    Updating the Firmware on these Cameras is so easy compared to updating a BIOS on a Motherboard

    Thanks a lot Tom, that was useful. I had my Z9, and honestly I didn't know what to do. I did my firmware update to new version. Have a nice day...

    Nice how-to. I also saw the notice of version 3.0 and did the update using the conventional method(download the update file, copy to CFXpress card and inset the card into slot one) this morning too. I use two cards in my Z9. I keep my settings file on each card in case I format one of my cards out in the field away from my computer. I put the firmware file in the root directory of the second card using the conventional method. I remove the first card from slot 1 and insert the second card with update file in slot one for the update process and then swap cards back to original slots to return to shooting. I read on another posting about this update that the Snapbridge app will be updated soon to correct the handling of using it for updates.

      That’s a great way to do it! Thanks for the helpful comment!

    SD card?

      It rolls off the tongue so much easier than CF Express!

    Hi, great video. Here's my question, I have two memory cards in my Z9, can I format one card for the firmware update and restore my settings from the other card? Thanks.

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  Před rokem

      Absolutely! There are several ways you can do this, but perhaps the safest is to go ahead and save the settings to the card in slot #1 and then pull it out and set it aside. Then go ahead and move the other card to slot #1 to update the firmware either using the app or via computer. Once it's updated you can move it back to slot #2 and restore your settings from the original card you had sat aside. I hope that make sense.

    Thanks for the video.....upgrading to 3.1 now.
    I never hear anyone talk about updating lens firmware unless there's an issue of some sort- is it worth the time or is the lack of talking about it evidence of how underwhelming the updates are?

    • @TomReplogle

      Hey, thanks for watching! Lens updates are definitely important, especially with the Z lenses, but I often forget to check to see if there's an update. Your comment got me back on Nikon's Download website looking up the latest firmware updates for my lenses, and sure enough there was one for my Z 20mm (just updated, thanks!). Sometimes the firmware updates are underwhelming but often they add additional features to your lens...like the Z20mm update that added linear manual focus with the lens control ring. You may be seeing a video on this in the near future....lol :) Thanks again for watching.

      @@TomReplogle thanks for reply. I don't really use the function buttons or control rings (at least as of now), but I'll definitely see what lenses have/don't have updates and what features are improved after your comments.

    Hi, trying to update my firmware on Z9 but it won't allow me to expand the file, it tells me it's in an unsupported format. Any idea how I can resolve this? Thanks so much, Mark
