- Professor A Vathsala, who moved to Singapore from the US, found herself working in nephrology and kidney transplantation at the Singapore General Hospital in the 1980s when 1 in 2 transplant patients died from kidney rejection.
Her advocacy for patients’ continued access to subsidies for immunosuppressant drugs paved the way for Singapore’s lauded success rates in kidney transplantation today. As the co-director of the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation (NUCOT) today, she continues to strive to add years to the lives of patients.

Singapore is so fortunate to have her.
Not just in the area of kidney transplant and teaching, but also in the addition of 3 kids to Singapore 😂
Being spent days and raised outside India this lady has carried our culture way better than many Indians who are in India Thank you Maam
Because....
South India! ❤⬇️🇮🇳
She stick to her traditional dress-code and culture. Elegant lady .
I am one of her patients who had undergone a kidney transplant on Nov 2017 and Prof Tiong in the video was my head surgeon. I was operated on at 1am in the morning and am so thankful till this very day for the new kidney and their medical professionalism and expertise.
Being a patient at NUCOT, the treatment is so comprehensive and I am really being well taken care of in all aspects. Thank you Prof Vathsala and the team at NUCOT.
thanks for sharing!
Wish u well!
She's inspirational. Yet, humble and proud of her Asian heritage. Thanks to her husband for bring her here. Hope she will also be able to impart her skills not just to Singapore doctors but also beyond.
Asian heritage? Singapore is also in asia.. i think you mean Indian heritage.
As an Indian, many Singaporeans look down on us (racism). They cannot accept the fact that we can contribute more than them, more educated than them and more people and family oriented
Thank you Dr A Vathsala for coming to Singapore and to contribute to our country.
Infinite love and respect for Prof. Vathsala from Nepal.

Amazing work.Wow! Professor Vathsala is quite an extraordinary human being. A great interviewer on this subject matter.
The interviewer was brilliant! She asked all the right questions and kept the conversation engaging and interesting to listen to.
What a wonderful doctor.
Thank you for your service
I am really inspired listening to these Angels
Ive had renal failure I request all CKD patients to never repeat my mistakes. Please please take care of your native kidneys , treat them with love and affection , do not eat too much protein , control your BP and sodium , sugar intake . Intermittent Fasting for 12 hours will help you to deny food to your body and absolve some of your health karma. Earn a honest living , Never sell adulterated food to maximise your profit margins, never sell alcohol, never sell or promote tobacco . Dialysis is like taking small steps to fatality and this disease is terrible . My heart breaks when I saw the patients in this video. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Absolutely brilliant episode
What an absolutely brilliant interview! Amazing energy and drive. Makes it look easy but takes tremendous effort.
Thank you. Prof Vathsala

Prof Vath is the best!

Prof V the Preserver of life ❤🌹

A Hero among us. Thks to her Captain hubby
Indians at the forefront. So proud !
Prof Vathsala comes across as very approachable. No wonder she is so successful 👍
She is not. Her family is Medical royalty and they behave in that way. Her daughter is treated like royalty (probably the only Indian around me that did not face racism because she is her daughter).

Passionate women !
Thank God she went to Singapore. As an Indian and a doctor in India, i feel like her zeal and talent would have been wasted if she were to come to India. That too in those early years , people wouldn't have given ears to her words . What she is today is her talent and hardwork but her contributions were made possible because of the kind of infrastructure and support Singapore has given her . I sincerely hope one day my country can boast about quality medical care too even at the basement level . 🙏
Indian dr at aiims and other government hospital are at par with her if not better ....i can understand medical facility might not be sufficient given our humongous population...but don't demean our dr...she is doing great ...so is our dr ...our country is known for medical tourism for the same reason

Ohhh shut up
You are misguided. Indian doctors are at par or reven better than her.
But just like you did here, people respect "US return" "foreign return" more than home doctors. Basic problem with Indians.
Why u people defame our country ?
All indians doing well in Singapore. Congratulations

Fortune for Singapore to have her and a loss for Karnataka. The title could have been included " ...Indian " but nonetheless you Singaporeans still consider India as a third world country.
We have enough people in our country actually. We don't really need anyone.
We just need to train our people better...we are not short of workforce but only the proper training
coz it is bro we are a 3rd world country,,,
