My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

One thing I like to do that helps in removing spark plug boots is to squeeze a small amount of dielectric grease in the boot it helps keep the boot from sticking to the insulator and helps to remove it after use. Just a little tip. Thanks for the great vids!!
That's a great tip, dielectric grease is such a handy thing. It works for so many things like spark plug boots. I use it for so many fixes. I even repaired some quick disconnect audio snakes a while back with it
Die, electric grease, die!
Die electric grease isn't conductive. You're actually blocking electric current when you use it.
@@dylanneal6363 you only put it on the rubber of the boot in small amounts, not gooped all over the mechanical conductive components like the top of the spark plug. Even if you did do that it's not really going to be a huge issue. Everything within reason
I use it on all electronics, you see it on CPU connections my old boss @ a marine service co. told me to take it home or get fired! It would ruin his repeat business as I was a marine motorsports tech. school trained.
As I get older (80) my short term memory decided to retire too, so I always take a picture of each disassembly step, it reduces time spent looking at a parts list. Carburetor fuel hoses have tripped me up more than once. Bre, I always learn something from your videos.
Thank you for great teaching and tips! Short videos often are great. Your in depth videos are terrific. Stay “on the air”!!
Lol dropping little parts is my specialty. Getting old and give’s me lots of new challenges. Thank you for sharing. ❤
I was recently told that getting old isn't for the feint of heart. I think they were right about that. Hang in there .
The parts always seem to hide under something fast away too
I'm fixing to start my own small engine repair business. I find your videos so informative. I have 34 years experience as a mechanic, but I try to never stop learning. Thank you for your content!
DIELECTRIC GREASE!
I always use it and it prevents corrosion, makes the connection water resistant and prevents the rubber boot from sticking to the plug.
Watching you do your repairs is sooo therapeutic! I believe you truly help my blood pressure. Greetings from Oklahoma
It really is! I know this stuff, but it's so calming to watch a non-pretentious female with a great attitude, do these repairs. Putting yourself out on CZcams like this is like jumping into a lion's pit. I really admire her.
@@mizzouxc3824 65 and could still stomp your ARss walking, running buck and chopping wood. Smart ass.
Couldn't said that better. Love watching her.
I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. czcams.com/users/postUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.
Love your videos! Always something for me to learn. Thank you! BTW…we just had our Corvette Weekend in Ocean City, MD. It’s a big fundraiser for charity as well.
Your short videos provide a little bit of knowledge and that knowledge all adds up to a lot of knowledge. From a previous videos I learned and have been very careful removing boots ever since. None of these plug removals have involved your type machines but that doesn't matter, it is the concept I learned from you. Thanks.
Good video. Makes me happy to see someone else sitting at the workbench. With my back problems I can’t stand for more than a few minutes. Keep up the great videos.
Hello Bre, I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate and enjoy your videos. I have taken a home study course on small engine repair and I always like to learn more about the process. You always give me a few good tips and that helps me out. Keep the videos coming and I’ll keep watching. You have a Blessed Day.
I'm always impressed with how you find and fix problems in 15 minutes that the rest of us would be searching for all day. Shows you the difference experience makes.
It's actually just really looking...
some people just don't even try and would rather just throw money at someone to look at simple things for them...
Yeah, if you can't diagnose and fix a simple small engine , the problem is you
Love your videos you’ve helped me a lot on the fuel I had a whole 15 L still didn’t wanna run my guess and sit around for a while ran great and then my other equipment so I got the mechanic in a bottle let that sit in for a few days went and got fresh gas started running and as I brought it up to temperature he got better and better so thanks for the tips
is it amazing how customers can "fix" a unit.....I did shop repairs for 45 years......and there was always a "new one"....to experience...Thoroughly enjoy You , and your videos. Thanks
I really enjoy your clrar and complete presentations of the work that you do on the machines. Thank you most sincerely. PNH
Thanks for the reminder. I bought a couple pieces of new equipment this year, and I need to put some dielectric grease into the plug boots to help keep them from getting stuck. I bought an Echo tiller and an echo backpack blower. Both are great machines. My only complaint is that the air filter is no good on the tiller. Lots of dirt gets past it because the housing design doesn't allow the edges of the filter element to seal up properly.
Great video, my BR600 backpack blower had a real bad oil leak where the bottom of the crankcase seals and also one of the oil seals was leaking so I had to re-seal the engine block and installed 2 new oil seals and she runs like a champ now! Probably needed re-sealed because I bought it used at a steal from a lawn care service because it needed work so it was used commercially so it's probably got some hours on it. Keep up the awesome videos!
Your small engine mechanic skills are amazing.
I'm not particularly interested in small engine repairs but nevertheless, I enjoy watching these. Thanks for the video Brean!
I love that you’re a corvette lady , I have a 2016 myself . I love the channel , learn something every episode .
Not sure if that coil is one but some Stihl coils actually allow you to replace the spark plug wire by unscrewing it from the coil. It requires a special diameter wire and it has a brass stud threaded much like a wood screw sticking up inside the coil terminal onto which you simply screw the new wire. If you now consider that old coil junk you might want to try to unscrew the wire to see if that coil works that way.
I'm with you on the NGK plugs. Another great video !!
Thank you for your videos! I don’t do near what you do! I do more of the yard work side: taking the severely wrecked or neglected yard and bring it back to speed. I do very simple stuff on equipment in my free time and thoroughly enjoy your videos. I don’t know if I’d try everything myself that you show, but I learn a lot & get enjoyment from them. Thank you!
I always prefer when a customer is at least honest about their attempts to repair. A bag of parts, is usually a great indicator of previous tampering? Great advice on the fuel ma'am!
Great video Bree, I’ve also seen this happen many times, another thing I’ve seen is when putting orange cover on one of the three spacer washers under the recoil will get magnetized and fall out of cover and stick to flywheel, which will usually ruin the flywheel and sometimes coil. I worked for a landscape company on their small engines and we had around forty backpack blowers in fleet.
Totally! They should have made them out of brass or something non ferrous.
Always educational AND fun 😊 just the greatest 😊❤️
I'm always learning something new from your videos.
Good to know about that spark plug boot. The mower that I bought a couple seasons ago, has a boot that I have not taken off yet, as it doesn't come off as easily as they use to, and the manual included with it is little help. Just glad that I resisted the urge to use brute strength and tug it. This video shows me how to take it off properly.
I wish i would've seen this video before repairing my plug wire. I did exactly what you said, I wrapped the cord on the metal piece but it left a bulge that broke through the boot. One day while running it all sweaty, my elbow came in contact with the broken boot while it was on😂, I got a taste of Ole Sparky through my whole body. Needless to say I sent it in for a new boot and a tune up and she is running like a champ. 20 years with my Stihl weedeater and she is as strong as the day I purchased her. I haven't adjusted any valves though, might be a good future video for you.
I have the BR600 Magnum model and it's way oversized for my property (now). You can actually feel the engine torquing on your back while reving up. I can only imagine what these 700 and 800 Magnum models can do now!
Very enjoyable video with breakfast this morning. Thank you from Florida.
Really interesting video. I stared taking plenty of pics when taking things apart it really helps lol. Sorry about the vet show y'all will knock them out next year!!!!!!
Great video. It perfectly illustrates the 1st rule of DIY: Don't break anything, trying to 'fix things'.
Always interesting and informative content. Thank you.
I have the BR600. I was not aware of any valve adjustment. Will have to look in to that. I've done normal tune upp stuff with the plug, filters, and cleaning the exhaust screen. Very impressed with Stihl. Thanks for the great content
Sure looked like a 2-cycle head and cylinder to me. Tried to look it up and am confused about the 4-mix engine description of possibly being 4-cycle using 2-cycle oil.
@@jamesrichardson559 I fly RC planes, and there are 4 cycle engines that use oil mix fuel, but it has to be 20-25:1 ratio, those small engines don't have an oil pump or sump so you have to mix the gas. The mechanical valve train requires the high oil to gas ratio, however the engine in that blower looks like a 2 cycle engine which typically has non adjustable reed valves, so not sure about the Stihl.
@@parrishpatterson6780 My son has RC planes and cars. With lawn equipment the government is pushing emission control. The advantage of a 4 stroke that required a 50:1 gas oil mixture over a 50:1 2 stroke engine would seem small. Somewhat better combustion and no blow through the exhaust port I guess. I would take the 2 stroke hands down. Twenty years ago when Lawn Boy phased out 2 stroke engines I purchased 2 new in box silver series mowers on clearance. They are still in the boxes. One of the most durable mower engines made. Have a 30 year old one that I still use. I will pass the new Lawn Boys on to my sons.
@@jamesrichardson559 I had a 2 stroke Lawnboy also and loved it, the only reason I sold it was because parts were getting hard to come by
This is a 4 mix. It is a 4-stroke that uses pre-mix instead of a crankcase with oil. Valves need to be adjusted to .006" intake and exhaust.
10 days last week that is so funny LOL!!! Before I retired I had days that seemed like they lasted a week long...Most of them were 16 hours long. Another great video full of knowledge. Thank you!!
Just discovered your channel today, watched a lot of videos... what caught my eye was the rear quarter panel with a "Cougar" emblem! Caught a glimpse of the front in another video... so cool! Find your videos fascinating... as a typical semi-rural homeowner, have gone through chainsaws, push mowers, snow blowers, weed trimmers, riding mower and a couple of generators... seem to learn something new every video I watch!
I truly love your channel, instead of all the demo, just hit the spark aresstor with CRC brake cleaner, non flamablel ,cleans the areestor completleys
I just purchased a Stihl 800 Side pull today because of you, my Yard is not that big😂😅, I'm going to love it with all my heart! I did exactly this repair on my weedeater, I kept getting electrocuted when it rained, so I took her in and had her redone completely. New everything.😅 No more shocks, I love watching your videos! Big fan, Branson in Miami! Are those Stihl tools, I'm kind of a Stihl fanatic, not sure why! I wear a uniform to work. My Stihl wouldn't run with that fuel either.
I wish it needed a value adjustment. I have one that from every indication needs its values adjusted, I would have loved watching you showing how it's done. I love your videos and I've learned so much from them. I've been able to repair several things I would have never even tried before. Thank you!
I did a video on the Stihl trimmer valve adjustment. It is the same principle and should help you.
@@Chickanic Found it, Thanks. Where in Ark. are you? I'm just south of Little Rock
I am happy I learn something in every video.
Retired aircraft engine mechanic of fifty years experience plus schools. I always use dielectric grease on the spark plug leads and various electrical connections around the engines.
Thanks for the information and video. Now I know something about this model blower.
You always put out great videos.I enjoy them thanks.
Alaska Homesteader here... I enjoy watching your videos. I also confirm your opinion about fuel testing using two individual Stihl 260 PRO chainsaws. I noticed a significant decrease in power when using True Fuels (Lowes). I now only use Stihl or Husquarrva premix or mix my own. After cutting 8 cords of firewood this fall - both saws running strong.
You can mix your own. Alaska sells real gasoline. No ethanol.
I have many Stihl tools, like everything else they aren’t made like the old ones. I have a BR320 that keeps running bought back in the 90’s. Put on a new carb in 2015, as it was all gummed up from ethanol. Have run Trufuel ever since in all my 2cycle equipment. Have not had an issue with it.
As much as we may like spending time with you, short videos are a good thing and few people master that skill.
Have a good week.
That is a nice lookin' Vet ya got there girl ... My neighbor has a C2 split window AND an old '69 manta ray !!!!
What a treasure! Thank you Chickanic!
Thanks for posting such good videos!
But thank you for your videos even though that was a short fix still nice to know that if you put things together wrong it will cause you a problem very nicely done thank you
Nice Vette! I had a 75 same exact colour with black interior and a 383 Stroker under the hood .
Not sure about the Hippa spark plugs but they are my go to place for two stroke carburetors. Never received a bad one.
Thanks for your help
Awesome video! Love to see you making more content!👍🏻👍🏻
Good Saturday morning Chicanic. Excellent video as always. But that's of course to be expected from a talented mechanically inclined woman such as yourself. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend. 😎😎
I've lengthened a coil lead before by cutting the head off a self tapper and using it to screw the 2 leads together. I sealed it with rtv sealant and covered it with shrink sleeving.
It's a bit "Mcgyver" and probably not suitable for a customer but at £150 for a replacement I'd do it on one of my own machines.
The hedgetrimmer I did this repair to is still going strong more than 10 years later!
I had to watch your video on marine 2 cycle oil. Changed my mind when I watched your video. I'm gonna use marine 2 cycle oil from now on. The comment by an oil engineer changed my mind. Only differences is the ash content in 2 cycle air cooled engine oil. Cheers from eastern TN
Our favorite cute little fixer! 🐥
Hi great video Mam learn something everyday! Thanks 👍👍😃
I got a br600 given to I from a customer since the costumer did not want to fix it, needed cam gear push rods and rocker arms also put new fuel lines on it and fan nut broke when removing it flywheel was shared as well, I spent 280.00 Canadian and repaired it for home use started first pull after sitting all summer
Always love your videos !!!
Thanks Bre well done 👍❤️ it.
Yeah I had trouble with trufuel I'll never use that again thanks for doing the video
I use what Stihl recommends in their owner's manual for their equipment. And I have a 20+ year old Stihl trimmer that to this day still runs like it was a new one.
Good job Bree. You looked great!
Thank you, excellant video.
I just recently found your channel. I have to admit that when I first saw the name I thought to myself: Oh, no. Another woman trying to get attention on YT. Well, first, I apologize for my male chauvinistic attitude and, second, you really know your stuff. I have watched a few of your videos and just sat down with my morning coffee to watch some more. I'm a 70 year old retired trucker and just found out that you can teach an old dog new tricks. I'm now a new humbled subscriber. Thanks!
I debated on canned fuel, but I just feel safer mixing my own. I shy away from ethanol and also mix in toluene for octane. Using echo red armor religiously. Runs great.
Respectfully, you are a badass!!! I see this more than you think. And great call on the NGK plug. Best plug on the market for small engine equipment.
Aw! Thanks!
This is why I watch Chickanic. I’m just smart enough to screw it up. And over look the screw up. Now if I can just get my husqavarna yard tractor to start. Was working, then white smoke, now not working.
🍀Keep up your great work it is very much appreciated, Thank you. 🍀
10 days this past week!! You need to talk to my 4yr old--ha! Thanks Jim
As always, a great video Chickanic
What a sick design.... never expected this from Germany...
Thanks!
Thanks much Michael!
Wow you are very generous. Currently a 150 British pounds is equal to179.00 in US dollar. You should have charged them half (89.50) instead of $40. They still would have been happy with the savings. Thank you for explaining how to remove the cap on a spark plug, they make those things so tight it's almost impossible to get off.👍👍
10/26/22 - I love your manner of presenting. You're so confident in a non-tradtional role. Does your husband cook or iron (LOL)? Please don't stop making these, they're great!
Actually, he is a chef! Making us Italian tonight! LOL! I clean everything though. A fair trade if you see the kitchen when he's done. LOL
@@Chickanic Funny, you don't look Italian in the daytime.
Those canned fuels are so expensive...I go to the local small airport and by AvGas (Lead and no ethanol) for my older equipment and MoGas (unleaded and no ethanol) for newer equipment. As always, great content C
Yeah I would say from the deep pinchmark on that little plug wire it was sending all of it's spark juices into the piston via the cooling fan
😅👍
You mean that the cheap homemade electricity wouldn't jump that far? I am shocked (pun intended).
It would be really nice to have all of the tools that you have available!
Love watching your videos all the best from Dave in London England 🏴👍
Merry CHRISTmas mechanic chick lady!
Another great video. Love your channel
Poor Corvette Brean, sorry to hear of your troubles, along with the spark plug cap .I can only think they make them like this to stop them EVER coming off 😊.
I use a trace of Dow Corning MS4 silicon compound on my plug insulator to stop the cap sticking to the insulator and its worked for me OK.
If they ever make a Corvette in RHD, .....😊
.
Good video, thx chicanic. :). keep 'em coming.
yup sometimes life just doesn't go the way you hoped it would. You figured it would be a fuel video...he thought he could do s homr repair. ;-)
I could see the customer putting the wire under that plastic piece...even if it wasn't cut too short.
Thanks for the informative video...yet again.
OH...and thanks for helping me explain to my wife why I keep old parts...lol.
Cheers from New Brunswick, Canada...eh.
Love your videos
I try to watch all.
Have you ever done a video on servicing or repairing
Hydrostatic lawn tractor drives ?
Awesome video as always ❤!
Thanks you Chick.🇺🇲🇺🇲
Love the 4 mix
Hello Bre. I am a firm believer in the NGK spark plugs and have them in just about all of my small engine stuff.
I wonder if the HIPA spark plug is nothing more than one of the junky Torch spark plugs.
I had a cast iron 16 hp Briggs&Stratton engine that the coil wire had a burned spot where it made contact with the cylinder head in which I used a section of the adhesive heat shrink tubing that worked pretty well for me. Unfortunately I don’t think that my fix would work in situations where there are space constraints or a need for flexibility.
I don’t know about that tru fuel never used it. Always just mixed my own, can’t get no ethanol in my area ( metro Detroit) . I use premium and Marine grade two cycle oil, a splash of Startron enzyme fuel treatment. I never keep fuel over a year. I’ll pour it into my Jeep and get new when it’s a year old
Respect from Oshawa Canada.
Nice fix 👍👍
Awesome videos 🇺🇸
⭐️ it makes the job easyer if you get the true storry from your customers, but we know that is not allways the case
