In my most honest opinion, Japan takes sound quality THE MOST seriously.
I'm an audiophile so when i went to Iwakuni, Japan for 6 months, I loved Japan so much I ended up staying for 2 yrs. I was in audio heaven.
Lucky you!!
I think Japan became a paradise for audiophiles because of their attention to detail . For recordings, Japanese pressings are always high quality and usually include bonus tracks that you don't find anywhere else. Many rock bands' best live albums are "live in Japan" albums, because of the quality of recording - they always use the best equipment available. Also, Japanese record shops... they are like Disneyland to audiophiles.
Indeed!
And because of very high level of musical culture & knowledge. And because they not loosed "touch" of music. I don't know any audiophile cafe in Germany.Even before pandemic was no such places here. In place where most of classical music born no place to drink nice cafe & listen great cello trio.
I recently bought my first Japanese vinyl LP ; Very impressed! It seems that Japanese people have a real respect for music and culture no matter where it is from.
@@freeman10000 Great! If you are buying used records, pick LPs with obi whenever possible, as they have a better resell value.
a trip there is definitely on my bucket list !
Haha....Akihabara in Tokyo is the biggest hi-fi "debauchery" in the world. This neighborhood is a must visit! My father was there way back in 1982. He said great things. Great video, I hope to visit Japan one day. Greetings from Bulgaria!
Japan is another planet out of time and international market, especially on vintage things. i love this place
And for audio it's crazy
That's one thing very nice about record shops . . . there's ALWAYS interesting sound happening.
Japan is like another planet for audiophiles. Just amazing.
True!
Thank you for sharing with us this incredible voyage into a different culture! Fantastic AnaDialog!!!
The third shop did nice . . . "all".
I have always wanted to visit Japan, not just as a hi fi buff but also for the culture.
Same here! It was beyond my expectations....must go back one day and see also Hokkaido...
@@anadialog I used to spend a lot of time watching NKJ Japan when I had satellite reception. They make some awesome programs.
Great video. Enjoyed how you showed a slice of the culture through Audio.
I love how every single shop has everything meticulously orderer and well presented, so cool.
Me too...its amazing how tidy and clean everything is. In one of these shops (Bootsy's), which i did not include in the video (but its address in the video description) I realized only after a while that I was handling...used records they were so clean!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love it. Many thanks for taking us with you for this magical journey.
Thank YOU!
I am amazed. Beeing a hifi man myself I fantasized out establishing a Cafe with good coffee and with a highest of quality hifi system for the customers to listen to just imagining if people would like it. And there it is existing in the real world in Japan....Amazing
I remember finding Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies EP in Akihabara (I was stationed in Tokyo at the time) 6 months before it hit the shelves in the US. I don't know how, but it happened. I still feel like I was in another space and time when I lived in Japan. This was the early nineties, of course.
Beautiful video, and a great trip!
That's one the best programs, nice, cool and elegant. Congratulations and for music lovers Japan es el cielo del sonido. Bravo! GPs
The Audiophile capital of the world, excluding China. I heard that there is a mall in Japan dedicated to audiophiles, Ian from vyfinews showed it on his channel. This is a once in a lifetime trip, wow man enjoy.
if you know the name of this mall , let us know !! will visit next time in japan
@@danielbdbe I just re looked at Ians video HiVyNyws and the mall is actually in Singapore and its the Aldephi Mall, my fault I thought it was in Japan.
hi thanks for the information . daniel from france
The audiophile world in China is still in its infancy but it's there just in a smaller number. I mean, lots of hifi equipment are made in China so it does get into the hands of local consumers. Of course, hifi requires lots of disposable income and more likely to be found in cities where people are going to have more financial resources. Also, a lot of the audiophiles in China are in cities such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province since they've had closer and earlier exposure to the audiophiles in Hong Kong.

Cool tour!
Fantastic video! Keep up the good work!
Beautiful 👍👍👍✨✨✨
Thank you very much for doing this video. I love every minute of it.
Thanks Jose!
Très belle vidéo comme toujours. Bravo ana(dia)log !! Lot of tips for my next trip in Tokyo.
So cool to see Japan holding on to these record/cd shops located in and around back alleys and little quaint streets very endearing to me as it was like this in parts of Australia with fond memories like 78 records in Perth with its winding staircase heritage building with creaking timber floors and BAM record/cd heaven, sadly gone
Record hunting is so much fun. In an on-line ordering and consuming world, we need to go back to this!
Great video. Looks like you could find a lot of amazing albums and equipment there.
Love the Jazz Kissaten in Japan! Nice video, I definitely have to go there some day 👍👍
Amazing SACD shelf
The three guys playing at the end so nice
Wonderfully shot vlog! Makes me want to go back to my old stomping grounds in Osaka.
I visited Yodobashi and Tower records in Tokyo lasted year. Amazing!
Japanese people love their vintage JBL horn loaded speakers, on wooden blocks.
Wooden blocks is the Japanese version of isoaccoustics gaia 😂😂😂
Wow, a trip to japan... now definitly on my bucket list..grazie mille!
Thank you soooo much for posting this.......I’m going
Only very good and best for music. Amazing !
Hey great video Anadialog! Thanks for sharing a little bit of your trip to Japan.
Thank YOU!
Thank you for posting this!!!!
Thank YOU!
I was stationed in Japan and jazz and audio is fantastic!
I love your video!
Fantastic trip to Japan as an audio-phile!! Enjoyed this. You found the best places with highest listening experience. Thanks for being thoughtful enough for listing the places that you visited, I just might replicate your trip down to the smallest details!! ;)
Man everything about this video was great but your picture is priceless. Awesome!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic, these places are hard to find, thanks for sharing. Great suggestion; Rome Jazz bar with the Chianti, cheeses, prosciutto perfect match.
You just listed my typical snack! ;-)
That was really nice, I enjoy experiencing other cultures...
Had a great vinyl shopping adventure last May!!!! ENJOY
Best video you have done..I really enjoyed watching
Wow thanks Barrie!
What a journey !
Thank you for sharing it with us.
I hope that you will show us what you bought
Absolutely! I just need some time to listen to everything so I can give some good advice instead of a mere list
glued to your video, and subscribed!
Thanks Jaime!
Great video, as a Jazz lover myself, I'd love to go there one day, but you showcased it very well👍
Thanks man!
Great video! Hopefully I might get out there in the next few years
You should!
I was recently in Japan and loved it. I wish I had watched your CZcams video first as it would have saved me a heap of time trying to find these record stores. Disk Union was fantastic with there four different stores and I was in heaven there. I filled my suitcase with vinyl which I could never afford to do here in Australia. The availability of new and second hand hifi gear is amazing with everything and anything on offer. Great episode and I’m definitely going back to Japanese with an empty suitcase next time.
Great job!
I liked the clubs with live jazz
Around 22:18: those boomboxes were made for Japanese Domestic Market only with FM band range from 76-92 mHz and 100 Voltage 50/60 Hz, compared those with what you have in your home country: 88-108 mHz, 120 Volt 60 Hz in USA and Canada, while in Europe 87.5-108 mHz, 230 Volt 50 Hz. Before you buy any electronics equipment in Japan, PLEASE MAKE SURE that it comply with electronics standard back in your country, otherwise, you will regret it.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Looks amazing! :)
Indeed...obvisouly I went to see much more and I truly love their amazing and variegated culture!
ANA[DIA]LOG I know right!!! They have the best releases sometimes and I love the OBI strips on it. Makes it a collectable!
Great video !
Exquisite video. Thanks so much! Felt like I was with you.
Thanks man!
A journey I always dreamed of. Thanks for sharing this video and make me feel jealeous ;(
😂
Audiophile heaven 😯
Piotr Biedowicz love your Electric Light Orchestra Out of the Blue profile pic great album
Love the Jazz focus of this. Japan is a wonderland for shopping. I was impressed with the quality and variety on Okinawa, but am sure it is even better on the mainland.
Okinawa...hope to go back one day and see it! Stay tuned for a special episode with my album selection...!
@@anadialog Cool! Me too, I was there from 85-89 at Kadena as a dependent.
Interesting video, loved it you covered a lot of Japan . Thanks for finding that shop that specializes in cassettes everyone thinks their a thing of the past but not me, only wish I could have seen some of the prices of those boom boxes. Amazing country indeed
Most of them were 30/40.000 yen if I remember correctly. I am sure if you ask them they will tell you the prices!
Green with envy.
Looking at your name...I think you would be in heaven!
YOU LOOK GREAT IN THAT KIMONO AND WITH THAT SWORD, GREAT VIDEO,...AWESOME MATE !!
Wonderful! I am distributer of Kondo, Audio Note Japan and,yes that's great all this beautiful places in Japan,in final, they are great lovers of culture, all what is going slowly away every where else! All my respect for them and for you making that great video!
Thanks Georges!
I unfortunately got into vinyl after my trip there, definitely going to head back and see this side of japan. Great vid!
Yeah!
Amazing to see a real Hammond B3 in a jazz club Japan.
Exactly! Finally someone noticed this!
This video is great mate! I love Japan. ❤️ BTW if you recall please share the places (shops etc) you visited in a small list.
OK, will do! Thanks!
Bellissimoooo!!!!!
I always wandering how Japanese cultur import best of the best things from European culture, but stays still Japanese culture and today in most ways surpasses European one.Great respect to Japan!
Great video
Thanks Matthew!
You speak amazing English. Enjoyed the video a lot. Thanks
Thanks, I am 50% USA but born and raised in Italy
Really enjoyed this one, thanks for filming some of your trip. BTW, Waltz have a great Instagram feed if you’re a tape-junkie or graphic designer.
Nice! If I could travel, I'd go there. This video was on my home page, in the "Recommended" section right at the top, #3. I thought I'd check it out, and I'm glad I did.
Cool, thanks so much!
@@anadialog You're welcome. As I checked your channel, I realized I watched another video of yours but didn't subscribe- it was the double-speed cassette deck.
Not only japan has it but one of the biggest audiophile store in the world.
" Thank you so much for this informative video Sir 💜 and a. Peaceful new year too all 💜
d 🤕
@ANA[DIA]LOG Thank you so much for having shown us the Waltz cassette shop, I think you are the only person in the West on youtube who was able to show us the insde in details. Thank you. Did you see any portable cassette player sold in Japan, more walkmans beside that of Waltz? any good shops?
THANKS! Not many but I am planning to return and hunt better...things are rapidly changing!
Grande!!!
Tower Records underground? An interesting concept :)
Wow!! The black man is revered!!!
You bet!
Nice video man :-)
cant believe i havent seen this, japan is THE place to shop for hifi gear esp stuff from the 70s n 80s
Can't wait to go back...and shoot part 2! 🤪
Merci infiniment pour cette magnifique vidéo ! Je rêve de me rendre dans ce pays pour dépenser tout mon argent dans des CD. Greetings from France ! :)
21:18 My god, a stack of cassettes of Ayler's "Spiritual Unity"... won't find THAT in the States.
Wow! I really enjoyed that.
If I was there I would probably have taken out a mortgage to pay for all the stuff I brought back home.
So much cool stuff.
Thanks! Indeed....next time, double luggage!
@@anadialog Metal Jesus Rocks, who has a popular retro gaming youtube channel recently visited japan and sent quite a bit of his haul home through the post office, expensive but convenient.
the first part is here: czcams.com/video/HN2SVE8mGgI/video.html.
Really interesting video. If i went there, my wife would have to drag me out of the record shops ( she does in England as well). I would probably spend far too much money.
Humm....sounds familiar! ;-)
Cooles Video🖖
Great vid! I live in the US, and have had the great fortune of visiting Japan twice in the past 10 yrs or so. I visited a few of those very shops you went to, and ended up buying so many records that I had to pick up one of those hard shell DJ record cases, which became my 2nd carry on. I certainly wasn’t about to put all those Japanese pressed gems in with my checked luggage!
I ❤️Japan, and if I moved outside of the US, it’d either be to Tokyo or London.
What do you think is the coolest piece of music (vinyl, CD, or cassette) that you found there and just had to buy? Did you pick up any new gear, like a cartridge or anything too?
Cool! How long was your flight? Mine 13 hrs...🤯 best album?! Eh eh...I will do a special video on Japan Jazz soon! No, no new gear...I spent too much! ;-)
One of my favorite neighborhoods in Tokyo, that I've spent quite a lot of time in over the years is Ochanamizu. It's famous for it's many record shops, book shops, and musical instrument shops. Some of the stores you show in this video look very familiar. Next time you decide to travel to Japan, check out a bar called "Woodstock Cafe" in Ochanamizu. The owner is an audiophile, with thousands of LP's behind the bar that he's collected all over the world. It's really a lot of fun to hang out with him and listen to his collection.
How cool! I will! Thanks 😊
It's Ochanomizu (御茶ノ水)
@@spinalcrackerbox You're right, I misspelled it.
I should go there, no,no, I must go there....
I have not been to Japan in 19 years, but even then, I remember the media and products being cost prohibitive. Back when CD's were $10.99, in Japan they worked out to $30+ each based on 180 Yen to the dollar.
Things seem to have changed now...
I am amazed how you were able to find these amount of stores and Jazz café by yourself. But how missed some of the hifi stores like audiounion or tereon. They are more focused on hi-end audio gears and accessories.
Also there’s and instagram account dedicated for Jazz cafés in Japan called jazz_kissa (which means Jazz café in Japanese). I think you could find it to be quite interesting. Also if you encount any problem reading Japanese, i could provide some help. Great video, thanks again for sharing how the hifi scene is like in Japan.
Thank you. The problem is that I could not dedicate all the time I wanted to hifi...only some spare time on a few days...
ANA[DIA]LOG That’s so true! I live in Tokyo but I still find myself lacking of time enjoying my hobby as an audiophile. It’s a luxury in my opinion to devote yourself into the things you love.
great video.can you show us the stuff that you picked up there.it would be a nice video.
Upcoming!
Invidia Pura !!!! ;-)
Sono stato in Giappone due volte, paese meraviglioso! Purtroppo non mi è stato possibile fare acquisti audiofili. Ma ho preso due laserdisc, Beatles e David Bowie :-)

NICE! This was cool. I think I visited in Kobe like in really small record store. And Book Off. Did you visit any HardOff or BookOff? Often HardOffs have also some interesting used music devices.
mr. Finglish (Bäd English Recs)
Nope! Next time!
@@anadialog All ready planning next time? ;) I have planning my next time almost 10 years now. :D
BookOff and Disk/Audio Union are both good for used recordings and equipment.
Martin Tousignant oh Diskunion goes to same categhory. Good to know for the next time.
Thanks for the very nice video ! I have been in tokyo last summer for few days r but could not find such places!! (apart of tower records ) I would suggest you to list thé names and adresses of such places , daniel from france
Will do! Thanks!
Thank you for this mini vacation. I wish I was there in person, though, lots of fun in those shops. Were you bothered much by the salesmen? Were they fluent in English?
Thanks! I always asked if I could shoot and they were always very nice...no, very few spoke English!
It's great to see that there are apparently still places where people care about quality and about the experience of going into a record store or an electronics store. It seems like in the USA and Europe, music has gone to crap, media (like CD's) has gone to crap and audio equipment has gone to crap. Places like BestBuy only have a few systems, all made in China from the cheapest components, with a sound quality that's barely "good enough", not even a Bass and Treble control, etc. Seeing this video makes me wish we could have the 1980s and 1990s back, before everything got destroyed by greedy companies that just wanted to make a quick buck off music lovers that can afford to buy less and less.
I sadly agree...
@Otie Jason look up "loudness wars".
Anyone know what version of Bad Guy is it, the one playing at 11:40 ?
Thanks for the tour. Would love to go there someday, although the wallet would be strained, I am sure! Where did you have the photo taken with the kimono and sword? Is it like a photo shop you can go to to have that done?
Yes exactly! Actually I am not that insane...its my wife that wanted to get dress as a Maiko and so she needed a Samurai! ;-)
Yeah but who wants to pay $45 for a cd? Cool video & god bless. Love all my mid fi and Hi end Japanese made Analog gear.
