Cycling Solo the Silk Road on a Gravel Bike : 12,000km and 18 countries

- At the beginning of 2022 I cycled the Silk Road solo with a Cube Nuroad Pro. This 4 months journey of 12,000 km took me through 18 counties between Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.
Amongst other things, I crossed the Alps in winter, rode along the Syrian and Iraqi borders in Kurdistan, entered Iran in time of Ramadan and cycled the Pamir Highway, the 2nd highest road in the world (highest point 4,655m).

Amazingly this guy was never a cyclist before the trip, but he became a cyclist on the trip.

I've read your comment before watching the video, the first thought in my mind, have been a cyclist for decades, was... how on Earth did his knee hold up? It is too much for someone who doesn't have the tendons or muscles to protect it. I hope he used a splint or was someone who worked out legs a lot, otherwise I see knee problems on the horizon.... I am writing this 2:20 when he talks about those knee problems.
Cycling this much is not for everyone.

@@ilyauneroute8944 Hi , it is all about progressions. A rule that is valid for all areas of physical activities. Before you try anything with your body, make sure you are comfortable with the previous progression. Our minds can cope with a lot and pretty fast, but our bodies, muscles and most of all tendons need quite some time to adapt to a new task. You can do it without training the progressions but you run a very high risk of a serious injury.
Imagine how much better and more tolerable people would be if they did these sorts of things. Great video. Much respect.

Ibrahim Malouf was so perfect there! It's really funny becasue a few years ago, during my first solo cycling trip I used to listen to him as well! I was also cycling for an entire year, including winter in europe, totally unsupported. It was an overwhelming experience that changed me forever. Loved your video, it brought many memories to my mind.

Beautiful scenery, I admire your courage first for the impressive journey, second for having the patience to film all of it, despite how annoying sometimes this can be, to stop, film, go back start again.. Then third for doing this in the winter!! This is insane my friend, shorter days and freezing temperature gave you some more of a challenge during the process. My biggest respect goes to you.
