I respect him for his knowledge, but logic he gave for 1st case to justify rama action was wrong. Going against tradition of society if it's morally wrong is the least even a libral reformer can do. @@physicscal2142 Ram is not God. God is an English word from Christian traditions. The Sanatani word is parabrahman or ishwar. Ram is an avatar of Vishnu from the perspective of existence. From the perspective of human evolution, Ram avatar is a civilizational being, a stage in human development where dharm is upheld for preservation of civilization, a stage of development succeeding Parshuram (avatar of Ram with an axe) where civilization is about to stabilize, and there is a process of crude society transitioning into a more civilized dharmic, righteous, rule based society. Therefore Parshuram avatar is a stage where there is much greater violence, less dharma, where strong prey upon the weak more frequently. Parshuram slays many many kshatriyas over and over in response to strong kshatriyas taking by force anything valuable as they please.
Ram and Parshuram both are avatars of Vishnu in their different realms of times, overlapping each other showing transition of the Bharatiya Lokam.
As for avatar being different from God, everyone is ishwar (not God, which is a totally different concept), even you and people around you can be avatars today by knowledge and deeds. (Jnanam and Karmam)
Please don't mix up non sanatani idea of God with the philosophy of avatar.

Ramayanam can be read easily or atleast sections can be referred to. Only 3 books. ( 25K slokas I think )
Mahabharatham is a different league though.

A key point regarding Shambuka Vadha is that he wanted to go to heaven with his physical body, which itself is against the Dharma of the universe. Also, there is a small point in Raja-Dharma, which says that if the person who committed an act undergoes siksha by the king/government, then they won't experience the sin of hte act in hell. Also, another point is that those who are killed by a king are granted admission to heaven. Since Rama is Vishnu himself, by killing Shambuka, he not only restored Dharma, but he also gave Shambuka what he wanted in a way that doesn't violate the Dharma of the universe.

There're so many misinterpretations about this topic and you clarified them with facts. Kudos to you.
People must understand that "Jaati" and "Varna" are two different things. In fact, the English term "Caste" is not a direct translation of "Jaati". Jaati is a term used to determine species of an organism. So, if one is born as a monkey it's Jaati is Monkey and same applies to humans. Hence it is by birth, because no one can change their species.
On the other hand Varna was the classification among different classes of humans based on their "karma". The deeds that people do defined their Varna as explained in the video perfectly.
But later on both these terms were mixed for obvious reasons.
Varna became Jaati that is by birth. But they didn't define Jaati properly instead used it as a way to classify people by birth giving advantage to upper class over lower classes.
It is still the same as people are still uneducated about the exact meaning of these terms.

Caste is well defined in Gita chapter 18 verses 41-44 which says caste is based on actions and not on birth . If possible try to make a detailed video on it.

Wonderful explanation on this topic. Also, in the Valmiki Ramayana there is the full story of the evolution of Vishwamitra, from a king to a Brahmarishi. How through extreme penance, discipline, tribulations and so many obstacles in his path, he became a sage of the highest level of realization. Ramayana is a very interesting epic, some instances of the story are confusing and contradictory. But, cultural and societal context is the best way to reconcile those aspects. In my personal study of the Ramayana, I have had to remove my own preconceptions of the Ramayana and Ram as a divine incarnation.

3:18 - Uttara Kanda is not part of the Valmiki Ramayanam that we have in publication now - a - days. The only version of Uttara Ramayanam was the late 19th century records of one copy from Southern India. The rest are all interpolations and derivatives from various sources which are questionable. Shambuka vadha comes in Ananda or Adhyatma Ramayanam which is said to have been written by Maharishi Valmiki himself and Ved Vyasa but the authorship in the modern context is highly debatable. Also a video by Veducation channel on Shambuka vadha differentiating between types of Tapasya and the anushtana Shambuka was doing clarifies that his penance was meant to destroy the world. That was his singular aim. He was 'Shambuka - asura' who reincarnated in the family of those following Shudra varna just for the purpose of performing this tapasya, to gain Deva Yoni and perform an anushtana that will destroy the world. It is for this very reason that Shambuka was put down by Sri Rama else he had no differentiation between sudra, Vaishya, brahmana, kshatriya. It was to be remembered that so called 'Brahmans' had to follow the rule book - 'Dharmashastras' owing to which they couldn't stay in large houses, palaces etc. and had strictest of the strict routines and codes that if violated led you to loosing grace and excommunicated. It is said - "A Brahmana can forget the Vedas as it can be relearnt but not the 'Acharana' - daily routine and principles of action loosing which you loose everything even the status of Brahmana which didn't merely denote to wearing three strands of interconnected sacred thread."
it was in direction of Dharma that he was slain and he achieved his wish of getting Dev yoni but yes was prevented from destroying the world. Sri Rama also requested Shambuka to stop the Tapasya as Godhood can even be reached using simple tapasyas like Maata Shabari. He requested Shambuka to give up Tapasya and chant Sri Rama naama. However Shambuka also spoke decently and "convinced Sri Rama to slay him so he can achieve Dev Yoni." This is the truth. This was a leela only meant for souls with higher consciousness and Bhaktas not for the common public. This is the issue.
But in 16:09 project shivoham is saying that shambhuk wanted to go to heaven with his body to get sensual pleasure .

In regards to the case no. 1, let me remind you first who a shudra is , a shudra is the one who has not read Vedas ( varnashram system is based on your karma and Guna not determined by birth) so it is very much obvious that the person who has not attained the knowledge of Vedas should not perform a yagya , as the very much basis of Yagya is the knowledge of Vedas , yagyas are based on the rites written in the Vedas so if a Shudra (who has no knowlege of Vedas ) would perform a Yagya would invite a whole lot of mishappenings not only for himself but also for the people who he is performing the yagya for , due to the lack of the knowledge of Vedas, which are very much the foundation a Yagya hence it was the dharma of Sri Rama to stop it.
I don't know what kind of lessons you are deriving from orthodoxy and bigotry, but there is immense significance in the verses written on Lord Rama by Adi Shankaracharya and Tulsidas.
So it means, if I didn't read vedas and I'm performing a yagya because I want to experience it so it gives u the right to come and murder me 😀

Amazon publishes journals and diaries of people of the bygone age. They also have a feature"Look Inside." I was reading through one such book of an English gentleman who served in India and who was involved in census. He recounts that during those times, in gurukuls, the majority (41% on the average) were Shudras. And Brahmanas were the least at 2-3%. He also was confused on the composition of a family because the father and eldest son were of the same caste (varna) while the other sons were of different varna depending on what they did for a living. These are the words of an Englishman. Not mine. If I come across the book again, I will post the link here.

I have very carefully gone through the whole Sanskrit text of the Valmiki Ramayana published by Gitapress Gorakhpur. Uttarakandam may have certain interpolations, but all in all it's just like the उपसंहार / ग्रन्थ माहात्म्य of the main text. It's truly an integral part of the whole text. 🙏

like some say casteism existed way back since ramayana times as parashuramaji was born into a brahman kul and stuff...and they also say that shrirama was kshatriya but he was brahman as i saw in one of ur shorts (but this also raises the qs related to that...were all archers brahmans? like arjuna karna etc.)

Chandalas were treated as an untouchable because of their job. Even today will anyone welcome a person who says that I have just cremated a dead body into their home? We don’t touch even our own relatives who have gone to cremation ground. During covid times the doctors who treated the covid persons remained aloof from the rest. That doesn’t mean that they should be treated badly. But in later times people started treating the people badly due to their castes even when the person was not doing the job according to his caste…which is wrong….

5:56 - morality and ethics hold true for ALL times. So what is morally wrong today, was morally wrong in those days too. So the question "why should an innocent man of a lower caste be killed?" was relevant back then, is relevant today, and will always be relevant. And therefore that question MUST be asked, and provided an answer!
The ONLY plausible explanation that one can give for this adharmic act of Rama's is that the Uttara Ramayana was written much later by other authors around 5 century CE. This was an era when people WERE discriminated on the basis of caste in India.
But there was NO need for Sri Rama to take Shambukha's life in this story. If Shudras were prohibited from performing Tapasya, then the question we have to ask is how was it determined in that era that a person is a Shudra or a Brahman in the first place? It clearly says in the Bhagwad Gita that a person attains a particular Varna based on his capabilities and actions, NOT by his birth. And clearly, Shambukha's actions were those of a Brahmin, hence he should have been treated as a Brahmin (despite being born as a Shudra). So why kill a Brahmin for performing his duty, and what possible harm can this cause to another Brahmin as claimed?
The author could have rewritten the story in favour of Shambukha, thereby providing an instance of how noble Rama was that he respected Shambukha as a Tapasvi, and reinforcing our faith in him (Rama) as a Marayada Purushottam. Alas, that isn't the case, and the Shambukha story is a contradiction that will always discredit the Uttara Ramayana.
Please let us NOT pretend that this ugly truth doesn't/didn't exist, for then we would be deceiving ourselves and others, and that is against our Dharma.
Shambuka wants go to heaven without leaving his body. When a proud King Trisanku asked his Guru Vashista to send him to heaven in his own body, the Guru responded that the body cannot ascend to heaven. This is the reason Lord Ram killed Shambhuka.
