I appreciate how the players in the playoffs aren't just generic mooks, they actually look like the teams the Celtics/Lakers beat, even though they're only on screen for like a second. The chubby mustache guy is Jeff Ruland, the shaggy blond Dallas point guard is Brad Davis, Marques Johnson looks like Marques Johnson, etc.
That motherfucker they hired to play James Worthy looked just like him.
Too bad the facts of the series are actually wrong and sensationalized
Ruland was known as the dirtiest player in the game

Honestly, the show sucks. I tried to get into it but it’s just not worth the investment. Sure, the clips of basketball sequences are very cool with them highlighting all the players from that era but the truth is these scenes make up only a very small part of the series. Most of the show delves into the Buss family and the relationship between Jerry and Jeanie Buss and the other children, and Jerry Buss and his love interests. It’s slow and boring and takes up way too much time. Also, none of it is interesting.

I'm not a basketball fan by any means but I thought his whole show (S1 and S2) was awesome! This scene here is by far my all time favorite for some reason. Happy to find it here. Thanks!
Just imagine this show, but instead of the drama is just SLAM DUNK live action. Thats a 10/10

There have been many NBA legends that in their entire NBA careers had never had the chance to play in the NBA Championship like Bob Lanier, Dave Bing, "Pistol" Pete Maravich, Connie Hawkins and Lou Hudson to name a few.
At least Hawkins did win an ABA championship in 1968.

I didn't know it had a season 2. I think that is the reason for the cancellation. No one knew, at least not nearly as many who knew season 1 was on its way

Magic, Kareem, Jamaal Wilkes, Cooper, Norm Nixon was the best lineup they ever had in my worthless opinion.
My only gripe with this show is them incorporating today's slang into dialect from 1981. No one was screaming "Let's gooo" at the top of their lungs or saying "I gotchoo" back then. Other than that, loved most of the characters (didn't care about Cookie) and loved the way it was filmed.
What would they have said instead? I was a kid in the 80s and I wasn’t able to catch that error like you did.

Nice detail: the Lakers play on the left side of the court, the Celtics on the right side. This is a reversal of the old filmmaking trick - the antagonists come from the left, and the protagonists on the right.

Even thought it was Bird v. Magic, I'm not surprised it was canceled! Not easy to transition a real-life sports rivalry into a TV series with appeal beyond the sport. Even when taking liberties with some real-life scenes to snag the average, non-sports viewer.
Also in this video, the Kings were referred to as the Kansas City Kings and not Sacramento until the 1985-1986 season.

First of all, that game between the Lakers and the Jazz where Kareem Abdul-Jabbar broke Wilt's scoring record was at UNLV. Second during this sequence, Larry Bird in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals was having huge problems with Bernard King and the New York Knicks and it took seven games to send Bernard King and the Knicks on summer vacation. Third, a new enemy of the Detroit Pistons was starting their rise (we will see Showtime vs. Motor City Madness later).
If magic didn’t clap so much I would watch this with my parents but then again somehow it’s cancelled

There is a reason that the director of Hoosiers hired basketball players, not actors, and limited their dialogue. It's tough to for actors to--as you say--replicate the fluidity of professional athletes. Have you seen Tim Robbins in Bull Durham?
Use 80s music ,there is a ton thats more than adequate, instead we get 60s and 70s same 15 or songs used ,this music doesnt fit for the time, this is Magics Lakers vs Birds Celtics ,the epitome of ,a main cog of 80s history, use the music of that decade, i mean whats next ,same ole stones ,moody blues, Doors etc. I love those bands but let them represent their time, i know its a wierd complaint but really get sick of the same boomer songs ,this is Gen X time and the tunes are just as good but with even more diversity, hell i say from the Police to Metallica to NWA and Run DMC to 80s VanHalen and AC/DC and even the New Wave crap a lot to choose from and no reaching into the grundge ,the lazy gen x music yet either,thats another rant
