I thought it was one of the most pretentious and obnoxious superhero movies I've ever seen.
Pretentious and obnoxious are sadly the best words to describe the 2hour trailer
It was pure fucking GARBAGE. All the Reeve movies are better. Even the Routh and Helen Slater movies are better. Man of Steel is a misguided, mean spirited and depressing video game.

Superman is a very popular character people would have seen Man of Steel if it was lightheaded.
I diddent mind Henry Cavill as Superman, the problem was that all the movies he played the character I just found pretty awful. Christopher Reeve can never be beaten in this role in my opinion.
Henry Cavill wasn't the problem, it was the script.

Man of Steel is pretty much the Superman version of The Amazing Spider-Man with the dull colors, the tone, idiotic ways on how they killed off the father figure characters, the retelling of the origin story.

If you're a Zack Snyder fan then no.
Idk...the way I viewed it was that Jonathon was worried about ppl seeing Clark use his powers, causing a conflict where he likely saw things go down a very dark path for Clark (like Brightburn) especially if the government were to get involved....and thought it was better to sacrifice himself, then allow the possibility of that happening....because of that experience Clark seemingly feels isolated and losing Jonathon also meant losing his mentor and became less cautious over time but still working anonymously (as with truck..nobody would put that together it being Clark since metahumans (outside of Wonder Woman) are not really a thing yet)...as for the codex...this is explained in the film, what exactly its used for is mentioned, and ultimately why its never brought up again is with the destruction of the Genesis Chamber ....there are no Kryptonian embryo's to use the codex on (which I felt the codex was something that was going to be used for Darkseid's arc in a future film, since it sounds alot like a form of the Anti-life Equation)
As for why didn't Jor-El go with Clark.....You have to pay attention to what the codex does and how it operates, and how it relates to the destruction of Krypton...Jor-El knew he couldn't go because of the "progrmming by the codex" coupled with the powers he would acquire would be just as corrupting to him as it would be for Zod and soon result in earth suffering a similar fate....plus he was expecting Zod to die with the planet....no way he foresaw Zod being protected by being sent to the Phantom Zone....or the explosion being enough to open a rift to release him afterwards lol
While I whole heartedly disagree with you here as I felt like like this was a more realistic version of Comic book Superman (especially with the more modern iteration)....I definitely respect your opinion

Despite the fact they were in the middle of an tornado which no one would had seen him.
It would had been better if Jonathan had an heart attack or stroke and on his death bed tells Clark he can't save everyone.
Also Man of Murder is more evil then Brandon as he got more people killed given he didn't think to bring the fight out of the city near the end of the film.
@@ramboraph4life thats why I said he starts being less careful after Jonathan's death....with his "father" no longer there to be the voice of caution and pulling him from using his powers openly...kind of like a kid losing they're supervision of an adult...even the best of children will begin to slip on the lessons they're taught...especially if Martha doesn't have the same viewpoint
@@michaelmenei5403 Jonathan wasn't willing to take that chance...as miniscule as it may have been during the tornado.....Jonathan was a touch more of a paranoid version of the character...which makes sense given the situation of harboring an alien with godlike abilities for years
As for Superman not taking the fight away from ppl....we are talking literally day one Superman (who barely mastered flying) going against a military trained kryptonian in Zod (who adapted to his powersfar quicker then Clark)...Clark wasn't going to be able to dictate the fight location at all...plus this is not the first Superman brawl that happened in a populated city...and its certainly not the first time its cost casualties (speaking about the comics)

Yeh this film sucks I am a big fan of superman read alot of the comics and it baffles me how fans of the character can love this film when it's the complete antheiss of what he represents as a character his morals and his optimism in the face of adversity is this characters strength but basically they stripped it all away to make him a batman clone
Some Superman fans like this movie better than other Superman stories because Zack Snyder changed Superman into a self-interested character from the old altruistic one.
Still one of the most disappointing superhero films ever IMO. MOS, BVS and JL should have ended up being much better than they turned out to be, but so far I've been enjoying the newer Warner Bros/DC films, especially Aquaman, Shazam and Joker. As long as Synder's stuff gets left behind I'm all for it.
@Dylan Morris they're gonna overhaul the entire DCEU. Hopefully they make it a proper multiverse. They're gonna get rid of that weirdos Ezra Miller and that bitch Amber Heard.

I think Zack Snyder and David S Goyer were the jocks who would beat up comic book geeks in high school. And these are the guys writing and directing comic book movies. 😏
Hey Matt i recommend you give Smallville a shot if you haven't, it is to me the greatest superhero show of all time and i believe you'll enjoy it.

This movie just pisses me off on several levels, because I know that a decent Superman movie probably could have been made using some ideas from the script of this movie. But man, this movie just looks and feels dull to me! Even the gray color grading and camera filtration makes the movie look pale and lifeless.
The codex is just one more example in a litany of McGuffin's that far too many movies rely upon to push some hackneyed plot forward that the audience couldn't give a shit and fuck less about!
In the final battle with Zod, Superman doesn't even attempt to try and lead Zod out of the city. I get that Zod is as strong or stronger than Kai El/Superman is, but damn man, at least throw Zod into the ground zero crater of Metropolis or to the nearby rural areas to fight Zod.
I do feel a bit bad for Henry Cavill however; I have seen him in other movies and shows where he has given out good performances, such as Mission Impossible: Fallout, and The Witcher series on Netflix, so I know that he can put out some good performances. But here, he is just looks and feels boring and wooden in this film. I know a lot of that can come down to direction and screenplay issues which this movie had a plethora of.
Yep, Linkara hit all the same points you talked about. The muted colors sucked, Superman is supposed to be bright, colorful, and uplifting. You can tell Zack Snyder doesn't give a fuck about Superman. He's just a middle aged EdgeLord.
I’d rather watch BVS then this movie because BVS was a way better movie then Man Of Steel but that’s just me.

Richard Paolotto neither are worth anyone’s time in my opinion. MoS at least has a plot that makes a LITTLE sense. BvS has a plot that makes ZERO sense. Both are awful.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree big time, This is my favorite Superman film and one of my favorite superhero films ever. Zack Snyder is one of my all time favorite directors and what he did with this movie was fantastic, it was a new type of Superman film not a lazy rehash of the Donner films like Superman Returns, which was heavily unoriginal. The dark and gritty tone I love, Snyder did what most superhero films should be doing and that is taking the source material seriously and not make a stupid comedy, it's good to have one once and awhile like Shazam but for a universe of different characters there should be difference in tone with each movie.
I love Henry Cavill as Superman, he's my favorite portrayal of the character and I love Reeve just as much. The whole cast does great, the action is awesome love it to death, I loved the fact that Snyder did something new and different, granted different isn't always good like Last Jedi or Universal Soldier Day of Reckoning, but I feel this is one of those times where it worked like Halloween 3 or the Lethal Weapon TV show. And in response to David Goyer, yea he's not the best writer at all but I feel Nolan, Snyder, Norrington, Del Toro and Sarafian styles took over, if you wanna see full on Goyer don't just watch Blade Trinity which is awful but also check out Ghost Rider 2 (even tho i have a kick in watching that movie) where Neveldine and Taylor's vision melded perfectly with Goyer's. Yea the She Hulk comment, to be honest I kind of found it a little funny, it's kind of true because look at the design of She Hulk, she's not as big as the Hulk at all, male readers wouldn't find her sexy if she looked like Hulk sized. Hans Zimmer's score is excellent, love that theme. Anyways I know that was long but I just wanted to get it off of my chest, not trying to change your opinion I'm just telling you mine, solid job on the review nevertheless.

I respect your opinion Matt but I really enjoy the film since I saw it in the theater although I saw in IMAX 3D and left with a headache after it was over from the loudness. I still remember your first review when you called it "Man of Steel Boner" LMAO!!, as for the film I liked Henry Cavill as Clark/Superman, it is a good looking film. I saw when BVS came out the haters of this film after watching BVS now appreciate and like the film even more.

I watched Linkara's review of this movie the other day and he tore it a new asshole 😆. And he didn't like Hans Zimmer's score at all. He also brought up all the Jesus Christ references throughout the movie. He pretty much brought up everything you just said. Especially the garbage writing by that fucking hack David S. Goyer. Great review BTW.
