- As the city of Mumbai, India, bakes in an extreme heatwave in 2024, how does where one lives impact one’s capacity to cope? In the suburb of Bandra, the affluent live side by side with residents of the slums. We find out how successful entrepreneurs Shraddha and Raghav, as well as auto rickshaw rider Feroz and his family, deal with the extreme heat.
Can one NGO’s roof initiative help slum dwellers, who have no access to air conditioning or expensive home retrofits, deal with extreme heatwaves forecasted in the years ahead? Vivek Gilani of the Fairconditioning Foundation talks about the solutions needed.

No, they are just fortunate to have the life they do. Hopefully they can appreciate that. Maybe moreso after they see the video of their life alongside the less fortunate

The extreme end of the rich and the poor lifestyle in India. The extreme heatwave "kills" the poor while the rich enjoys the pool. Who says life is fair?

In India it certainly isn't.- Imagine if the whole world followed their example
It's called income iniquality. The greater the unequal distribution of wealth the greater the gini index.
@@CaptureAsia The income inequality is really sad but everyone wants to be rich right? So don’t make that couple feel bad, I doubt if you were in the rich’s shoes you’d want to trade places. I have such a huge heart for this kind of struggle. My heart is lifted by seeing loving families as such a universal.
the difference is the rich only think of themselves, but the working class will give cold water to those who do not have, typical, the parents are not doing any favour's to their son either, important for kid's to experience good and bad, this way they live in their own little bubble

What is the purpose of widows and doors. I live in the tropics so I know about heat. What does she mean that windows are not really a thing, while the burns and may even kills, it also provide deep cleasing removing molds and other issues, even while we sleep the home should be well ventilated fresh air heals many sickness, God and nature does not support living our lives inside, board house with ceiling does not heat up as concrete and cool down easier. The problem is that there are no trees for breeze and shelter
the houses in the slums are built connected to each other. so they share side walls. so no windows on the two walls. the slums have very narrow houses so there's no space for a window on the front wall, just a door. the back of the house have more houses that share the back wall... so no windows on the back walls. this is an issue with a majority of slums.
As the oldest continuing civilisation in the world, India is the example; demonstrating the destiny of us all. This truly is the future of all civilisations. We are all confronted with environmental devastation. Good luck everyone.

I'm from Switzerland and just got back 3 days ago from a holiday in Bali, Indonesia. Yes Bali is also sweltering HOT but I actually love it. Despite the heat, it's also quite breezy. I found it very pleasant.
And when I was there, there was an influx of tourists from India in Bali. They didn't seem to be bothered by the intense heat of Bali though.
Its same temperature and climate of India.
Because the temperature is always same during summers, this year only in some parts it crossed 48-50°C .Extreme heat and extreme cold is always there
This really puts things in perspective for me. Even at my most "broke" times in the US, I have had the great privilege of never having to go without air conditioning in my home or apartment, air conditioning in my car, and cold water from the tap on demand. This was humbling to watch and I wish I could help.
I witnessed it first hand. The unimaginable sweltering heat and dust, lack of pavements and filth strewn around. This is the reality for the common man. There's a complete lack of empathy and compassion as if the poor were destined for this treacherous life.
This is what caste system does to your mind. 3000 years old. No matter upper or lower caste, your mind get's trapped inside a small yard, rich don't care for poor even if he's dying near his house . This is india

Why does he choose to live in poverty according to you? Like how does he and his family stand to benefit from living like this in the long run? Why would they intentionally deprive themselves of a better quality of life? Also, from what i understand 25000 dollars a year would put you in the low income bracket in the US.
Wow. 77 degrees indoors for the family with air conditioning ! I have my thermostat set at 70. I would be uncomfortable in my home at anything warmer.
For house, make high ceiling
Why not use mud tiles instead of the cement ones or the tin one's..no need for insulation
Very good point.
They won't last decades as concrete does in harsh urban environments. How many cycles of Mumbai rain & flooding would it survive ?
Concrete takes years to cure..but mud doesn't..and if you mean concrete then it also should include iron as reinforcement..which is unnecessarily taking the cost high
It doesn't cost much to paint those roofs white. I've seen an NGO doing this in Bangladesh for the poor and it does make a significant difference. Then you don't need complicated devices to move to let the roof cool down again
Top soil is too valuable to be used as tiles for roofing, we can find other cost effective and eco-friendly solution.

Muslim will not understand they have 12-14 childrens
Tha man and his wife didn't complain a bit...god bless them and the first family too..this is the two contrast of nit only mumbai but among the people around the world..but what matters is the happiness and contentment which were there in both the family's face...
I live in a small hometown in jharkhand surrounded with jungles and also no factories. No pollution.
And its so hot. The humidity is killing us. At night and in the morning its getting difficult to breathe. Every other household is getting AC installed and its sad
May god bless you always 🙏
Don’t bash women. She knows how fortunate she is and I didn’t see her boasting. Both families seem to have good relationships. I do feel bad for the living situation of the poor family.
In north east India because of frequent rain and Strom every day temperature doesn't exceed 30 degree c
I went to india in November and it was so hot and it was supposed to be winter season 😭 I literally couldn’t handle it (I’m also a wimp ) so I can’t even imagine how hot they are. Kudos to Vivek for doing more than the billionaires that live a few miles away
Indian summer will end in July with the monsoon. Its cooler in Northern India in winters.
come when tis december or jan or feb best
Billionaire 😂😂😂
The rich family probably earns more liket 50,000usd per year. That is great money in India, but nothing extra ordinarily extravagant for two people working.
People have become contradictory temporarily..like the rich lady who never understood why the weather became hot? It's because the space of her building kept emitting heat for the poors living around it to suffer..and I stay in bombay as well.but we never had an AC for the past 30 years..that we kept planting trees every year..just that simple
Plant trees save lives ❤
shame on those richer, surrounded by dire poverty.
That was the real purpose of this so called docu...there is not much info about the climate change and it s effect on India but filled with emotional bait clips , not so expensive to make it huh...God how I hate those manipulating style of work. What do you do with your money, donating half of it to the NGOs?
Why should they care?
shame to them that they are poor but still have 2-3 children 😂😂😂
nope poverty and rich gap will be thier for now yes govt need to fix them asap but in a n developing country thier will be a gap always
You don't make any sense.
