- UPDATE ON B16: A compression check was done and it was a solid 200psi on each cylinder. The smoke appears to be from leaky valve seals.
**NOTE: Battle starts at 1:36**
Battle of the two best 1.6 engines that rev past 8k rpms. Both cars were lightly tuned and well matched. The classic match up of 4a-ge vs b16!

both sound amazing in their own ways the 4AGE blacktop simply screams with its individual throttles while the B16a has a very unique intake sound found on the B series only
Bryan exactly! Two very different ways of making power and both sound fantastic.
Bryan the B16 is throatier
Finally someone very intelligent did a great video. By the way Toyota will last longer DOHC..
After delivering the Pizza, our Friend makes his way home. Suddenly, a Civic appears in the back and Flashes his Lights. Both drivers speed up. A Corner appears in the Distance and Eurobeat starts playing out of nowhere...
You guys, Ridge Chaser, and Haeeyy Productions are some of the very few channels that do stuff like this. No wiener sausage talk, no drag, mad pullz on the highway (br0), or stance; it's just cars like these simply having fun on the touge. You guys have definitely earned a sub!
Max Jarman Props to these guys for taking the time to set up all of the camera angles! I've subbed to them as well
hey im saying it now, this is one of the best edited armature touge runs ive seen
Thank you thank you, I try to edit in a way that it doesn’t linger too long on scenes. But it was really cool to have both these cars screaming through the touge.
I know Toyota and Honda are rivals, but I love both of them. I am a proud owner of a 1990 AE92 Trueno, but I love the EG6 just as much. I don't really take sides on car brands, I just take the side of MY car. I love Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, and Honda all equally :)
Prussian_Kamikaze where are you livin? Im searching for a ae92 trueno/levin for sale in europe but i just cant find this
I live on the East Coast of the US, between Philadelphia and New York City. I bought my car in Newark.
Me too
No, Toyota and Honda are not rivals. Honda is way superior.
First car was a Civic, Second was an AE111 and now I have a Mazda 3.
Also a big fan of Japanes cars.
That B16 need a ring seal/compression repair lol.
white smoke at b16
It's a Honda. They burn oil bud.
Sheehy no they don't bud
@@Sheehy223 definitely not the case
i might sound like a rookie but... although the civic guy was short shifting, there were drops of rpm´s and it didn´t seemed healthy
Yes! Great job, great video. Love the best motoring style.
wow, super enjoyable! die hard Honda fan here but that Toyota is straight mean compared to the b16! Both cars look & sound awesome! Really great video! Subbed!!
Jon Widmer thank you!
Jon Widmer almost anything is mean compared to a b16 lol
preludeF20Bking You got a point! lol
Both cars are very cool both with there own unique way, however jon widmer if there's a single motor known to be fast and dependable and produces 100hp/liter and has ability to rev to 8300 rpm and has been the motor that carried away performance bang for the buck sure isnt any motor you find in every compact car and surely isnt a 4age 20v,supercharged or original so before you hate on something because of its abilities choose wisely what your hating on .
This is not a fair comparison, should have been an Ef hatch
good to see the 4a come on top. but your friends b16 needs a rebuild, looking a bit tired.
The b16 was running too thin of an oil and it was a hot day which is why it was smokey, but it pulled hard all day and didn't miss a beat. My buddy is about to put a turbo on it and then we can redo the video. Thanks for the comment.
sushpants thanks for the reply. check out my mr2 on ny channel btw. running a silvertop. soon to get a rebuild this summer with a blacktop head. currentlyrunning a bt ecu.
sushpants did you turbo yours as well for a rematch maybe sometime in the future? Or you just stayin NA?
I'm staying NA. The original intention with my Corolla was to keep it light, simple and responsive. The 4age with itbs has turned out to be one of the most responsive engines I have ever driven and I want to keep it that way. That doesn't mean I'm not going to mod the engine. The 4age still has a lot potential while still being NA.
sushpants oh ok gotcha! Idk why but I am just a turbo junkie so if I did have one of these, I'd most likely Turbo it, but not for drag racing tho cuz that stuffs hecka played out and honestly it's boring.. I'd probably get around a good 285hp to 330hp with a small enough turbo to be able to have low end spool but while being able to let loose in the straights if I needed it.. and honestly, there aren't many turbo 4AGE cars out there if I'm correct, so that would also be a bonus since everyone keeps them NA.. But nonetheless, I like the ideas and stuff you got going and I admire you like NA cars cuz there's not as many now either! Welp, eirther way you have a cool car and I look forward to watching more of your vids! Keep up the good work my friend!
Edit and presentation were super nostalgic, absolutely love it. Made me smile! Nice work. Love both cars.
Been waiting for this.
Splendid work for a few guys who tried to make clear quality sounds!
Absolutely brilliant! Well put together, love your videos! You helped me when i was replacing my intake pulley on my blacktop! Very detailed! Thanks alot and keep them coming :)
Love the way you made this video. Enjoyed it very much!
Please keep on making vids sir. PLEASE. They're too good these!
I'm not talking about daily vids but masterpieces with time and love poured into them.
holy shoot that 4AGE 20V screaming like it saying "give me more fuel!" and the acceleration of your car is much better than your buddy EG6. Nice touch on the dash for the EG6. S2000 digital dash is really nice.
Only thing to do in the next video.
Initial D Duct tape death match!

I've got a 1993 RX7 FD and man I love my rotary, but this. This sound is perfection
RX7 Daily thanks! The next car I want to record is an RX7 FD.
sushpants haha well if I was near you man I would certainly let you. You obviously know what you're doing haha and my FD is my baby. I just rolled over 50k miles last week!
if you want real sounds find a BDA Escort
A Broke Discovery 2 Owner
I got to say I still preffer my FD over these and my Gc8 sti and my Del sol swaped jdm D16. Although. These are something I would love for my Sol to sound like.
Ur fd loses to my 94 targa supra🚬
The 4A-GE wins the sound test too! Great video.
someone has watched best motoring.... bloody great video
This re-creation of the Hot Version Touge Battle Stage is epic! Wish we had more people doing this, I would watch the shit out of it!
awesome video great car enthusiasm keep it up bro
I havent subscribed to anyone in over 2 years. I subbed on the editing of the video alone. Love the old 4a engines. Great Video
Thank you much! Hope you like the stuff I got coming out this year.
i like the formats of your videos; they are very cool and awesome
Thanks spiker! This one was really fun to make.
Awesome video, reminded me of a Best Motoring Video...keep up the good work, more videos like this would be greatly appreciated!
Best Motoring was the inspiration for this video! You can expect another video when another good match up happens :)
this channel a gem
holy shit, nice chassis pick for the 20v, very nice setup to go against the b16. keep it up!
one of the best na 4bangers ever made.
the music goes really well with this video. But big kudos for not having the music during the race! Another type of music to my ears.
That's some impressive video work!
Stan Pretetsky thank you Stan!
Yeah, totally. Wish I could see it in 60 fps though.
Fx16 Corolla was the first car I bought when i started driving. Nice to see some love for this sweet ride.
damn great job on the production quality of the video, subscribed :)
warracer03 thanks man!
It's a lot like these 90's japanese videos, i freaking love it!
Awesome video! Keep it up man.
Epic video! Love the styling of the video from the transitions to the music. Paying homage to japanese roots.
I love this! Both of them are so clean! The 4AGE sounds so amazing though, especially the blacktop. I can't wait to put one in my AE86, but I have the 4AC to at least putt around with until I get money for the swap.
MrSadOnion put a 3sge/gte
How’s that working for ya lol
@@josephjoestar5444 Incredibly late reply but I bought an S2000 instead lmao. The AE86 still has it's 4AC and still runs alright but she is rusty and I'm afraid of how much it's going to cost to restore properly.
This is so awesome! :D
Really hope to own a blacktop 20v one day. B16's are great and all, but the sound and response of the 4a-ge is just something else!
ok stock form they dont sound like this, this toyota sound like it has individual throttle bodies on the intake /.......4age comes in 16v which comes with this corolla fx gt.....then you get a 4age 20v silver to ,,,and a black top 4age 20v lightened conrods and flywheel but only 115kw.......front wheel drive only understeer and when u mod too much torque steer ........................but hey all are still slow , the game has moved on lol ,,,their handling sucks ...............Drive a 350z v6 ,any bmw rear drive 6 cylinder , and you wont look back .
I disagree! The 350z’s are fast but have pretty crummy throttle response with horrible rev hang. Both make for a “digital” experience. The beemers are a different animal, more focus on smoothness. Corolla, with that high strung 4age, is absolutely fantastic. Throttle response is hands down the best I have ever experienced. It’s very good on back roads.
@@sushpantswith your current setups whom u can race against
This is pretty well made for a channel I've never heard of
Verry cool vid man! and the road, omg she's beautiful ! and the car too of course :D
this is hot version all over again. Especially with those pointing sticks
Incredible video!
Phenomenal production value
Loved the video, first time seeing this. Thos editing style and content is just what we need so keep it up!
On the other hand, I didnt expect the b16 to get gapped that hard, but after seeing it smoke like a Cummins on a cold morning, I think we know why lol. No disrespect I run POS engines in my dailies BUT would love to see that Honda with a healthy engine pulling it. Cool stuff though will come back for more
Awesome vid man!
very nice! so cool with the best motoring flavor! keep it up!
Hot version inspired editing? It's pretty cool
Kieran Horner lol im 13 and i know what hot version is ...keichi boi
Damit you beat me to it
@@luk3800 yea lol i was just about to say this looks a lot like ae86 club vol 4
@@turbocavalli Kurosawa is the bigger deal
Awesome video !
Love the Hot Version Gran Turismo style editing, music. Super cool 👍👍👍
Thanks man, I want to redo it with all the mods the corolla has seen since this video.
Great sound from both cars.
Nice video! I love those roads!
Awesome video, keep up the great work!
I would definitely take on the AE82 in my NCP91, except that I’m stock so that 4AG would eat my lunch all day. Maybe someday.....
Until then, brilliant video. Really dig both those cars.
Awesome video I loved it!
best motoring video ae86 special intro (keiichi getting off his nsx to get on his ae86),i love that style too
Great video! No need to choose but to only appreciate such a beautiful era Japanese cars that are getting more rare everyday
I loved both of them! Each had its own awesome character.
@@sushpants most definitely! I have an ae92 levin which im currently swapping a 2zzge into. Time to revive the Honda beating days lol
Very Hot Version-esq editing (I like it)
Having never seen these two engines or platforms go head-to-head in real life before; my expectation was that the Honda with the B16 was gonna beat the pants of the 4A-GE equipped AE82.
I'm sure not just power figures played a factor here (it wasn't disclosed), I'm sure curbweight played a factor (my money would be on the AE82 being a couple hundred lbs lighter than the EG6 Civic).
Engine characteristics apparently played a large part...though I'm sure the AE82 was down probably twenty-five to thirty horse when compared to a cammed B16, the AE82's lighter weight paired with the more free-revving characteristics of the 4A-GE when compared to the B16 in the EG6 gave the Corolla a clear edge. It lent the car to better acceleration and a quicker recovery after braking zones.
This was highly entertaining. Thanks for the content bro
I’m in love with JDM cars when I’m 4 and now I’m 13 still doesn’t get old with this sound
Love it!! Keep doing it
Really nice video. Do more like this.
i own a fully modded ke70 4age 160hp

both are very beautiful
with this nicely shot video you bring back the good old days!!
dont let goof these cars !!
keep it up!!
BOTH sound amazing!!!
I'm a big Honda fan but I'm in love with the sound of the 4age. I remember my brothers friend having one in black about 20 years ago and my brother had the later ae92 version
Very well made video!
Such a awesome video editing was insanely good. Will say that eg's b16 looked a bit tired pissing out oil at WOT.
this is awesome! please make more vids, reminds me of BMI
Excelent video! Thank you!
Thanks! This video was one of my favorites to put together.
Hey guys I really digged the video touge fell all day thanks for the video I see GBH also replied what a great time we are in so many channels can express there views p.s love GBH as well
couldn't help but play initial d eurobeat in the background. awesome video
both sound AMAZING
Wow! This video definitely brings back memories. I had the exact same Corolla FX-16 GT-S in the same color. The only exterior difference is I had the stock Toyota gray alloy wheels which were the same on my MR2. Mine was fully loaded having power windows, power locks and power sunroof w/wind deflector which I still have not seen ever again. Although, I would have never hit 8,000 rpm. I drove it hard and long until the original engine died at 254,548 miles. Then I sold it to a buyer whose Toyota was totalled with the exact same engine in good condition to drop in. In my opinion, the engine is what made the Corolla FX-16 GT-S so remarkable. Those were the days.
I like how you swapped the dash for an s2000 dash. :D Slick!
They are both winners.. Brings me back to old skool those sounds
You lucky bastard that FX-16 GTS was THE ride I wanted back in the early 90s but I could not afford it, and now you find them LUCKY YOU, nice ride guy.
awesome video please make more! 4AGE ftw!
Loving the Best motoring feeling : )
What a great vid both my favs I’m a sneak Toyota fan even though I’m
A Honda guy just love Japanese cars
This is awesome. Love the mighty 4age.
Both cars sounds amazing
Do more of this stuff man!
Loving the Hot Version styling.
this is nice you can now join greatest drag race on top gear!
Love the hot version style filming lol
Exelent edición del vídeo. Tenga que decir que llevo toda la vida trabajando en motores honda. Pero me ha gustado mucho como estira de revoluciones el Toyota. En hora buena.
Muchas Gracias!
This sounds fucking amazing!
I personally think that the engines itself aren't what's determining the outcome of this race. They should be closely matched; these races indicate a decisive victory for the Corolla. I believe there might be a big difference in gearing. If you look at the eg6 it was coming out of VTEC or just in VTEC but clearly out of the power band when shifting, indicating that it had longer gear ratios. The corolla on the other hand was at least 500rpm higher during its shifting so that means it would have had crossed gear ratios, effectively staying within its powerband during the upshift. This has a lot to do with the car's performance especially on an uphill climb or acceleration on a straight.
agreed
Or just a shitty driver that shifts like his arms and legs responds several hours after the brain sent the signals
If the civic guy used an EM1 drivetrain than his 5 speed is geared pretty good they’re known for short gears and the blacktop has a close ratio 6 speed (I own one) but the gears aren’t ridiculous just the powerband is wayyyy wider than the b16 vtec spot (I’ve driven and raced both) I still love vtec
Weight is also a big factor, I think. Pretty sure the EG is heavier than the AE82, put the B16 in say a CRX or EF hatch and the races would’ve been much closer. Both cars are great though.
very nice tōg!
The Toyota driver really knows how to drive his car. Such a beautiful video
S2K dash? Sick
Bru wtf nice video editing, i like it giving it sum old skool Best Motoring style 👌 I’d like yo be in touge battles I got Civic Si 2007 FA5
I also like both and I own a EG6,I like the digital speedometer & revlimiter
Both “slow” both heaps of fun!
the sound its amazing
Great video! I had my money on the Toyota all along :)
4A-GE Sounds fantastic 👌
Kool vid haha.. that toyota runs good but that b16 still needs more juice out of it.not running like it should. Keep making more vids guys!
Love that GT-S. Still looking for a silver one to go along with my MR2.
Sorry to say but the civic driver sucks... cars maybe matched but the driver skill isn't, civic driver kept changing out of vtec and short shifting. Both amazing cars and engines but need a better driver for this test.
Mish Domingo.. i agree.. it depends on the driver too..
I agree, this battle would’ve been a lot more intense if the B16 driver were to be a little bit more skilled. Coming from a 4AG fan
I've had both - the civic wins every time - in std form. 4age vs b16a both had same number of valves tho :P
Have to agree with others your buddy wasn't as committed - considering his setup he has no reason to pussy lift on those cnrs - still enjoyed :)
Mish Domingo the civic driver can be a bit in a disadvantage compared to the corolla driver in attacking the curves. But you don't need much skill in a straight line acceleration as you can clearly see the 4age has the net power advantage over the B16 in this match.
There's is no way a 4age is on par with Vtec. Depends on the car a b16a will always be faster in a straight line.
SKAGGs!
My favorite piece of road in the 707
[ *COOL VIBRATIONS* ]
Both cars sound great, but that Toyota just howls, especially when grabbing the next gear... What a sound!!
Two 4cyl screamers battling it out? Yes please.
The two iconic 4 Bangers shit that's beautiful
More of a Honda guy myself, but JESUS that 4A makes some of the best noises of any engine, ever.
