    This was an interesting video to do! I think blockchain technology could be a good thing in the luxury world, but I also have some hesitations. What is your opinion? And if you know anything else about the topic, I'd love to hear it! I will say, I saw some talk about how the Chanel plates ARE chipped, but I got no actual confirmation from SAs and couldn't find any statements from Chanel itself.

    Hi everyone! In regards to Chanel I did see some talk about how the Chanel plates ARE chipped, but I got no actual confirmation from SAs and couldn't find any statements from Chanel itself. What are your thoughts on blockchain technology?

    The more I think about this move, the more I think that it actually returns exclusivity to luxury. Perhaps this will return luxury to its origins... people buy less frequently, primarily from the boutique which is the luxury experience. This is in contrast to the ‘fast fashion approach to luxury.
    Sadly those chasing past seasons pieces on the second hand market stand to loose the most from this change finding it more difficult to authenticate items.
    Great detailed video! Thank you foe your time and efforts in pulling it all together in a concise way!

      I actually am planning to make a video on the luxury market turning into a form of fast fashion! I certainly think it would be interesting to see if this affects buying in general. It would be nice to avoid flipping.

    I'm a fan of the Chanel decision -- that authenticity card that was so easy to fake and that was just another thing to keep track of. And I'm not sure how exactly this will help stop resellers, but I'm definitely happy if it does. The LV choice, I'm not so fond of, mainly because I don't trust the technology. I mean, if I buy a bag and it comes in contact with a magnet, or some other electronic device, that messes with the chip, or if the chip gets physically damaged, and then I go into a boutique to get an item repaired, are they going to think its fake because it doesn't scan?

      Given that we are told not to put a hotel key anywhere near our phone (which is such an inconvenient pain), I agree with your concerns (obviously a hotel key is easily programmable & therefore extremely easily wipeable). Also how does everyone’s electronic cars affect the same if you put your bag in the trunk next the battery bank? Those batteries are no joke. Has anyone had the chip in their Amex/credit card messed with by the same?

      I think that's an excellent point on the LV chips. Technology isn't foolproof! Things break. Then what?

  • @vendradi
    @vendradi Před 3 lety +4

    Thank you for sharing this information about the changes. I have experienced the LV chip already. I bought a piece and returned it and the sales manager scanned the bag for the chip. It was quite interesting to watch. It took her a minute to find the chip and get it to register on the device. Even though I knew the piece was authentic as I was returning it to the same store where it was purchased, I was a little nervous waiting for the scanning device to read authentic.
    And yes, please make a video about resellers. I think they are the problem with the pre-loved market. I think if the stock going on the market was primarily coming from individuals ready to rotate out pieces in their own collection there might be fewer pieces being sold above retail and folks would actually be able to find the new pieces in-store.

    I can see how chips and little metal tags may help deter selling a replica as an authentic bag. However, my guess is the vast majority of replicas are sold as replicas. And those buying aren’t going to care whether it has a chip or a metal tag. They are only going to be concerned with how “genuine” it looks while it’s being carried. No one will be looking into those bags for a hidden metal tag or a chip that can’t be scanned other than at a boutique... unless you are buying it as an authentic bag. I fear this will make both buying and selling preloved bags much more difficult and stressful.

    I love Chanel but in order to control “resellers” they need to start in house 😐. IMO, as long as SAs, upper Management and these clients resellers are all connecting, there will be resellers. Hopefully there will be some control in this situation w/new restrictions in place.

    • @classicswithaquirk
      @classicswithaquirk  Před 3 lety +1

      I agree. There has to be SAs involved in the reselling business and unless that stops, other measures will likely not help.

    I’m curious what happens if I buy a chipped preloved piece and take it to LV repair. They’ll scan it and see I’m not the original owner, how do I prove I came to own it legitimately and can get my details put in the chip? I think they are looking to delegitimise reselling. Ultimately I think the big brands will offer part exchange schemes etc so they control what happens to the older items

  • @agneslam7211
    @agneslam7211 Před 3 lety +2

    I received confirmation from 2 CAs from Louis Vuitton that the chips are not linked to the buyer in any way. They only contain info about the item.

  • @roseg1333
    @roseg1333 Před 3 lety +3

    I don’t like the idea of a scan chip. Mostly for the reason that it will be much harder for a person to buy a bag on the second hand market and also if you are not a VIP at the boutique you may never be able to get the bag you want because once they sell out they sell out.

  • @Bella-yb6gg

    My local LV store will not authenticate a piece but you can bring in a piece for repair and if not real they will say so and not touch the bag. Ive brought a couple pieces in to have cleaned or repaired and the authentic they will accept. About reselling I feel the bag is MINE bought and paid for and if I want to sellit I should be able too! None of their business what I do with MY bag!

    Honestly, I couldn't care less about the date codes. My Pochette Metis has the new RFID chip and actually, I appreciate it because if I need a repair later down the line it's easier if things are logged digitally.

      True, buying something yourself from the boutique is the best thing! I do worry about what happens if day the chip malfunctions. Technology isn't infallible. If the chip breaks, would the store then think my item is inauthentic? I am hoping to find out more information on this!
