    I cried so much over a couple of my plants being eaten by one of my dogs, so it's okay to be emotional, we care for our plants and it's not fun when something goes wrong. But most times there are silver linings. A couple of the eaten plants are so much fuller now that I was forced to propagate. Even my peace lily that still has mangled leaves, is flowering for the first time in my care. ❤🙌

    What a difference a day makes, those leaves compared to before you chopped them are incredible! I have a peace lily that was my grandma’s that was given to me after she passed away. I know it’s just a peace lily and I could go and get another one but if I were to loose this specific one, I would be in tears too, because actually it’s not just a peace lily, not to me. She holds so much sentimental value to me ❤

    I have been watching your videos for a while, long time subscriber, wanted to thank you for all the work you do. It is so refreshing to watch your videos, knowledgeable, calm, and hopeful, even in light of some rot going on that is unavoidable in some capacity in our plant-y journeys, without a hint of negativity in your attitude and mindset. Also, would like to encourage you to continue with long videos, I hope many can join me in the sentiment that the "shorts", while they have their place and audience, are not for everybody. Thank you again.

BUT - I followed your advice in this video (and I love that you added superthrive to your moss) and cut off the dead rot, put it in hydrogen peroxide and water for a few minutes and am letting it callus over. I'll put it in some moist moss with FoxFarm Microbe brew (to aid in root development) and hope for the best. Thank you so much for this informative video - your albo and aureas are beautiful 😍

    This was so helpful! As a beginner, I’ve watched so many videos on propagating and taking cuttings and almost always still walk away with questions or uncertainties. Your video was so clear about where to cut and where to expect new growth. The hardest thing for me right now is distinguishing between dead/rotten roots vs. brown roots from soil stains. I’ve also been finding a lot of mushy or black parts on the stems of my pothos water propagations. Do you recommend leaving cuttings to callous for most plants? Would it help with pothos?

    For the first time I did two cuttings on a main plant that has been doing very well. I wish I had seen your video prior because the main mistake that I made was not letting the cuttings dry and callous before putting them in water. The leaves are still green on the cuttings, but they’re drooping. Is there anything that I can do to help them along so that they don’t fail?? I don’t know if I had enough water and I wasn’t covering the aerial roots consistently with the water so I think I had two roots starting, but then fail to keep them in water. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi!! This video is super helpful!! I have a cutting that I’ve been trying to root for about a month. I started by just putting the aerial root (it’s super long) in stratum, but must’ve wet the stratum too much because I noticed the tip of the aerial root getting dark and squishy. So, I cut off the squishy part and put it straight in water instead. It’s been in water for a week or two now, but still no changes.. And now I’m questioning everything because no one told me you cover the growth point 😫 I’ve kept it out this whole time and only put the aerial root portion in stratum/water… Hoping it’s not too late for my baby cutting?! Thank you for any advice/help! 🥹 Also, I appreciate the raw emotion. A lot goes into these plants and it creates a natural attachment. It sucks when they don’t do well

    What are your thoughts on using a little bit of silica in the moss and/or water for propagation?
    I received a 1 leaf Albo cutting as a special gift from my newly found sister and I am a mess at the thought of losing it. Something kept telling me to take it out of the soil and pot it come in and I’m glad I did because over 3/4 of the root had rot. I’ve had rot issues before with monstera lechleriana variegated when I had it imported from Thailand. I would turn the heater on in the house and set the fan on in the greenhouse to high. It’s important for warm air to circulate to avoid mold growth. Also remember that plants have enzymes that help the plant take in nutrients. Enzymes require the right temperature to function properly in plants and in humans. Also, the white leaves browning means the humidity is very low. I have my monstera albo in my ikea cabinet and the white leaves that come out are super moist and juicy with no brown.

  • @UttaraPraana
    @UttaraPraana Před 9 měsíci

    If the roots aren't mushy could you save the plant by rubbing off the rotted outer portions of the roots? I just did this with a hoya and put it in my fish tank. I think the soil was hydrophobia and I over water it after I brought it home. Repotting it just made it worse. I rarely throw plants away and will do everything I can before I throw in the towel. I saved my first pink princess doing this but when I potted her she didn't do well so I ended up putting her back in the fish tank. I gave it to a friend in water and I'm excited to see how she does in soil. Since the prices have dropped so much I bought a new one this Spring. :)

    I can also sugest bypass pruners for cutting plants. they dont crush the stems, easier and safer to use. Also it doest not have to have an areal root on the node to root as a cutting, from my experience most of my cuttings root not from the areal root.

      Happy to share! All the 7 variegated monsteras I had got rot all by this window from the old soil I used (sol soils) It sat wet for too long and I didn't realize this mix holds onto that much water. Unfortunately, they were slowly all rotting. I caught it once I noticed my aurea was slow to grow this spring. Then I checked them all and they all had rotted roots. I treated them all but 3 the rot kept coming back including these two. Monstera albo cutting I got in sept 2020 and the aurea I got in 2021 about a year later and haven't chopped either of them before.

      It'll be awhile :) I wouldn't pot them up until they grow a decent root system and a new little leaf first. Some probably won't root until a new leaf forms and roots grow off of it. I'll end up transferring them to a larger pot with moss then once I have enough roots pot them up!

    So glad for you that everything looks better and hydrated again, but I wonder if you dont check the color of the growpoint. What I could see most where nicely marbled but at least one was pure white. doesn't that give all white leaves and a plant that is doomed because it has no chlorophyl ( or other way around, a pure green growpoint will give a reverted plant )

    • @plantsbymelissa

    So sad you had to cut this beautiful Monstera. But in your care the cuttings wil do great!! Do you know when you make the cut you can put cinnamon where you cut. It gives a bigger chance that the cutting won't rot or bacteria gets to it when it's dry out. Maybe try it first on other cuttings first to test it. You can google this for more information. Or maybe you already knew ofcourse. So succes with these, it will be ok😜💝
