Persian Speaking World: Similarities & Differences (کشورهای فارسی زبان)
Vložit

- Can Persian speakers from different countries understand one another? The simple answer is yes. However, there are differences, which exist in each country, and even within regions of those countries. In this episode we touch on some of the differences in the way Persian is spoken in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Iran. A huge thanks to the participants, Hakim, Omid, Niloufar, and Mahtab, as well as my friend, Alisher for his assistance. As mentioned in the video, there are other major Persian speaking communities in the world, but these three countries are the ones that have Persian as an official language. The history of the Persian nation extends far beyond the boundaries of the three aforementioned countries. For instance, in the modern-day country of Uzbekistan, Persian speakers are the largest part of the population of the ancient cities of Bukhara and Samarkand. So many of the greatest Persian scientists and achievers who are often said to have been from Uzbekistan were in fact Tajik, if we are to use the terminology, instead of saying they were Persian. This video goes much deeper than just languages! We briefly talk about on the shared culture exists between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran. The common culture, history and language of these nations go back thousands of years. There are many pre-Islamic festivals and cultural traditions with Zoroastrian roots that bond the Persian speaking world, such as Nowruz and Yalda, the many customs that come with them, and the way they are celebrated.
This video is also important for those who always use the terms “Persian” and “Iranian” interchangeably without understanding that there is a difference! Iranian, in a modern sense, is often used to refer to those who are citizens or descendants of citizens of present-day country of Iran. While the majority of Iranian citizens are Persian, a huge portion of Iranian citizens are not. Meanwhile, there are millions of Persians who are from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and many other countries.
The evolution of the Persian Language can be broken up into 3 major periods, from Old Persian (525 BCE - 300 BCE), to Middle Persian (300 BCE - 800 CE), to Modern Persian (800 CE - Present). The modern Persian language is a continuation of Middle Persian, which is a continuation of Old Persian, which together are the linguistic ancestors of Modern Persian.
The early Islamic conquests in the 7th century led not only to the expansion of Islam, but also that of Arabic culture and language. As a result, many historically non-Arab regions witnessed a major language shift and the eventual adoption of the Arabic language and even Arab culture, Arab identity. However, the Persian language was the first to break through Arabic's monopoly, and it even began to influence Arabic. In the 9th century, the Tahirid dynasty, despite being highly influenced by Arabs, tolerated the Persian language and culture and didn’t take an anti-Persian stance initiating a shift in the emergence of Persian culture and language. However, the major renaissance of Persian literature would come after the fall of the Tahirid Empire under the Saffarid dynasty along with a group of other Persian dynasties that would go on to rule the region in the following centuries. Under the rule of the Saffarid dynasty many Persian poets and works of literature emerged. It is in this time period that we gradually move into what is Modern Persian. The importance that these Iranian empires placed on the Persian culture in the post-Islamic conquests era, led to major rise of the prominence of the Persian language and culture, and the creation of Persianate culture and identity that led to the Iranian speech and traditions influencing a major part of the Islamic world, including many pre-Islamic Persian traditions and cultural aspects. It also led to the formation of the Turko-Persian culture. One of the empires in this period were the Samanids (Samanian) which in its greatest extend encompassed all or large parts of today’s Iran, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Pakistan. They greatly promoted Persian culture in the lands they ruled, leading to the rise of numerous Persian scientists, poets, mathematicians, philosophers and thinkers.

Thank you! We would love to!! I hope to find fluent speakers of other Turkic languages, such as those you mentioned, in Toronto who want to participate! If you ever happen to be here, send us a message, we'd love to have you join us :)
@@BahadorAlast I wish I lived in Canada, but I'm in the UK. If I ever happen to visit, it would be incredible to participate in a video. ✨Happy New Year to you and your whole family! ✨

salom, siz juda go'zalsiz!
I love your videos, they are very informative and it’s so interesting to know the similarities among different languages and hence the cultures.
It’s really so fascinating.
Just few suggestions
1. Many a times like this episode we are completely alien to the languages so if you can display those words on the screen for us then that would be nice
2. Also every individual should have a lapel mic so that words could be heard clearly.
Many a times participants are speaking in very low voices and it’s hard to hear them and understand the words they are speaking.
3. I am actually listening to your programs for knowledge gain and hence when I can’t hear what the participants are speaking that’s kind of irritating.
These are just a few suggestions. But in all I love your videos.
Keep it up and God bless

We Turkmens have a big influence of Persian culture, a lot of words from farsi. Thank you.
@Toonimation not all turks but Turkmens, Uzbek have genetic, cultural, linguistic relationship with Persians.
@Toonimation our vocabulary more than 20% is Persian words, DNA 20-60% matches with Persians and cultural, we celebrate Nowruz, our folk costumes resemble with Iranians and so on. Turkmens are mix of Turkic people and Persians. go do research.
@Toonimation they are more Turkic thаn anyone else. Kirgizs and Uygurs are oldest nations among Turkic ethnics.
@Toonimation I am Turkmen and but look like more Afhgani, Tajik than Kirgiz and consider myself we have heritage of Turkics and Persians. Turkmens are more close to Turkic people.

Hi Bahador, could you consider making the words and sentences used in the videos as flash cards,
I enjoy the interaction especially the introduction of pastries and teas... Keep up the good work.

I believe I am one of the very few Hindi/Punjabi speakers who watches each and every video on your channel. I'm very fascinated by Arabic, Turkish and Farsi. You're doing a great job Bahador, keep up the good work.
Haritik Mishra hindi speaker here although as someone who has lived in Delhi and Lucknow I understand a lot of Urdu too (not surprising though haha)

Bukhara region in Uzbekistan also speak Persians ♥️
Bahador Alast Persian was official language of Uzbek khanates until 1920.

hello from Tehran! I’m nearly at the end of the video and I loved it, because it covered two of my favorite subjects; linguistics and unity. rekindling relationships with neighbor countries and their people and finding common grounds to bond over. I thought this might be of interest to you and Shahrzad (since she’s from Mashhad); in Khorasan, the word for cucumber also used to be Bâdraang (بادرَنْگ). I’m Mazandarani myself, and I’m not sure how common it is to use بادرنگ in Khorasan nowadays, but I thought I’ll just put it out there. :) wish you guys all the best!
This is one of my favorite phrases: "global citizen"---you, Bahador, are showing us all how to be a good one along with all the other awesome people in your videos. I love learning about other people and cultures, for all of us are beautiful and interesting to me in our own special way, for we all together make up the amazing global tapestry of humanity, where all threads in the tapestry matter and make up the picture of our whole world we share together, just as all the pieces in a puzzle are necessary to make the whole picture complete. :) I am new to your channel and am hooked now, in a GOOD way lol! (Also, I really like the figure of Ahura Mazda on the table, and thank you all for sharing your lovely cultural traditions with us, too.) Blessings on you all!
Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that! ♥ I hope you enjoy our future videos as well!

I started learning Farsi a short while ago and I am so thrilled whenever I am able to catch a familiar word. :-D I do adore this language.

Thank you so much aghay bahador!
It’s been long time that we were waiting for this kind Of video.
This kind of videos make us unify and I hope that you make more videos with afghans and Tajiks about the Persian culture and history and other things in common. unfortunately there’s no other CZcams channel as yours to do such a program like that to improve our knowledge about the similarities in our culture.
It’s our job to broke the borders between our countries.
love iranians and Tajiks from Afghanistan 🇦🇫
Thank you!! Really appreciate it and I definitely plan on doing that!
Much love for the Afghan nation! ❤❤
I was amazed. A lot of farsi words are in kazakh language which I never thought they were of farsi origin. Tajik girl looks like Salma Hayek.
She's prettier than Salma Hayek
Great video!
Surprisingly 90% of those in rural areas, the farmers and uneducated folk in Afghanistan still refer to the language as Farsi, meaning they are not exposed to the official narrative of name change to Dari.
@Kourosh587 Salam from Samarkand, durust guften baradar, shuma az kuja asted?
@Kourosh587 zadgahi Mawlana Rumi shahre Balkh ast, arezoo daram ki dar Afghanistan safar kunam.
This is incorrect. Most, if not all, afghans and farsi speakers in afghanistan are aware of the language being called by the name Dari. However that term is mostly used by outsiders to differentiate between Iranian farsi and afghan farsi.
Some people call it dari, some farsi, and most people don’t really care and will call it either.
Making the assumption that we don’t call it Dari because we’re “unaware and uneducated” is ignorant.
I am not sure if you intended to be harmful
but please think before you comment something like this. 😐😐
@@flush280 meant that the rural residents and the masses have not been exposed to the official agenda of the name change over the decades. They still refer to the language as Farsi, as had been the case for centuries. We all know there is a deliberate political attempt to carve out a separate language by incorporating Pashto words and alphabets and call it Dari.
I meant go ask the masses, who have not been exposed to the official propaganda, what their language is? You’ll get your answer.
No harm intended.
@@HumzaProductoins If that is true I find that interesting. What is your source for the 90% statistic because I feel as though that is an absurd amount. From my experience being raised in a rural part of afghanistan, everyone I have known is aware that outsiders call the language Dari 🤷
I’d like to join your company as a Tajik from Samarkand, Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 🇹🇯 🇦🇫 🇮🇷🖤
We'd love for you to join us!
I love all of your videos. I liked this one the most. Thanks for making this video. I never really understood why some Iranians would tell me that Dari is different from Farsi even though I called the language Farsi. In a way they would discriminate you. I always thought that Dari is just a political word for Farsi just as Urdu is for Hindi (with the exception of the written forms of course everything else is the same). I'm from Afghanistan and I can understand people who are from Iran along with other people who speak Farsi. The only difference is some phrases and words that's all. Thanks for spreading the awareness and educating people. I would love to see videos like this in the future as well.
Thank you so much Farzana jan! I agree with you completely. I think some Iranians are just unaware of it due to the lack of interaction with people from Afghanistan. I hope that our videos can change that and increase the interaction, friendship and bond between us. To demonstrate that we speak the same language, I made another video, this time only speaking in Persian. I am not sure if you have watched it, but here it is: czcams.com/video/JnBqn7eXT9I/video.html

Does Bahadoor means brave in Persian , it does so in Urdu.
