Generally I find it better, if the victims or their families are supported, and the culprit could do something to help with that.

He was not trying to beat it - the lorry was already stationary at the traffic junction, which meant the light had been red for a while. He was speeding away from the merc to avoid detection, likely because he already has a record of prior traffic rule violations.

Just curious, why is the public so eager to know the name of the perpetrator? Shouldnt they just be concerned that he must be punished accordingly to the law if he is found guilty. As such, there is no need to disclose his name as it is not a necessary information that the public need to know. the only information that people need to know is that justice is served and the perpetrator answers for his crime.
    -
Seem to me, some people in the public require the name is because of their hidden agenda such as to either criticise the govt of their policies (if he is a foreigner) or harass and shame the perpetrator and his family (some people are such petty and have all the time of the world to do such things).

Why is it that Singapore still has not implemented vehicular manslaughter law yet? The idea of punishment and penalties is also to act as a deterrent. Unfortunately such deterrents are already bordering on just merely "a slap on the wrist" in current society/environment. Many drivers and road users nowadays are more willing to take the risk of speeding or breaking the laws, knowing that the most they get is probably just a few months in Changi, or fine and banned from driving.... provided that they get caught. And let's not forget Singapore 2/3 remission terms... In other words, It's losing its effectiveness and no longer serve as an effective deterrent in current society and environment. Our laws and penalties need to be updated accordingly, not just increasing jail term length or increasing fine amount. Start with enacting vehicular manslaughter bill into our current legislation. This is not the first, nor will it be the last we hear of errant speeding drivers and other road users making the news. Not too long ago, we have 2 other accident news, 1 of a driver knocking over a student at a zebra crossing within a school zone. Another of a lorry knocking down 2 students. In addition, our government also wants to control the vehicle population right? Then adopt a multi prong approach.... Its not just about the reducing COE quota or increasing road taxes and ERP. Enact stricter law and implement vehicular manslaughter bill as well. Make driving unappealing, too rigid/strict and not so cost effective so that ppl will think twice about driving. Imagine the amount of land we'll get back from reducing our road network and what they can be used for in future...
