    Thanks for demonstrating the procedure AND pointing out where to find which M-tronic version the saw has. Cheers!

      Good deal. Let me know how it goes. I found that it is easy to do but you need to make sure you get the timing right. I also noticed that it makes a difference in the saws performance.

    I always calibrate with a hot engine. Your not supposed to do this with the engine cold for several obvious reasons. As soon as max revs is over kill it then. No reason to let it run after revs have dropped. Shut it off and fire back up and cut.

    Great video. I have an MS 261 C-M that is *not* an 'mtronic version 3.0' and I am really frustrated with the hope of depending upon my very expensivce Stihl MS 261 C-M when I need it. I've read many posts, and in short I know I'm not alone with these performance frustrations.
    There appears to be a product ~grey area between the mtronic version 3.0 chainsaw you speak about and the 'sux-2-b-u' version of MS 261 C-M that I bought. I've replaced the spark plug, cleaned the air filter, changed out the gas filter, and watched every You tube video I could. I bought my MS 261 C-M in late 2018 and I've had to have it serviced twice. Not feeling the love for this machine at the moment. If you have any insights, I would appreciate hearing from you.

      I wish I could help more. I run my saw maybe twice a month so I am not a heavy user by any means. All I can offer is that I have really had no issues at all since recalibrating. I did have some hot start issues where I would be running the saw then stall it and have to restart it and it would absolutely refuse to restart, I would just about want to throw it in the trash. Since calibrating, I haven't run into that again. Hard to give any other insight.

      I’m in the same boat as you Rick saw runs great sometimes replaced 2 ignition modules and still having problems with it stopping when hot and not wanting to start. It is 2018 saw and there is a complete information void on what to do next. dealer put if on computer and said nothing wrong with it. Except change filters.

    Great video! Very good detail. Just bought the 261c-m today. I've watched a ton of videos on youtube about dealers not knowing much. I asked my dealer if they started it, he said yep, runs great. I then asked if he did the calibration - he looked at me like a deer in head lights. He does not know about the calibration! :( Do they come pre calibrated from the factory or should I calibrate it?

    • @Jazzking22
      @Jazzking22  Před 3 lety +2

      Just run the calibration cycle for yourself to be sure. I would honestly run a few tanks through it first before you run it at that high of RPMs. Make sure to buy the 6 pack of Stihl oil so you extend your base warranty by a year. It’s a no brainer.

    • @bhilton81

    • @Jazzking22
      @Jazzking22  Před 3 lety +3

      If your saw isn’t running right, if your saw is idling weird or if you are having trouble with it restarting. If you move or are using your saw in a different climate or elevation. It just resets your air fuel mix based on the atmospheric conditions.

    • @Jazzking22
      @Jazzking22  Před 3 lety +4

      Yeah after watching the footage I think I was a few seconds short but I noticed the engine speed dropped back down according to the chart so I think it still worked. I will do another reset some other time but I had the saw out all day yesterday and it ran flawlessly and there was no hot restart issues like I had before so fingers crossed! Thanks for commenting.

    • @darkbidding
      @darkbidding Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, I was wondering about this too. Instructions say to kill the saw after the idle drops, but the chart shows the rpms dropping twice after it hits its max rpms. I’d like to see the follow up if you do it again to see if the rpms drop again to actual idle speed.

      Only as needed. If you do it once now then if you run into an issue later you can do it again later. I would only do it if you are having issues or the saw seems off.

    Yeah...use one for a living, then tell about mtronic. Stihl knows the pros hate it. Carb saws, new and used, have almost doubled in price and nothing is shipping from Stihl as they rush to redesign. Steer clear unless used for home use.
