    I am absolutely loving this series. It is interesting to see which stories got adapted and which ones didn't

    The large object that Thomas rolls under before derailing in the illustration at 1:22 is a lifting hoist. Many locomotive sheds had a hoist, in order to lift a locomotive off it's wheels for minor repairs. This also explains the lack of buffers on the siding without it being brought up in the narration. The track showing a crossing gate behind it is supposed to be Toby's line going up to the Quarry, which bypasses the stationmaster's house. Also the episode cuts out the section of narration in the book where Thomas briefly struggles to conceal sneezing due to the tickly plaster on his nose. Regards, Samuel Farris.

    One minor but significant difference is in *Thomas Comes To Breakfast.* When Thomas tells the others that he's not scared he says "Pooh!" in the book but in the episode he says "Huh!" (or "Ha!"). The other instance where this change occurred was in *Ghost Train.*
    Similar changes occurred in *You Can't Win* and *Mavis.* Peter Sam and Mavis said "For crying out loud!" and "Fudge!" respectively. Both phrases were changed to "Fiddlesticks!" in the TV adaptations.

    One thing that you didn’t mention is the fact that in the RWS book, when Thomas is repaired from the accident in Thomas comes to Breakfast, his running board is changed from the normal curved design to flat and maintained it for the rest of the books, whereas on the show Thomas’s running board remains curved the whole run.

  • @terencewilliammckenna6121

    For their nameplates in the books, it’s obvious that Thomas’s accident occurred shortly before the Scottish twins got repainted blue probably for delays of delivering blue paint at the engine works at Crovan’s gate (if you’d ask me), and those nameplates on their smoke-boxes we’re just brief to still be told apart before they got new ones

    • @gregkiteos1936
      @gregkiteos1936 Před 3 lety +3

      That's right. I don't know why the Reverend wrote that; it's quite unusual for locomotives to have their names painted on them, although some tank engines do, like the LBSCR A1s and A1Xs (Stepney's basis).

    I should note that the illustrations in the story “Daisy” (at about 4:50) seem to depict Daisy with TWO faces, as in the illustration right before the one where she is looking at the milk van, her face was pointing AWAY from the van, and had a white headlamp, when looking at the van however, she appears to have a second face as she then has a red tail lamp. Whether or not this is an illustration error or not I don’t know, but if it isn’t, think of that…

    In the Railway Series story of ''Thomas Comes To Breakfast'' which the episode is based on, Thomas crashed into the stationmaster's house as a result of a siding ending on the road having no buffers to stop him, causing him to run off the rails and onto the road until he reached the house as shown in the illustration at 1:22 . This was not done in the episode adaptation due to the models heavily being powered by track, so the rails had to be led to the stationmaster's house as seen at 1:34
    However, the Ladybird and Buzz Book adaptations of this episode uses the original Railway Series dialogue. Is that worth noting?
