Casting silicone using 3D printed molds

  • I take you through the process of creating bicycle handle grips from silicone.
    Starting off from the mold design in CAD software, measuring volume of silicone we need, dying, loading the mold - vacuuming it etc, we end up with perfect handles in the end :)
    Mold is 3D printed in standard PLA, just 2 parts for this simple shape taking about 10 hours total to print.

      It would be the cheaper option for sure, but would it be the fun one?

    do you even need to drink it? hahaha, no mold release?

      Don't need to drink it, but it's good to stay hydrated haha. Silicone naturally does not stick to many substrates, PLA used here being one of them - so no need for release :)
