5 Easy Ways to Make a Great Cup of Coffee at Camp
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 14. 07. 2024
- I love the aroma of a nice cup of coffee early in the morning at camp, and over the years I've tried a few brewing methods that have worked well outdoors. In this video I share with you 5 ways I use to get my caffeine fix. While there are some out there that like to make a science project out of their coffee brew, for me, I like it to be simple, quick, light weight and easy to clean up.

There's no better alarm than a coffee grinder! come on!!
LOL!!!!
Spoken like a true friend.
Coffee grinder alarm clock sound.
Lol he says knowing that he'll kill Brad if he does it
TrailRecon if I am currently an E3 Offroad member is it possible to switch over my membership to the overland?
5 ways to make coffee at camp
1) AeroPress
2) AeroPress
3) AeroPress
4) AeroPress
5) AeroPress
In all seriousness, match the grind to your brew method. This is THE most important factor in brewing coffee.
I use AeroPress for myself, if I'm making for more than one, I use a GSI pour over kit.
What about the AeroPress?
Brian Jones itâs almost as good as the AeroPress. But for me, I prefer the AeroPress.
@@MrJamesLuz So should I order the AeroPress or the AeroPress?
@@Wrangzilla Personally, I'd go for the AeroPress over the AeroPress
Bialetti anyone? Our favorite since decades.Glad to hear your son is back home and safe.
Nothing like a good cup of Joe while on the trail. Thanks Brad
You said it! đ
Tsar Trail nothing like a good cup of joe anywhere, anytime. Lol
@@kbe0530 good call!
The smell of coffee in the mountains is sooooo good.
After 35+ years of overlanding, I have to go with the Aeropress. It does require a little round paper filter and it only makes a single cup, but the clean-up only takes a few seconds and I can control the strength of every cup.
Surprised the Aeropress didnât make the list.
Thanks for the great video. But the most important part is when you notice your excitement that your child is present and helping you make the video. Living these experiences as a family is the most important thing in life. Congratulations.
Absolutely!
Percolated coffee really just hits different. I put it through a mesh filter after brewing to make it super smooth, and oh man it's good.
Instant coffee has improved a lot - couple brands just require boiling water & done deal. Thatâs just me - works fine. Less gear & less drama. Love your videos.đđ»
There are some really good instant coffees out there. Not my first choice but I always have a jar of instant as my backup.
What are the good ones? Havenât found one that doesnât stinkâŠ
Welcome home Jordan, and thank you both for your service. Very excited for you to get your Jeep, can't wait to see the video and what you pick! I just traded my '02 TJ for a '16 75th Anniversary JKU, Sarge Green. Love it!
I've been using the Coleman drip for about 15 years. Works great.
It's come in handy several times at home when the power went out.
trailrecon never disappoints with the videos! Just what I was looking for to decide what I want to bring to camp to get the morning started right
I grew up when the percolator was the only means that I knew of that I saw my dad and uncle and all their sisters make coffee with, and they were all big, big coffee drinkers, and it taste different from straining it through an electric coffee maker much like the Coleman you have here. I don't know what it is about the percolator, but it makes the coffee taste so much different! I've never even seen the French Press until seeing it in some of your videos. I think one of the things about the electric coffee makers is the timers. People could set a time early in the morning for it to start brewing, just before getting up in the morning, so it is ready to go, especially for people who want to rest a few extra minutes and still have coffee for their drive to work! I personally have never been a big coffee drinker, but my dad and all my aunts and uncle were! I do like the smell of coffee being brewed! It's pretty satisfying just to smell coffee being brewed! It must be pretty popular here in Oklahoma, because Lowe's and Wal-Mart have all kinds of selections or different kinds of percolators! It's always nice to smell coffee in the morning! Kind of like a wood camp fire! The smell of some Oak or Pecan or Maple burning is pretty satisfying when you are around it to stay warm!
I love how you share your joy for coffee without being obnoxious! I love it and coffee!
Always a great way to start a day, Thanks for the tips
Nothing better in life than morning coffee at camp. Awesome to see im not the only one that enjoys this. Love your videos brad. Keep up the good work!
Brad! Another homerun of a video! Youâre killing me! Iâm gonna go make some coffee right now just so I can have the same aroma as I watch this video again! Keep up the great work - always impressive!
Thank you!
FOR COFFEE LOVERS, the day doesn't just begin with a good, hot cup of coffee-it seems almost impossible without it. It's not only the dose of caffeine that does the trick, although that does help. It's also the ritual that surrounds it-the smell, the sound, even the wait are all a part of how coffee gets the day started right.
Very cool! I'm interested for sure. Can't wait to go out camping again with you guys again. Such a blast.
Heck ya, canât wait until next time!
I've been waiting for this one
Love Black Rifle Coffee!!
E3 Overland EAST?
Boil water in coffee pot, add coffee, let it steep for a few minutes. Pick up coffee pot, windmill it 5 or 6 times. Gently pour it into cup, not to disturb the grounds. Now you've got you a genuine cup of cowboy coffee.
Just a splash of cold water just before serving will knock down the grounds to the bottom of the pot!!
Oh, and just like gramma did, just a pinch of salt before boiling too.
best part about your videos I keep going back for refreshers and or when I look for something specific!
I prefer Cowboy coffee, hot water in pour in coffee grounds, Boil to a rolling boil for 4 minutes turn heat off proud cold water in spout and center of pot. The cold water will drive the grounds to the bottom ....best coffee for easy out door cooking although I make mine ever other morning , nothing wrong with day old coffee just heat up. Cowboys been drinking that kind of coffee for year and still do. Donât need no stinking coffee maker ...lol Poppa Jones , Scottsdale Arizona
Hell yeah ! Cowboy Coffee is the best !đâ
Oh yeah.... kent rollins style! Don't want it any other way!
Iâve tried cowboy coffee once and it was too strong for my liking and I like it strong. I think I need to give it another try.
Love the simplicity of cowboy coffee. No extra gadgets. If it's too strong, just back off on the "dosage". Surprisingly enough, I was using Starbucks breakfast blend , but went back to Folger's classic and love it even MORE!
Joe , I use Folgers., the old Cowboys used Arbuckleâs Beans and ground them on the trail. You can still buy Arbuckles online
I'm with you Brad. I served in the Army, I still wake up at 5:30am even on my days off. I suffered through a lot of Army coffee but I can't start my day off without a good cup of medium to dark roast.
Thank you for your service â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Funny, sounds like poor Army coffee turned a lot of you into coffee connoisseurs, seen this comment a lot.

Percolator had always been my go to. Not having to worry about damaging anything offroad and makes a great brew!
Congrats ahead of time on new jeep excited to see what route you go
My son is beyond excited to get the keys to his soon to be new Jeep!
Thanks for sharing!
Percolator is what I use for camping too. But now that I have a jeep that Coleman looks pretty cool never seen that before. đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»
Great tips for getting started in the morning. Thank you.
I'm always learning something new on this channel. Great video.
Bialetti moka express with espresso coffee. That's the way I roll. Nice vid!
I love coffee and I enjoyed the ways to make a perfect coffee. Really good video Brad and thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Instant is the way to go. Love it out on the trail
Served aboard the USS Ranger CV-61 in the late 60's & 70's and the coffee was basically brown water. Black Rifle is some of the best coffee I have had and the specialty coffee they offer through subscription that is whole bean that you grind has been outstanding and highly recommended. Enjoy your videos and your insight into traveling and products. Safe travels!
Awesome coffee tutorial ! Thank you.
Thx for both you and your sons service from another coffee aficionado
Iâd be craving a coffee if I was downwind from you. Nice job Brad!!
Good video Brad, gotta have that coffee on the trail for sure brother. Congrats on the E3, I signed up to check it out, sounds like some cool stuff coming.
Hell yeah brother. Coffee, overlanding, veterans, thatâs why I love your channel. EASing here soon. Hope I can meet yâall one day
Kudos for supporting BRC! Great video, I'm passing this onto my Jeep driving, coffee drinking daughter!
Thank you!
Great subject for a video and thanks for putting this together.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I have had the coleman one for many years now and I have always loved it.
Great video!!! Canât wait to see what comes with E3!!!
Wacaco expresso maker is simply the best for expresso! Best thing first thing while watching the morning sun come up đâ
Great video! Personally, I like Cowboy Coffee!! Just wanted to mention adding in the comments.
I've waited years for this video!!!
Loved the video, even though it's almost midnight and I am getting ready to go to bed, I would love a cup of coffee. Coffee always tastes better outdoors and especially on a cold morning. Thank your son, Jordan for his military. We appreciate his service to country, Semper Fi John K
Thank you! I am going camping with my friends this spring, and I needed ideas to make coffee while camping. because we are ALL coffee drinkers, and my task is, well, make coffee at the camp! âïž I am definitely getting my percolator â€
I have an EZ Way coffee maker cup, I had many years and love it! It's basically a bottom section that sits on the mug with a metal mesh filter in it where you put the coffee. Then you put the cup section in that and fill it with your hot water. The water then makes it's way into the bottom section with the coffee grind and through the mesh filter, into your mug. It's okay that it makes one cup of coffee at a time, as I don't have friends or family to share the coffee with. It's just me.
We love coffee! Thank you for the video very good
Something so wonderful and nostalgic with percolated coffee while camping.
Welcome back stateside
This product is amazing! I've been wanting to buy one for so ...
Agree perk is the best sometimes I even pull it out at home to get that camp feel. Trick I have learned is to use a paper basket filter in my perk and just stab the perk spout threw it, helps keep the grinds out of the coffee but the big thing is it makes cleanup on the perk way faster. Another thing to consider when peeking is most fast methods require boiling water first and thatâs the part that takes the perk time so always worth it IMO only way to make a camp coffee
Thanks for the video on this very important topic.
Man I want a cup of coffee now lol. I should've watched this one in the morning. Glad your son is home and going to stay for a while, that's great news. Thanks for your videos and insight. Keep 'em coming. đ
Thank you! It's great to have him home again!
Thank you. Very helpful. Iâm tired of the instant stuff
Pontiac Aztek XD ..percolated coffee is definitely my favorite, we make it at home all the time, as well as camping.. taste can't be beat! Great video :)
Aeropress ftw
Thank you this really helped me decide which coffee brewing method to use for 3 adults who tend to want more than one cup each morning! Going to get me a large percolator
Always good to see you! Your trail partner, Marco, inspired my wife and I to try an make a cooking video (albeit an armature attempt, we enjoyed the process) Taking my son to Death Valley tomorrow for a couple of nights. This return to the outdoors was largely inspired by you! Thank you, Sir!
I always enjoy your video in JP! Also, thanks for your son's service!
Thank you!
Awesome. Glad your young man home. Thank you for your Service. đ€đœđșđž. O||||||O
So great to have him home again!
Very enjoyable video Brad, Iâve not gotten around to sorting my percolator yet either as truck is being refurbed currently!!
Joined the list đ Good luck for the launch đ from ur fans from đšđŠđšđŠ
Awesome! Thank you!
Hey I'll sign up to be a flounder, that's about my speed..and I'm an instant Folgers man myself it has never failed me in 50 years.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the coffee video. My husband and I are starting to get back to camping. We really enjoy your video's and have inspired us to get back out !
That is awesome!
Thanks for posting brad, I usually do instant coffee but have long wanted to use what you use haha
This is a fun coincidence, I just uploaded a review of my Espro Travel Press! I love this thing đ
Coffee is something to get before winch and lightbar for overlanding đ
Man, Iâm also a coffee freak.... When Iâm hunting or camping Iâm that guy making the good cup of coffee for everyone in camp.... Everybody knows they are having a greater tasting cup of coffee when Iâm around. Coffee, Jeeps and friends the best combo!!
âThis is fun, Iâm having a blast here.â
Need one of those cups!
Thanks Chief
NO INSTANT COFFEE. LOL! Thanks for sharing Brad and best of luck with E3 Overland!
HAHA! Sometimes you just gotta. Thank you!!
OMG Master Chief, since when is a Navy Master Chief concerned with Foo Foo Coffee. If the spoon stands in it, all the better, and dont wash my cup brother. Lol all in fun :) lol. Signed MMCS(SS) Dave Smith
LOL! No more "mud" coffee for me! Thanks for your service motivator!
Good info!
I used to take it for granted that camp coffee was always terrible. In retrospect, it was generally percolated coffee that had been left on too long, until it was burned/bitter. But then a friend brought a coffee press on a camping trip. I now make coffee at home with a press, and I have a stainless steel press that I take (car) camping.
But for backpacking, I use the individual packets of instant coffee from Starbucks.
Great video!!
Thanks!
Whenever I have to drink instant itâs Medaglia dâOro espresso! The best. Good luck with the three overland I sense a big reveal with E3 Offroad, LOL
I was in the marine corps for four years. Still donât like waking up early. But I love coffee. Thank you
Thank you for your service! After 26 years in the Navy, coffee and getting up early are a way of life. đ
French press is what I've been using at camp for years now. I like the results. It tastes great every time.
Love the perk over the fire and the french press. But when I am walking, hiking to you guys, I like to throw some grinds straight into the pot, delish.
Fun vid. I love my pour over like the one you used. Iâm the only coffee drinker in my family so one cup at a time is fine. Actually I found cleanup to be super simple. Just shake it out and let it dry. Dries fast then rub off the now dry coffee grounds... ready for adventure! Thanks for all the vids you do. I like your style and wish I had a good solid group like you have.

Everyone in my family drinks coffee... I think my coffee bill might be higher than our food bill! Thank you!
At home I'm an instant coffee person. For hiking or a few hours camp out in the backyard forest, I'd make my coffee in an insulated thermos and just pour some when I want it. Or I'll bring my French Vanilla Cappuccino sachets to put in the heated water or I might bring some regular instant coffee with some sugar and whitener. If someone else does make the coffee from beans, I'll drink that too as long as I have sugar for it and hopefully also a whitener product. I'll use whitener, milk powder, milk, cream, flavored cream (if a good flavor).
Wow cool. I learned a lot about coffee today. I'm not picky. I can make good with any of those methods. Anyone that gets on your case needs to chill out. Jeep shopping. What fun! I look forward to seeing that. Oh and I also like dark roast.
Having a good cup or 2...3 of coffee is essential! Thanks for all the awesome options Brad! Welcome back to US soil Jordan!!
Great that Jordan's home - can't wait to see Jeep shopping results!
Coming soon!
Best cup of joe was brewed at sea down in the engine room or before going on watch in Damage Control Central... good stuff!!! I am looking forward to being apart of the E3 Team!
By far the French press is the best. I had the Coleman coffee maker but I have never had a slower coffee maker ever. It took about a half hour each pot. Great vid.
I don't know about Navy coffee but in the 60's when we were in the boonies any where in the world the mess sargeants would throw a gallon or two of coffee depending on how many gal's the pots were and boil till ready.
They're brewing Starbucks coffee on ships now, since 2006. Enlisted cafeteria/mess
Normally foldgers dry roast and then it was the big 5 lbs can of government issued coffee coffee
@@missingremote4388 We had gal cans, I got married when I was back from the jungle and being pay was not much I took a can from the mess and no matter what we did the taste didn't improve.
Now you got my attention.
Excited for jeep wrangler shopping with your son!
Can't wait!
Hi Brad, first thanks for all info that you are give all us. As I start my off-road journey and putting a trail list together. Where are you finding all those cool patches? It's a great way to remember the trails. Thanks again for the great content.
nice, i like the aeropress and the el comendante for home.
Brad,
Youâve given us a video of different ways of making coffee on the trail, how about a video of your favorite coffees. Iâm currently researching, sourcing, and trying new brands. Iâve been a ground Folgers drinker for 30+ years. Iâve recently switched to grinding my own whole beans.
Best overland coffee vid ! Lets make som coffee now
I've been doing the Starbucks instant packets for years. Found it traveling in Indonesia. I think they where testing there as I had not seen them before elsewhere. It's not my favorite either (french press!) but a good tip to make it better is to mix a dark and a medium roast to get better favorite. It's hard to beat on the go...
Please keeping pumping out more vids. We can use it.
