I've got to check out Lovely, Dark and Deep. It sounds right up my alley.
I don't watch a lot of movies or tv, but I did re-watch The Ritual this month since I recently finished the book. That is such a good movie.
I saw The First Omen this weekend and it was so good! Nell Tiger Free gave the performance of the year so far!
She’s amazing!
I wish the gothic novel Voyagers of hell is adapted into a movie soon. It's so scary.
Loved Susie Q. Every once in a while, I start trying to look for it.
Best movies, Mandy! You surprise me with Burt Lancaster. I take note about Roh.
I rewatched The Fist Omen on Disney+, such a love letter to 70's horror and that torso scene 👀😱
Love Amy Jo Johnson, did you see Infested with her ? Falls in to the so bad it's good territory !
I have not but that sounds like a lot of fun!
Susie Q! I remember watching that as a kid on the Disney Channel; they used to play some darker, more mature themes on there back in the day. I miss that! lol. And The Swimmer sounds really interesting. Definitely checking that one out.
I watched The Howling II recently for the first time and it was...um...different? 😅 I enjoyed the theme song at least. I'll just leave it at that! 😆🤣
Keep meaning to check out Tarot because it seems like the type of creature feature that I really enjoy. First Omen was great and The Swimmer is a classic, but definitely need to check out more of these.
I watched Tarot without any big expectations and ended up having fun. Can't wait to watch Mind Body Spirit and Profile. The First Omen is really amazing.
So glad to hear other people enjoy Tarot for what it was!
Oh snap, didn't know Mind Body Spirit is on Hoopla already, thanks for the heads up! The First Omen is incredible. Lovely, Dark and Deep, and Lowlifes were my May Tubi watches and I really enjoyed both of those.
Great watches!
Susie Q was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Never heard of The Swimmer before but adding it to the list! Thank you for all the recs!
My May was filled with a random assortment of films mainly the Puppet Master movies (which I had never seen before but now I have watched all 15 of them).
I also watched:
Susan Hill's Ghost Story: an ok slow burn (what else?) ghost story
Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1977): An odd adaptation with one of the funniest dinosaur fights I have ever seen on film
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire: I enjoyed it
Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?: Delightful murder mystery comedy from 1978
Miss Marple: They do it With Mirrors (1991): A really solid adaptation
The Last Amityville Movie: (now on Tubi) Watched this with some friends because they wanted to see it because I am in this film
And the last movie I watched was Snuff-Movie by Bernard Rose. I was curious to see what else he had done besides Candyman and this was a very odd film. Like really odd. It's worth checking out if you can find a copy. I had been searching for one for years and finally tracked one down.
Great video as always! And I hope you have a lovely week!
Wow, you had a great viewing month!
They all sound good, I love the found footage movies.
I just watched Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) on Shudder last night. It was pretty great. It's about a family that can't stand it that their son died in Viet Nam and the mom prays to bring him back home...then he comes home! It's directed by Bob Clark from Black Christmas. It's a very dark and sad horror movie. If you like Pet Sematery or The Monkey's Paw story you'll like this. Same energy.
I wouldn't be surprised if Deathdream inspired Pet Sematery.
Ohhh I haven’t heard of that one before but it sounds good. Thanks for the rec!
I watched Lovely, Dark and Deep last night! I enjoyed it, but it wasn't really my type of movie either. It got too strange for my taste, I needed a little bit more of an explanation, or not even an explanation to what was happening, but a tiny bit more of lore or something. Still, it had some great imagery, and I have a big soft spot for the wilderness setting.
I need to watch The First Omen asap, I just realized that it's available to rent in my part of the world now, and I'm happily surprised, it usually takes forever for movies to be available. Yay!
Yay, I hope you rewatch it soon. It’s even better on rewatch!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror I just finished watching The First Omen, and I freaking loved it! It was such a gorgeous movie, loved the cinematography, the music, and the eerie ambiance. Great acting too. Proved that it is possible to make a prequel that actually works, that has something to say, and just fits in so seamlessly with the original while having it's own point of view. Yay, so happy I finally got to see it!
I liked the first omen but I thought immaculate was a lot better tbh…also they changed one scene in the first omen which does not make sense as it does not correlate to the original now sadly, but I can see why they did
My excuse for not watch The First Omen is... Hulu is forbidden in Canada. You mentioned interest in people going missing in national parks. Have you read any Missing 411 books? Thanks for the good work you do.
Aw man that sucks that it’s not available in Canada. I think you can rent the movie on a VOD platform though. I’ve read a few Reddit threads on Missing 411 but not any books!
Others I'd recommend...
House of Yes
Far From Heaven
Revolutionary Road
Ordinary People
Leave Her to Heaven
The Swimmer is a grest one, showing the dark underbelly in afluent surburbia.
Yes!
loved tarot, couldnt finish first omen when they had the nun smoke just couldnt finish... not true to life
Lol Marie, it’s about a woman impregnated by a jackal to bring forth the AntiChrist. It wasn’t meant to be true to life
2 movies i recently watched which aren`t really horror but they are scary and tense because they are high suspense thrilllers are cascade which is on prime and that old movie with alicia silverstone called the crush that was the 1st movie she did. i had forgotten how good it used to be till i watched again. both cascade and the crush have the commonality where the plot is unpredictable.
Omg I used to love The Crush!
@@mandysmorgueofhorror ....me too and as a hetero dude i must say that alicia looks stunning and plot is such a cool psychological mindfk. they have on prime but for rent -- go 2 tubi instead and watch it for free. free is the best price. but try to watch cascade too--its hella good. u`ll love it. have a nice day, Mandy x
