastic for those bigger vehicles💕The greenhouse looks much better for you to grow winter crops💕

Wow, you sure accomplished a lot! The tree coming down and the fixing up of the greenhouse....it's a beauty! I love the new entrance! I can imagine the original being the way in for carriages perhaps...much more narrow? Just a guess. What a team! Great accomplishments! I love your bloopers!!!
Absolutely spot on Norma! We also believe that the old entrance would have been a back entrance for workmen/staff of the chateau. The new entrance we created was definitely an entrance originally too as it leads to the path that goes around the whole chateau to the most beautiful entrances!

Loads and loads of stuff done this week in preparation for Winter and more importantly Grandma and Grandpa. The larger gate will make a big difference for safety. I guessed 7 for Graham to get the chainsaw going.
Loads more to do Rochelle so CZcams will be busy next week too! That was a major part in the opening of the new gate. 7 was being generous!! 😂😂

Hi guys, firstly great vlogs!
Just catching up and watching the tour of the 1st floor. Re the painted windows - I had the same trouble with a bathroom window I painted. Later I was told there are now glass vitrail paints that purport to be anti-fade although I've not used them. This was years ago but just wanted to make sure you knew that you may always have that problem with 🌞 not the worst problem to have!! 😃💜

For breaking up/de-rooting trees, consider using a reciprocal saw. We had to remove a number of mature trees from our property and it made the job much easier. You’ve accomplished an incredible amount of work!

Great work! I finally learned what was done to trees to make them looked so cut back-Pollard! Green houses are vital to a working chateau, so fabulous job cleaning and enclosing the green house! Finally, listening to your guests and creating a wider gate! I image you need to cut back bushes at the old gate as well, but, you have soooo many bushes and yard work, it's unbelievable how much you did just in this video!

A very satisfying tidy up. Well done, it's looking even smarter. Some bulbs along the verge outside the chateau might be nice, or maybe that would be too English.

Next time notch the tree halfway through in the direction you want it to fall, knock out the core, and cut a slit opposite and above the notch. This will prevent kickbacks. Lumberjack videos will explain the sequence

You could have cut out 3 rounded pieces of the remaining tree stump, sand them down and stain ...add legs and you would have had side tables from that tree.

hmm safety and chain saws... that is a big tree. Greenhouse is clean and ready to go. Yeah!! Plexiglass works in window as well for Greenhouses. What do you use to blacken the stove and why? What cute area. Love all the work

Two pointers while watching your video, first, never ever start a chainsaw how you’ve shown it. You should start it on the ground with your foot underneath where the handlebar is also priming would help too second if you’re continually using your truck to haul off your shredded bark, I would suggest putting cardboard or a piece of wood and a blanket over your back window so you don’t have a replacement cost due to negligence.
Really appreciate it Bruce! Unfortunately your excellent suggestions are just a little too late! I decided to throw a log through that very back window a few months back! 😂🙈 safe to say we’ve learned that lesson though! 👍🏼👍🏼
Saw some of the renovation... the outcome is fantastic but there is one flaw, the toilet floor and wall was not water proof.

@@ChateaudeBruges the bathroom floor mdf/plywood is not water proof. Also the wooden beam is not water proof. There is load of material out there can do the job by paint it on the wood surface.

A strategically placed ladder was utilised not long after filming :)
There are grinders to rent for taking a stump down into the ground.

The one we have can chip branches upto 100mm in width. It’s very efficient, just we have no fuel left for it at the moment! 🙈

I think, if they were red and black things they’re called Fire bugs here in France. They’re harmless but they multiple this time of year and they’re everywhere outside!

@@kateershova I think they’re fairly common across the EU. They can clump in patches of hundreds at a time but you won’t walk more than a yard without seeing one!

The tree was diseased Gloria. It was also leaning towards the chateau. We had to safely take it down before it fell down in the direction of the chateau.

Cutting a few trees is the least we could do to improve the grounds.
