  • Today I'm visiting Ricky at ‪@REPerformanceUK‬ - the renowned R8 and Lamborghini specialist - to talk engines. We're looking at the 5L that you'll find in early Gallardos like mine, and seeing just how different it is to an Audi 5.2L V10, like you'd find in the R8 or the Gallardo LP560

      I think the engine is actually made in Hungary and final assembly is done at neckersulm, but has always been an Audi engine. Jayemm did a vid recently on the differences and history. Well worth a watch.

      @Hypersonik Před 3 lety +3

      Oh it's worse than that. Catalytic converters kill engines in all good ways.
      One should always get in their car and drive it, but you see people start their car, let it sit for ten minutes etc. WRONG. Lots of fuel dilution to get cat heated up, bore wash and you're done. Get in car. Start car. Put seatbelt on. Drive. When engine and oil are warm, give it some.

    Huracan and G2 R8 bodies are built in Audi Sport’s Böllinger Höfe plant (Heilbronn)
    Both vehicles are painted at the Audi Neckarsulm plant.
    G2 R8 has final assembly back at Böllinger Höfe, Huracan’s final assembly is in Italy. (Sant’Agata)
    Engines for these cars are built in Audi’s Györ plant in Hungary.

      @@th3b0untyhunter Your comment was unnecessarily dismissive and not in the least bit constructive. I doubt the engine rebuilds in which this man plies his trade will be the worse for a few dropped Ts. This comment section is overwhelmingly positive towards Ricky's ability to deliver information clearly and in an interesting manner, so you misfired there as well. Even this mini-thread, in which you posted your hand-wringing whinge, started with a complimentary comparison to the great Iain Tyrrell. It has only just dawned on me that you might indeed be Iain Tyrrell and that you are not OK with the comparison, hence your stance. If that is the case, I take it all back. However, I doubt Iain would refer to his own intelligence and then misspell criticising. As you will not be replying, I will simply wish you well and hope that you can find some peace and tranquility to enjoy the simple things and cease the hunt for the negative in everything you experience. Be well, be safe and have wonderful rest of your day.

    Excellent video and lots of issues were well explained. I wonder if the CAT issue is the same on the Murcielago? Time to do some research.

    A 90 degree block(V8 based) instead of a 72 degree block is the reason for a split pin crank or 90/54 degree firing, just one more bit of information that may need to be explained.

    One of the best videos I've seen on any channel. So informative. Any chance he can discuss the V12 in a 550/575. I'd like to know what to look out for. By the way Jay, after watching your discussion on putting your 550 through the premium package I approached my local dealer here in Oz. As a consequence I am the first person in Australia to do the program. I am putting my 575 into the shop as soon as the parts arrive. So thanks for sharing that as well.
