- The Maverick has been a sales hit for Ford. On the outside you will find 18in wheels, LED headlights and a 4.5ft bed. On the inside there is an 8in infotainment system, two-tone interior and lost of passenger room. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 250HP & is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the Ford Maverick a BETTER truck to BUY than a 2023 Honda Ridgeline?

This truck definitely has its place and is desirable to a large segment of the truck buying crowd. . Everybody does not need a huge full size truck. I bought a new Ridgeline in 2021 and love it. However, If the Maverick had been around I definitely would have checked it out.
Be glad you didn't. These trucks have become a total nightmare for everyone that bought em. This has been found to be a total lemon. Look it up.
@@RogerBrenon what a bunch of garbage, troll 👿
Looked it up.
Appears the vast majority of owners are very happy with their Mavericks. I think you're sensationalizing. @@RogerBrenon
@@RogerBrenonthe vast majority of owners love them. There have been an alarming number of recalls for some of them but most of the recalls have been related to issues that don't really matter. Mine had a recall for the sensor that tells you if a turn signal light goes out. That doesn't even seem like a real issue to me.
Got my 2023 Lariat Tremor fully loaded with the sunroof in April & I love it!! Fits my needs & checks all the boxes. Ordered it through Ford 8 months ago & paid msrp of 40K. The only extra thing I bought was the 8-year 100K extended warranty. took it on a 1200 mile drive & it averaged 27 mpg on the highway. It does 23 in the city. No complaints on my Lariat Tremor.
Do any towing? Do you feel like you are missing out on not going Fx4 with the 4k package?
@@jayman81424 I don't tow anything at all, so I'm not missing out by not going for an FX4 with a 4K package.
Love the idea of having a compact pick up truck for the city. I would take one of these over a sedan or suv.
Cheaper than most sedans or SUVs too and the payload capacity is about the same or even higher than most tacomas
Nice video.
I bought. 2023 Lariat 2.0 EB AWd, fully loaded, including sunroof. I think leaving sunroof as an option was smart on Ford’s part as not everyone wants one.
I concur that it would be nice to at least have the option to add fog lamps.
My previous vehicle was a 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E. I bought it used in 2018. Overall, I think the Ridgeline is a nicer vehicle, but it does cost more.
The primary reason for replacing the Ridgeline is that my son and his wife started a new business and needed a truck, so I bought the Maverick and passed on the Ridgeline to them.
I had both a Toyota SR-5, Chevy Luv, and S-10 in my younger days, so the Maverick was like a “retro-vehicle.”
The Maverick is very nice. I am fine with the plastic interior…I appreciate that Ford is trying to control costs. Buy a Ridgeline (or Santa Cruz) if you want more luxurious touches.
The one thing I miss on the Ridgeline more than anything else is the trunk in the bed .., it was awesome!
I can forgive a lot of faults at the Maverick's price point. I wish more companies cared more about keeping the purchase price down instead of obsessing over frivolous stuff like soft touch dashboards.
My dad said, "If you have eight inches of screen share it with a friend." I try to live my life by that pearl of wisdom.
I don’t hunk you understood what your day was saying 😂 he was tying to tell you he was gay 😂😂😂😂
@@papabear3525not at all. The “friend” is a wife
Never! But I'm probably the biggest Ridgeline fan here. Once you drive a Ridgeline, everything else is "just a truck". IMHO.
But the Maverick is one heckova deal.
Honda has the distinction of having 6 million plus recalls…..
@@sv5813 It's not in the numbers, it's in the percentages.
I went from an F150 to a Honda Ridgeline and love my Ridgeline. It drives and handles excellent. As a daily driver, it is the perfect vehicle for me.
@@kevinwalls5857 Exactly.
@@sv5813modern vehicles have so many sensors and things that don't really matter. It'd be interesting to know how many of those recalls actually effect the normal function of the vehicle.
I bought the 2022 Maverick XL-EB FWD. Ordered in Nov. 2021 and received truck in April 2022. For a first year/unknown factor truck, this thing has been an absolute JOY to drive and own. I know the hybrids were sought after, but my EB version still gets 27-28mpg city and anywhere from 30-33mpg highway. Once did an amazing 39mpg with a tailwind on the flat back roads in GA! Definitely an underrated truck. My only mistake was not realizing I'd be pulling a small cargo trailer. If I was going to reorder the Maverick, I would have gone AWD and ordered the 4K tow package. This is an awesome little truck for people who don't need a big, hulking beast of a truck.
Can close to buying one last year… until the stealership told me what they wanted for it. For a used Lariat with a hole made in the bed by the previous owner, they wanted 37k plus taxes and fees and they weren’t going to cover the repair of the hole. NOPE!
You have to special order, otherwise the dealerships are going to make you bend over and touch your toes. 😏
My Dad would of love this truck, He had the Ford Addreliane Ranger Sport. He never wanted a full size truck and when the Ford Ranger debut it was to high of the ground. This truck is perfet for retired folks. Great video.
I've only seen a couple Maverick trucks on my commute. But I'm so glad they're making "compact" trucks again. My first car was a 70 maverick, but I love smaller trucks. I drive a 2006 Colorado and it's a great size. I'll probably buy one used Maverick in a decade. Thanks for the video!
Received my 2023 Lariat Ecoboost AWD Maverick back in May with the nice Blue color and desert tan leather seats. I absolutely LOVE it!!!! Not only that, if you shell out for the lariat luxury package like I did, the Maverick comes with the blacked out rims which look soooooo clean with the blue color.
I ordered mine on the first day orders were allowed last fall and the 8 month wait for it to get built was well worth it! Rides so smooth and handles some descent trails and offroading as well! (Camping Northern Michigan)
Panda, my wait was 7 months for the Mavs I show in my videos and that was tough. Congrats!
Yes, Joe, I would like to see the Ford Maverick have fog lights. It only makes sense. I do like the exposed screws even if there is no functionality.
I expect there will be some aftermarket lights available
Nice video keep up the good work Joe
I love my Maverick. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned.
I have 2022 Maverick since last July. Love it.
A few corrections:
The base model is almost 24k and Lariats start at 35K and XLT in between.
It’s very rare that you will find a Maverik on the lot that isn’t marked up. Your best way of obtaining one at MSRP is going to a reputable dealership and placing an order for the 2024 models. They are still taking orders after almost a month of being open. You also would probably want to order an eco-boost engine as the hybrids are extremely back ordered.
My AWD, loaded XLT ecoboost is averaging around 27-28 mpg overall since taking ownership. Highway avg is easily 32+
Hybrid mpg isn’t that much better. It shines in stop and go traffic because of its regenerative braking. They are now charging a premium for that engine and all models are ecoboost front wheel drive standard.
Tailgates aren’t dampened. That is after market.
4K towing is an added package. Base towing is 2K.
Hope this info helps!
I’d really consider it if it was Hybrid AWD
That's been a gripe since the truck was introduced. The 2025 model year is supposed to be a slight redesign/refresh of the model so maybe then? They have an Escape hybrid AWD.
The problem is they can't keep up with production of the current 2 wheel drive hybrids so hopefully they are making some factory and logistics changes. They have the market cornered right now on the compact truck segment & aren't capitalizing on it.@@Bedhop
Guy in the video was correct.
That;s really good mileage considering it's quick. Average 19 in my Ridgeline.
@@shsb2355 For the most part troll.
I agree with the fog lights…..you knew I would. Lol
Nice little truck…..
Awesome video thanks for this!
It defeats the purpose if dealerships are going to keep marking them up. Most dealers charging 10k over MRSP.
Yup, and then people don’t buy them because they are expensive. So they sit on the lot beside all the F150’s that don’t sell also. Poor dealerships trying to make some money back on the F150’s that don’t sell by marking up Mavericks.
Most people order them. It's a lot easier to find a dealership that will sell an ordered maverick at MSRP than one that will sell a vehicle off the lot at MSRP. It's not that hard to get one d plan or x plan pricing. Mine was about $1500 below MSRP brand new.
Love the maverick doesn’t bother me about the moonroof only thing that makes me sad is the price here in Northern California it’s the crazy all the ones I looked at start close to 40 grand for a 2022 model that’s hybrid!!!! Ford needs to zonk the dealers for doing crazy mark-ups ! Love your work joe❤😢🎉
For that price I will go with a ridgeline
Greedy ford dealers!
@@rodneymeilinger7014 Are ridgeline's not marked up too?
No sunroof means no leaks.
@@99SVTBoltI am not saying they will never leak, but I've never had a sunroof leak. My Sierra however, had leaks coming in through the third brake light and the antenna fin.
Joe > I did see a Ford Maverick the other day & I have to say it looked pretty nice, a tad smallish - but I like the design. per usual mister Twinkie man - thanks for your hard work, all your time & energy & your love for everything related to automobiles/horseless carriages - much love, tony
Definitely going with the ford maverick it has everything you want and nothing you do not want
This is the true replacement for the old compact Ranger.
Biggest Ford fan. This is a cool small truck. Although I must say the entire interior lay out looked exactly like a Escape. It's interesting to see how many ways Ford can refigure and re imagine the same platforms with so many different models. And they tweaked that Ecoboost nice and fast.
Great review, got one on order. Only thing no one mentions is you need high test fro the 2.0 turbo.
A great truck at a great PRICE.....there is a reason why they are selling well. The Ridgeline..."always the bridesmaid, but NEVER the bride".
I'm currently driving a Honda Pilot 2022 I'm pretty happy with its great family hauler. But I'm looking for a second vehicle I can put miles and work I've been looking at pick ups but they're just crazy and the Ridgeline is no exception. These make a lot more sense to me I'm in the NY/NJ area I don't go off road too often (ever) but I carry tools and electronic equipment these on AWD are more suitable for me. I was thinking about a van, but they're also pretty crazy and these I have 4 seats god forbid I have to drop my Pilot at the shop for several days I can still move fam around with little struggling.
I've driven both the Maverick and the Ridgeline and it's the Ridgeline for me all the way. I like the two way tailgate and the "trunk" in the back. I do realize the bed is not as deep as the Maverick's but I'm okay with that.
Reason you prefer the Ridgeline? I'm on the market for a small truck, and like the Honda Ridgeline, the RTL E. Used one, 2022? I hear that it does not hold value, at all.
Great review

I live in a condo; 20x20 garage; Maverick FITS; love my Rav4 hybrid, but anxious to have a pickup box ( will get hard tonneau cover); '23 hybrid coming in October :)
There also was a Maverick Grabber w/ 351 upgrade, hood slits, graphics. The original Maverick was discontinued due to same design flaw as the Pinto : Not enough crumple zone in rear = exploding gas tank
Not true we had a new 1972 Mavefick 302 v8 great car excellent on gas and fast as he'll. The reason they did not sell to man y other choices to choose from
Might get this over the Rav4 Joe! Depends on whats available. Gonna start looking at the first of the year for both but you mighta just sold me on a new Maverick. Once again, great review Joe! Everyone i talk to that owns one of these has been extremely happy with it. Gonna be a hard choice. I have a 2005 Rav that has been a great daily and so dependable.
Order banks are open for 2024. Find a dealer that does not charge a deposit like long McArthur Ford place an order and wait. You can always cancel later if you change your mind and the dealer will thank you. It will be months before it gets here.
yeah, i know😞probably will go with the Rav4 just because of time factor but damn i'd like to have one of these! Might run into the same problem with the Rav4. @@marklihsu
JJ ~ I agree with you about the front fog lights, I notice a lot of newer models don't offer them as much as before (sad face) t-monster
In my old cars fog lights were actually amber fog lights and useful in fog or heavy snow. Today they are considered "driving lights" and what they illuminate is so close to the vehicle that unless you are in a parking lot it would be impossible to react in time to anything they reveal. I haven't found much use for them.
I was really looking for someone to compare how many Twinkies, Surges, have boys, and big Macs so this video really help me decide and pull the trigger

Just got my 22 maverick and i love it. I wish i would have been able to find a bit of a hogher trim at a reasonable price point but im good with the lower trim model for now
You’re videos are perfect
Pretty solid truck (for what 90% of its buyers would ever need) for $24-30k but definitely loses its value proposition above that. Certainly, a simple V6 contractor’s special F150 for $33k would be a better working truck but they don’t make those anymore.
I got lucky my 2023 hybrid xlt order is scheduled to be built in September. With the price increase for the hybrid in 2024 I probably would’ve gotten the ecoboost which I’m not too crazy about. Good luck to anyone that orders one. I have been waiting a year lol
The ecoboost is great in it, I came from a 2015 fusion titanium with the 2.0t and the 6 speed automatic. The eight speed works great with this engine.
If I ever get tired of the Mustang life, something like this is what I would be shopping for. A suburban truck. I don't tow anything, I don't go offroading, but there are times when I need to haul some stuff... and there's not much trunk space in the Stang! As for this one... I just watched your review of the hybrid... it's amazing that you can get such a vehicle for sub 22k these days. Also amazing that you can get the top trim for 30k! I agree, a larger screen would be nicer, but I personally don't care about a sunroof. I know it's just me, but a sunroof is something that I often used to buy, but seldom ended up using. As a matter of fact, I had a sunroof in my 2014 Fusion that ended up having the drainage channels get stopped up and started leaking everywhere. Yuck. And living in the South, having the sunroof just means that the sun ends up baking me in the car, if I don't have it covered, or have it open. Anyway, so a lack of sunroof is a plus for me.
Definitely needs a set of foglights. Especially on the Lariat.
I preordered my Mav hybrid last summer and my order got canceled after a year of waiting.
Good looking truck for around town hauling.
My 2023 maverick lariat tremor was well worth the price I love how you can fit it in tight places. The 2010 F150 raptor I have will leave it way behind if it fits. My daily driver is a 2016 Focus ST and the 2.0L turbo has been superiorly reliable.I look forward to many years of good service. P.S. I didn't order the sunroof personal preference 😊
Not really into either one of them but I will admit they are nice looking. Ford and Honda deserve the respect for that, on the other hand this Maverick does look good.
Video is super well done. New car prices are through the roof, so it'll be a while before I get rid of my 2017 Tacoma. If I need a compact pickup, I'll go with the Toyota Stout, (if the thing ever is ever released 🤣). Of course the Stout will be more expensive than the Maverick, but you get what you pay for.
Maverick any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Price, fuel mileage and value. The Honda can't compete in any of those three.
Nice truck JOE, but it should have some fog lamps.
Nice color as well.
Nough love and respect to you Steven.
I'm watching from St Vincent and the Grenadines my country. I'm Dexter
You’re the absolute best! Appeals to all audiences
Last year they sold out in 5 business days, but this year they haven't sold out, because they raised the price about $5K. It used to be a super bargain, but with a hybrid Tacoma coming, many customers are going to pay a little more for the Tacoma, which has a fabulous reputation. Ford has been a recall machine as of late, but i think the Maverick is a very pleasing product. Sadly the XLT trim which is the most popular uses ghastly orange bits. I guess you have to buy the black appearance package (quite expensive) get to rid of the orange, or go with with the XL trim. The Lariat trim takes you too close to Tacoma pricing.
The Ridgeline is about 10K more than the Maverick, not really in the same product tier; the Ridgeline competes against Tacoma and Ranger. The Ridgeline was supposed to have hybrid this year but Honda punted.
The Maverick is still a good value.
Nice comprehensive comment 👍🏼
I am one of those waiting on Toyota to make their compact truck happen. How long will it be?!
Toyota through its affiliated companies in Asia has been making small trucks for decades. However due to the 25% import duty on light trucks, no Asian truck can be feasibly imported into the USA. So the Tacoma is it for Toyota in the USA unless they build a factory for a new model. It's very unlikely. Congress keeps adding more and more required equipment, which forces starting prices ever hight, and there is no way we can have a small economical truck ever again. There are plenty of people in Congress who have the agenda of eliminating private ownership of cars and they are gaining ground every day.
@@joelunamoon
A good value yes but the ridgeline is a better vehicle hands down
Honda makes wonderful vehicles, among the most reliable vehicles you can buy. have owned several honda products. But the ridgeline is 10k more than the Maverick. Interestingly, the Mav is made in the Hermosillo plant, which is one of Ford's best factories. @@progressoful
Sure, if you want a really cheap truck for your business. But for me, as a personal ride, I'd pick the Ridgeline.
Thinking on going with the Maverick for my next one. I don't need a big truck, most of the time it will be hauling air driving to and from work. It will haul bags of dirt and wood from Home Depot every once in a while. Haul the equipment for fishing or camping and that is about it.
Will it come with the tow package??
2200 miles on it and averaging a little over 21 mpg. My 2015 Lariat 5.0 F150 is averaging over 17 MPG after 80,000 miles. Hybrid would be the only way I'd go. Ordered one last month, we'll see if and when it comes in. If I don't like it, I'll flip it for a mid-size truck. Not paying $70,000 for a new Lariat F-150.
Honestly for a small truck I like all the options it has.I kind of wish the fx4 and Tremor weren't separated but rather a baked in option. "I say this because its a truck but I understand these both affect towing" THe only other thing I would say is more colors"The car industry loves Black, gray, and white"
Thanks for sharing your feelings on this one.
Nice looking pick up.
When you ask your dealer about special ordering one and they say there’s dealer adjustment but won’t know what it will be until I order… very bad business practice. Went to Subaru and bought forester wilderness same day no hidden fees or mark up. A good dealer means everything.
Wait, they dropped the fwd with the 2.0 ecoboost?

definitely worth it for the dual Twinkie stack space, I'm sold
Well here in Socal, dealers are selling rhese trucks for 38k on the xlt, 42k on lariats, 32k on the base...horrible price gouging. The Honda Ridgeline is way more spacious and comfortable.
You can get a sunroof on the Lariat. I have a 2022 Lariat Maverick AWD and I ordered it. Love my truck. Area 51 color.
forgot to say. Fog lights would be nice. Ford please put some on this truck.I am getting 30 mpg in town here in Fort Myers with the EcoBoost AWD
I own a 22 XLT hybrid and love it. I don't think a sunroof is necessary on these.
Since when does the maverick have soft release for the trunk?
I'm with you, this one need a fog light 💯 about the sunroof i dont care, because i never liked the sunroof 😅 3:00 - 4:46
Good luck finding one at MSRP. Here in Miami, the base model XL, goes for 28K.
Compact trucks have been absent from the market for too long. And yes, I can't get my Ram 1500 to fit in the garage like my older gen F150! Mavericks are "truckier" than the Santa Cruz, and the hybrid is a great gas saver, true. A fully loaded Maverick Lariat (with moonroof) is about $40,000 MSRP, while a fully loaded Santa Cruz Limited is about $42,500. BUT............. Ford dealers mark them up, some dealers here in the Tampa area are charging up to $10,000 over MSRP. Hyundai dealers are dealing below MSRP. A used base model no-option Maverick XL is more expensive than a new mid trim Santa Cruz SEL. Trying to find a Maverick with the 4k Tow Package (4,000 lbs) isn't easy. Yet, out of the box, any Santa Cruz non-turbo can tow 3500 lbs, and the turbo models 5,000 lbs. Interior quality is much better in the Hyundai, although the bed is about 6" shorter. I hope other manufacturers market compact trucks soon so we have more choices, and hopefully minimize the dealer practice of inflating sales prices far in excess of MSRP.
I got my AWD 4K XL 2023 Maverick for $500 under MSRP, plus $49 paperwork, so deals do exist for this vehicle if you directly order them from Ford. I did pay cash.
The Maverick has oddball sizing in my opinion. It's as narrow as my subcompact Kia Forte, not much taller (it's shockingly small when you actually stand next to it), but it's also much longer than most mid-sized cars. So you can drive it OK in the city but not well like my Kia. It does fit in my garage but not easily from front to back.
A small bed works fine for 90% of what I carry (refrigerators, bicycles and motorcycles, ovens, furniture, couches, so on) and for some of those you can put the tail down.
In retrospect, buying the 4K was a waste of good money. I've only used AWD once when I went through some gnarly trails but I realize now that it's best to park the truck on pavement and ride/walk over those trails. A mountain bike can go so much faster over those trails than a low-ground clearance Maverick.
There is no better ride review channel on the internet. Yeah if you're going to with the Lariat trim, you may as well spend the money on the sunroof. I'm not getting one as I have a Bronco but I love all of your review videos.

Nice one, but can you review a ram pickup truck 2024?
Isnt the infotainment on the f150 larger?
I just went to ford site and option it out. I went with a hybrid 2.5 L. It does come with a sunroof but it’s gonna be about 40,000 thousand dollars if you option out almost everything on it.
With trucks, always go with the tow package. If nothing else the increased cooling will help longevity and make it easier to sell when the time comes. The Maverick makes a lot more sense at the lower trims IMO. At 40K you are bumping into the Ridgeline which is a considerably more substantial truck.
I'm watching this and seeing all these nice features, and wondering how Ford justifies the price of the Bronco Sport.
I'm gonna check, if you already havn't dont it but you should review the hybrid and compare the two.

Nice, but need fog lights!!
Wish there was enough of this truck to support sales demand. There are thousands more customers who want one but can't get one.
I agree. This could have been the next huge sales windfall of the original Mustang, IF they had anticipated the huge demand.
Depends on the price!

There is small secret on that truck or the hybrid kind is you can change to sport or regular or eco or snow and you can Lock it by your phone or turn on and it give you where it is and you can shutdown it by your phone if somebody steel it
The Ridgeline is good but way too expensive. I have a hybrid Maverick XLT. Paid 25k out the door! I have moved a house with it while getting 45mpg! The only reason for anything else is if you need to tow more than 4k or do extreme off-roading.
I’m a F150 guy, but I love these lil trucks, look great and I think there’s a ton of folks out there this is the perfect truck for, I’m wondering if Ford could have built them just how many they would have sold?
Remember, big screen usually means no physical controls. My pick is smaller screen and full physical controls.
That is a good rule of thumb.
I do like ford goal which was to make this cheap as possible, and right now there isn’t really anything else like this except the Santa Cruz
My wife's uncle walked into several dealerships and asked if they were marking up the price of the Mav's. When he got to the one that said they weren't, he ordered his. It can be done, you just have to find the dealerships that don't jack the price up, just like Ford said they weren't going to do.
