Fareed Zakaria is one of the smartest and most eloquent people in the media. He always has a broad and historical perspective, as well as a positive outlook. Thank you Mr. Zakaria for your work.
I'm a lifelong student of history, and have been learning about it since the time I could first read, more than fifty years ago. But I've never spent a more thought-provoking and fascinating half-hour than I just did listening to Fareed and Rick (and could easily spend an hour more). I liked Fareed before. Now I'm a bona-fide fan.
Fareed is the most intelligent person I have read and listened to, who explains what is going on in the world, making it easy to explain

But Trump's level is that of a toddler, not a focused authoritarian thinker.
An American is an American not because of where they were born, but because of what they become.

In the sixties people on the street would be presented with excerpts from the Declaration and the Constitution. Frequent responses were "Sounds like radical BS to me!" In more modern times about 70% of American adults can't find Europe on a world map. The Republic has always hung by a thread...

Me too. I was born two weeks after JFK took his oath. Looking back, I can hardly believe all the changes I've seen our country go through, especially politically.

I am currently halfway through this book. I find it quite fascinating and informative. I am also relieved that we have been through things like the present situation, and we will get through this current crisis. As a believer in Christianity, not Christian nationalist, whatever that means, ultimately God wins in the end, and no one escapes his judgements, not even Donald Trump.
