I saw it last night with my friend. Two other people were in the screening. My friend and I were in stitches 😂 The guy in front of us started losing it too and the other guy left during the final act. I think It's worth seeing for a laugh just see it with someone.
So this film is basically that episode of the Simpsons then Mr Burns self financed his own movie 'A Burns for All Seasons' directed by Señor Spielbergo. Burns also bribed the judges to win the film Festival.
“We did 20 takes, and that was the best one” That line, from Mr. Burns, sounds like it pretty much sums up ‘Blackbird’- or ‘BlackTurd’ as it will no doubt end up being known as haha.
"Is it worth seeing for a laugh?" "No" Pity, because the 2-min trailer had me in stitches with the scene of Mr Flatley broodily walking away in the rain, and you could see the "rain" was only falling on him and not the adjacent path or lawn. Also, those infamous inaugural Monaco Streaming Film awards in 2021. Funny how there was a 'best actor' award but no 'best actress' and also funny that the 2021 awards have been scrubbed from their website. And also how the company behind the awards is incorporated in less sunny but still shady, Ireland.
I have no trust in Kermode's sense of humour at all. Cant wait to see this :) The fact these two are laughing so much shows how this film is about seeing it with friends and making jokes. "Its not cinema, stop making it", I cant stand this attitude. I love that this film exists, and will be awful :) I already want a sequel. If Mark had his way, Neil Breen wouldnt be allowed to make films :)
@@smacksalad ; well, just as Blackbird can exist because of one man’s narcissism and loads of money, so can Kermode’s hilarious reactional rant. The joys of living in a democracy I guess….
The best part of that fight scene is one of the actresses watching the fight visibly barely containing her laughter. I can't believe they just kept that shot in.
It sounds like the scene from The Simpsons episode, when Mr Burns makes a short film, starring himself; then at the awards show, when he watches it back, he says: “We did 20 takes, and THAT was the best one”
Had the misfortune to encounter Flatley over thirty years ago when he was an unknown novelty hoofer for the Chieftains, long before Riverdance. He radiated arrogance and self regard even then.
I went to see the movie yesterday. I had to walk out 30 minutes in. Never walked out of a movie before. It was torture. It’s not even worth going to see it for a laugh… if you want the fog of depression to engulf you, to lose the will to live, then go for it, it’s been over 24 hours since I saw Blackbird and I’m feeling so low. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
For me, it was one of the greatest cinema experiences of my life. A packed cinema in Dublin had a great laugh, this will become a serious cult movie for the ages.
Flatley gives me the impression he would like people to stand and applaud when he enters the room. I reckon he's the kind of guy who never asks the question "What is your name?"
I saw this earlier tonight at a busy Prince Charles Cinema. The audience started laughing at the opening credits, then continued to howl at every terrible line, smouldering look or jaunty hat. It's the worst film I've seen since The Lonely Lady starring Pia Zadora as an aspiring screenwriter. Both jaw droppingly awful movies starred a lead who can't act. One of our group loved Blackbird so much he's going again tomorrow and taking more friends. I'm certainly going again. It's a cult hit in the making.
He might not seem convincing as a sex symbol but Flatley is one of the few actors who has enjoyed "intimate relations" with the writer, director AND the producer. On a serious note, Taron Egerton must be absolutely fuming with this release.
I know someone who attended the press screening, here in Ireland. He said there were audience members roaring with laughter throughout the movie; at things that weren't supposed to be funny...this movie was made for Mark to savage, and I can't wait to see it.
I saw the man himself on BCC Breakfast promoting this last week and just from that I knew it would be exactly as Mark has so brilliantly described it. Narcissistic doesn't even come close.
