      @williewhite20 I studied nonstop for a little over 4 months. Security+ 601All in One Exam Guide Book, Security+ Practice Test Book, took the practice tests. I mostly did customized quizzes and did the quizzes by chapter. I had free access to Aci Learning. I used their practice tests and flash cards. Oftentimes, I would do practice tests by domains and pick questions I haven't done or go over missed questions. LinkedIn Learning, Professor Messer videos, Exam Cram on CZcams, and Mike Meyers on Udemy. I always wait until Udemy has discounts going on before purchasing a video.

      Really glad these vids have been helpful! 😁 congratz on soon finishing your A+, I think the Google Cybersecurity cert is a great next step since it also provides a discount for the Sec+ if you’re gonna take it anyway, Network+ I’d only recommend if you’re interested in going into Network security or an entry level network admin role, but the Linux+ is a great option for both cybersecurity and IT roles so thats another path you could consider that may be more relevant. Hope this helps and best of luck with whatever you decide😁💯

But over the past few months, I have drifted away from cyber because I was stressed trying to decide if I really wanna get into cyber or software engineering. After watching your video, I feel motivated to get back into cyber and will do that by enrolling in this Google cert.

      Hey! 26 is really just starting life imo 😆 you have so much time moving forward, even if you didn’t start 5 years ago, today’s still the youngest you’ll be starting at. Then 5 yrs from now, you’ll be really thankful you made that jump today! Completely understand the feeling of choosing between careers tho, but it helps knowing that its not permanent, you could do cyber for 10 yrs then decide you wanna try SWE and by then, you’ll probs already pick up some scripting or secure sdlc skills to bring over, maybe even for a hybrid security software engineer role 😁 Thanks for being part of this channel, I really appreciate you! Best of luck in the cert program, keep us updated!

    I’m currently doing the google cert then I’m going to do security + since it’ll be discounted. I’m contemplating going back to a community college to get a computer science degree just to be more knowledgeable and make my resume look better.
    Do you think that’s a good idea or should I just stick with the certs and focus on building a strong portfolio?

      @WithSandra  Před 7 měsíci +8

      Glad you're taking advantage of the Sec+ discount, I feel like not enough people talk about it lol. As for going back to college, I'd first see how far your projects and certs can get you, this build up usually takes 2-3 months of active technical learning to get a strong project portfolio and applying to jobs while you study for your Sec+ (make sure you add onto your resume that you're actively studying for the Sec+). You could also break into cybersecurity through an IT focused role too, there're lots of different options before dropping $$$ on a degree. I'd make that plan B or potentially checking out an online degree program like WGU, I know Josh Madakor makes videos about his experience there. Hope this helps and best of luck :D keep us updated!

    • @Nishinga.
      @Nishinga. Před 7 měsíci

      @@WithSandra awww this is awesome thank you so much I really appreciate it! I like how you mentioned it being plan B cause my mind was so hyper fixated on it being the “optimal option” cause it’s a degree.
      I finally broke out of my introverted shell and started networking with a few of the seniors at the IT department at my job and I never thought about getting my foot in the door with an IT job.
      I get so nervous about their “status” and how much they’re making that i tend to forget that they’re still human just like me so it doesn’t hurt to ask for guidance and see what they say. Imposter syndrome is a killer for me lol
      I’ll definitely keep you posted on any updates I have with everything 😊 thanks again Sandra!!

    • @suprisepoopies25
      @suprisepoopies25 Před 7 měsíci +3

      to be honest, the google cert is only worth it if you have absolutely no experince. Your time would be better spent doing the CompTIA trifecta (A+, Network+ and Security+). The Sec+ will not be discontinued, it will just have the newest version of the exam ( it wont be that different). The discount you get from doing the google cert is negligible and the same or better discounts can be found on other voucher websites. If you already work at a robotics company I would suggest asking them what sort of skills they are looking for. I will also second looking into WGU as a low cost online school. Youll get both a degree and a bunch of certs at the same time for a fraction of what most schools cost, depending on how quickly you can get through the material. As they say, experience is king, so doing portfolio projects is always gonna be a good idea, but none of the certs I have mentioned so far will adequately prepare you to do those types of projects. You need more hands on experience, in my opinion, before you start to feel comfortable doing these type of projects. I would suggest looking into tryhackme, or hackthebox, which use real hands on type labs to teach you about cybersecurity. Ive done all these certs and honestly I think these websites have been the greateset bang for my buck. Im not sure how it would be, withouth the context of what the certs have taught me, but together it is great. Anything you can do to strengthen your resume is a good idea. School isnt neccesary but it definitly helps. Cybersecurity is a very niche position at most tech companies so it definitly helps to have broader IT skills before focusing on security. I hope this is helpful, I have been on that same path for the last year so I figured I would share what my experience has been. Good Luck

    • @WithSandra
      @WithSandra  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey! :D Firstly, it’s awesome that you already have IT and incident handling experience, this is really gonna help you out once you start applying for entry level cyber roles. Yes to google cert then sec+, esp bc the google cyber cert provides a discount to take the sec+, in terms or blue to red team certs, you’ll find a lot of resources online, I recently made a vid on blue team resources here (soc/security analyst): Become an SOC Analyst | Top 5 Courses for SOC Analysts (Cyber Security for Beginners)
      czcams.com/video/T1IPPSapI24/video.html
      For red team certs, most of the highly-sought after ones are more advanced but even starting out with the Pentest+ could be a good option for you, or just the good old Tryhackme + Hackthebox challenges on your resume, they also have red team pathways too.
      Most of the certs/pathways will have projects included so that should jump start your resume updates too. Best of luck!! 😄

    I’m a 37 year old female from Ontario. I worked in security years ago and wanted to become a police officer but had to back out of that. I’ve been in retail now for almost 10 years and it’s not what I want for my life. Cybersecurity has peaked my interest a few times over the last couple years and I’m really debating the Google certificate course. It’s scary to change jobs/careers at my age but I don’t want to settle with where I’m at. Thank you for your informative video and knowledge!!

      I know it sounds cliche but it really is never too late to start! I’ve said this to someone in a previous comment as well but even if you didn’t start x number of years ago, today’s still the best time you’ll be starting at because 5-10 yrs from now, you’ll be in a drastically different place in your career. And by then you’ll be really thankful you made that jump today without wondering about the “what if’s”! Best of luck to you in the Google cyber cert program and keep us updated with your progress, you got this!!😄

    I am 37, and just got my bachelors degree in IT two years ago. I have been procrastinating (mostly scared) to pursue career in IT. I just dont know where to start. I am currently an admin asst. in maintenance and operations but I feel like I am wasting my time here esp. after spending $30k for my degree. I love technology and want to do something within the field. cybersecurity seems like a great start. I also like to troubleshoot. Any other recommendations for IT Careers? Any good remote jobs? I have two little one’s at home so that would be super helpful.

      Financial crimes and crimes against people (violent crimes, human trafficking) are typically frowned upon. For other stuff, if you're lucky - the company will look at what you've done since then. Whether you've reoffended, if you have references that will speak to your work history since committing those crimes, if you have a solid work history since, etc.

    Hey, Coursera, i know they are sponsoring you but they have the worst reviews, do you personally recommend them? lots of cases where people sign up for the 14day free, cancel early and they still get charged as well as no help through out the coarse? thank you in advanced Matt

    • @WithSandra
      @WithSandra  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey Matt! I haven’t heard of this issue myself but the free trial is only 7-days for their certs! But for their Coursera PLUS program, it’s 14-days. It could be a bit confusing depending on which you sign up for when you start the program, which changes what free trial length you get. Hope this gives some clarification! Otherwise, I’d email their support team and try to get your money back if cancellation was before trial end date, you’d definitely be entitled to that.

    Dear Sandra,
    I really want to start studying cybersecurity and get the CISSP certification, but I am confused about wich the best cybersecurity boot camp to start with , Ironhack or Flatrion school, so please could you help me choose the best one of them.

    • @WithSandra
      @WithSandra  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey, thanks for watching! If you’re just starting out, you’re likely not going to start at CISSP for your first cert, I’d consider a beginner cert like Security+ which doesnt have any required prerequisites to get certified. I also havent looked deeply into the Ironhack or Flatiron bootcamp curriculums so I can’t give a definitive answer, but I do have reviews for other cybersecurity bootcamps on my channel, a good option for you might be the springboard bootcamp which has a job guarantee if you qualify, that’s the safest option I recommend for most ppl starting out. Hope this helps and best of luck with whatever you decide!

    I thought about going into fullstack academy for cybersecurity but then theres google cybersecurity that cost less. What should i do?

    • @WithSandra
      @WithSandra  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Fullstack Academy is a bootcamp while the Google Cyber program is a Professional Cert on Coursera, they're a bit hard to compare, but I usually recommend starting with the lower cost (or free) resources first before dropping $$$ just to make sure cybersecurity's right for you! They have a 7-day free trial so that should be a good option to just start the Google Cyber cert ( imp.i384100.net/k0R0rz ) and decide where to go from there. Good luck and keep us updated! :D
