      My home office - simracing space consists of an IKEA Gallant desk (milk white glass top) with grey feet, white walls, gray office chair and a huge white wardrobe. I cannot, in good conscience, put a full black rig in this room, which is why I would love the pure grey aluminum. Nowadays it seems that everyone is selling black anodized 8020 rigs... Do you think that I could order it from simlab without the color? I mean as a special request, since they don't give an option on the site.

      Where did you get your seat from?

  • @AdamB5000
    @AdamB5000 Před rokem +4

    I think it goes without saying that Sim Lab doesn't have to watch any review videos before they are published. It's a simple design that works, and works well.
    For me the biggest challenge/headache is getting the position right. Adjusting the wheel bracket, etc, is a bit of trial and error to get it perfect. And if the wheel base is already attached, it's heavy. Just take your time and think through every step. Don't rush the build.

    • @AdamB5000
      @AdamB5000 Před rokem +6

      Also, I was reluctant to buy a cockpit because I, "Wanted to spend all my money on nicer gear." I wanted a nicer wheel or PC or monitors, etc. Finally I bit the bullet and turned out to be one of the best sim racing upgrades I've ever done. For a while I thought I'd be happier with slightly larger monitors, a nicer wheel base, etc. But the reality is a cockpit is the core of the sim rig. Without a proper cockpit, everything else feels a little less nice. Or phrases better, a good cockpit makes all your toys feel a little better. And now I can bolt nearly anything to my rig with ease. I have no restrictions on upgrades.

  • @virdog
    @virdog Před rokem +2

    My first rig was their GT1 EVO (not coated) and it was awesome and lasted me many, many years. There weren't many options back then. Recently, I decided I wanted even more rigidity after upgrading to a DD but decided to get an ASR rig. Very similar build quality and way more coating options. I'm also in eastern Canada so it made sense to buy local.
    They say Sim Lab set the benchmark for profile rigs. Very true IMHO.

  • @GorillaSnapper
    @GorillaSnapper Před rokem +5

    I think the real point to hammer home is if you can stretch your budget, absolutely stretch to a 160 profile rig. Yes Dave is correct in that Simlabs do very well with their packaging and tnuts, like Heusinkveld they've earned their reputation, but the chonkier profile matters most. Get everything as thick as you can get it. Profile pedal tray is a must, seat brackets, try get them at least 4mm thick. Plenty of good brands out there that offer 160 profile rigs, some cheaper than others because they do use cheaper fastners etc, but a 160 profile is so much of an improvement over an 80 profile rig. A 160 profile rig is an absolute buy once cry once purchase as a sim racer and you'll have it until the end of your days.

    A few years ago I thought I save some money to design and build my own rig with the exact same materials as Sim-Lab uses, but in the end I spend more money than a similar Sim-Lab rig. I must admit that I used some essential parts from Sim-Lab, like the wheel deck, iso monitor mounts, sliding pedal plate and some other stuff. Some quality parts from Sim-Lab, very thoughtful designs!

  • @olibateson
    @olibateson Před rokem +1

    Good review, I agree, Sim-Lab are top notch and I don't envisage having to ever replace my P1-X. I did a lot of research when looking to replace my old tubular frame rig a couple of years ago and went for this mainly because its rock solid, so that I can get the most out of a DD wheel base and high load pedals. My P1-X also had a lot of spare fixings which makes it easy to add a new shifter or button box (not sure if that's the same with all P1-X's). I can also recommend their triple screen mount which is equally sturdy and their VARIO adjuster for fine tuning triple screen alignment.

  • @chrissimpson1098
    @chrissimpson1098 Před rokem

    This might sound a little strange, but bear with me. Your Sim Lab seat, your fixed back seat, I’m just mulling over whether I should swap out my comfy BMW 1 series road car seat for fixed back seat, indeed SIMLAB speed seat (the other one without the wrap around top) is top of the list with the Sparco fixed back. Why?
    Well I’ve been struggling with consistent application of my HE Sprint brake pedal, I just can’t replicate the same brake pressure for the same corner, lap to lap, sometimes it spikes to say 90% (locks up) sometimes I overshoot and looking back it plateaued at 50%. Also I don’t seem to be able to generate more than 25kg with realistic pedal application in HE software. I’ve been gradually stiffening the brake pedal with elastomers trying to stiffening the pedal, so I can push harder, not that I want to, but thinking if I can apply more force the consistency might improve. Anyway while pushing the brake pedal last night, I stuck a spare hand down behind my lower back and realised I’m pushing my myself off the pedal and into my comfy car seat back.
    So here’s my question, when you moved up from your Sparco R333 recliner to the fixed back, did you detect, any change to the consistency of your braking, did it become more consistent, or an increase of brake force (kg) for the same amount effort in the pedal push?
    It seems to me rather than pushing a rock while lent up against a hard place, I’ve been between a soft and a soft place, (and after mangling that metaphor) and now in effort improve my braking consistency I’m just pushing myself away from the brake pedal, into the seat back seat, which is comfy, and I thought fairly stiff but maybe not for race car application, and a big lad like myself.
    No pressure. So I’m thinking would the fixed back simlab seat help? Does even my theory make sense? And yes, it also could be something else. I maybe rubbish.

    • @davecamm
      @davecamm  Před rokem +1

      Yes a fixed seat will definitely help with your consistency. You don't want anything to move at all. I used to do exactly the same in my old more comfortable seat. 👍

      Possibly.
      I don’t have a partner to filter my man maths through, so I think I can say this purchase can be justified. 🤣

    I don't agree to the fact that a P1X is the perfect chassis to have. You can upgrade the SimLab P1X to what I call a TREX. Simply put you buy yourself a TR160 front mount along with their own Trak Racer aluminum brackets 8 of them (The ones that allows you to sandwich two profiles together) . Then you tap one of the extremities of the long profiles with M8 (1325mm ones) and one of the lateral base profiles from both sides again with M8. You place the TR brackets on far rear, the base of the side mount bracket, the base of the uprights, you replace their front mount with the TR one, You get yourself a TREX. Then you don't need any more chassis for life!!

    I got a P1-X last year and it’s been worth every penny, I have the integrated triple monitor stand and it’s rock solid, i don’t feel like I would need any other rig anytime soon. This thing is really awesome

      I agee 100%! Got mine a little over a year ago as well. No regrets!
      I also have the triple monitor stand as well. Both have the lockable wheels and the rig itself also has the rubber feet.
