Hey im a combination of both of your jobs im in DevSecOps. I like coding and security
Thank you, i was torn between deciding which path to take and going for an entry cyber security analyst and build my way up to a cloud security engineer.
Really glad this was helpful! 😄 good luck with your decision, cloud sec is a great area to go into right now!
I’m silly torn between Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Software Engineering, but I’m considering taking Software Engineering seeing as to some degree both Cybersecurity and Data Science could benefit from Programming skills, specifically Python.
This is exactly what I was torn through when I was a student haha, I did a bunch of data analytics/big data externships then did a SWE internship but ended up accepting my first fulltime role in cybersecurity, it made my resume kinda confusing to HR lol but I think it also made me stand out against other candidates, I'd say it won't hurt you to try a bunch of different things and just see what sticks and which one you actually enjoy doing. I thought I wanted to do Data Science but then when it came to the actual tasks of cleaning the data, dealing with all the nuances of that (which is what you'd be doing starting out as a beginner), I didn't enjoy that very much. Definitely learning coding no matter which one you go into, Python is a great choice since it's versatile. Good luck and keep us updated! :D
Should I give up trying to be a software engineer? I’ve applied to a million jobs and internships and haven’t gotten a single interview. It’s getting a little draining.
It’s definitely a rough job market out there, but that also doesnt mean that people arent finding jobs even when entry level, I think this is going to improve once the tech recession ends and the news around AI starts dying down. Have you tried local career fairs and conferences? Hiring local is typically more effective since the companies are smaller with less external/out of state applicants. Both of these are still very lucrative fields to get into but make sure you get the technical projects, any relevant certs, and bootcamp/degree ontonyour resume to help you stand out. Good luck with everything!
Do you live in NY?
@@Beru_Domain Midwest.
@@WithSandra ah, okay. Thank you. I’m working on my degree in computer science so hopefully that helps!
Nah man, don't learn how to code 😂😂😂. I hate it so much.
I’m already working my way through the Google Cybersecurity Professional certification. Should I still attempt to get the CompTIA+ cert afterwards? Once I finish the Google Cybersecurity cert I was planning on taking Josh Madakor’s bootcamp.
Good luck on the Google Cyber cert! I’ve heard great things about the results from Josh Madakor’s program so he’ll be anle to prepare you for the job, a cert on top of that is just a cherry on the cake at that point. Best of luck with everything!!💯
@@WithSandra Thank you so much. I very much enjoy your content. Keep up the great work. 🤘🏼
For me personally, the single reason I don't commit the rest of my life going into Cybersecurity is that in the part of the world where I live you literally need to be a genius for computers to get a Cybersecurity job (Balkans) and I'm really not sure how realistic is that someone from US/Canada/EU/Australia would give a remote Cybersecurity job to someone from the Balkans.
Thanks for watching! Are there any local cybersecurity or tech companies in your country? If not, I’d assume government or finance industries would be where they’d want to hire the most cybersecurity professionals. It may be a smaller number of companies that hire but if they have online services or handle sensitive information, they should definitely have a cybersecurity team or personnel
@@WithSandra As far as I know in an entire region there are quite a few cybersecurity job opportunities, and most of them are filled with people with 10+ years of working experience as sysadmins, network admins and software engineers.
Did you try manually applying to any near company?
Just storm tha place and say you'd like to have a job😂
@@Heelo_0 Sounds like a plan. :)
@jonasalderson6064 hell yea man go for it and maybe you get someone who employs you😭🔥
❤
Thanks for watching!😄
Am ambitious into starting my career into cyber security, please advise me which path to take as a beginner that will land me into a job.
Thanks
As a complete beginner, an SOC/Security analyst career path will be the best place to start, I have a video on a cybersecurity career roadmap here: czcams.com/video/UZOPSi2egJU/video.html
Hope this helps, good luck and keep us updated! :D
@WithSandra Thanks alot, I have started a Google cyber security professional certificate, hope it will help
@@WithSandra thanks alot
Sandra, are you doing 1:1 career consults atm?
Currently I'm not doing 1:1s, but if you leave your questions in the comments or email me directly hello@withsandra.dev, I'll get back to you! :)
Can I be a cyber security engineer with a diploma in computer science?
Yes! I have a degree in IT, I also had previous colleagues who had non-tech degrees or came in through bootcamp programs so there're lots of different ways to get into cybersecurity. Get the hands on experience in a bootcamp, get certified, and start adding technical projects on your resume, I have a video on this here: czcams.com/video/zc7LTa9q2nI/video.html Good luck and keep us updated! :D
i picked cyber security cuz i cant do leetcode or i find leetcode boring ctfs are fun
I also hated the Leetcode grind lol, but for some people that’s their favorite way to study, I guess there’re two types of people😆
Take advantage of internships.
💯💯
That’s discouraging
It’s definitely a rough job market out there so we want to be as honest as possible, but that also doesnt mean that people arent finding jobs even when entry level, I think this is going to improve once the tech recession ends and the news around AI starts dying down. Both of these are still very lucrative fields to get into but make sure you get the technical projects, any relevant certs, and bootcamp/degree ontonyour resume to help you stand out. @@RealEchos Hello! Because it is a new video on this channel that talks about advanced computing to which I subscribe, I think someone with knowledge could respond to help me. What do you advise me?
