A little update tho that I forgot to add to the video, at the time I had no food handlers as I wasn’t sure how serious I would take it however I went ahead and did all necessary legal documents such as food handlers and got myself informed about everything so I now have a food handlers and do the necessary practices as well❤️❤️ keep safe guys❤️ nothing but love for you all🫶🏻

Porridge is a wholesome Food. It's nutritional, and healthy.
I would suggest you make 3 big signs. Hot Porridge daily.
One for the front and the other 2 on the sides, so people can see the signs from afar.
Sell some water too.
Decor your stand. Make it attractive.
Always pray before you leave out mornings and give thanks in the evening to God.

It’s a blessing that you feed the children in school. 40+ years my aunt used to take sandwiches and milk to school , because she knew some of the parents couldn’t afford to feed the kids. May God bless your porridge business ❤

Here is what you do. Make your porridge and hire a black Jamaican to sell it. If you notice the most successful business own by whites in Jamaica is fronted by blacks.
You have to learn how the country see you and work it in your favor.

My grandma use to sell a roadside ina Kingston to take care a mi uncles and aunties. So respect and guidance. A hustle will only go as far as the hustler willing to take it. Don't ever give up!!

Like any business still, you have to feel out the market. Many people dont like oats porridgefor real, or take their own breakfast to work so you have to take that into consideration. Also, advertise it ahead of time at the school or work places close by. It takes time. Keep the faith and you will reap rewards🎉

Nena, I have an idea for you the same market you are trying to capture.; do a promotion/ sample tasting to them. Go down to the school connect with the principal and say your promoting Nena Porridge and would love to set up a morning where the teachers can try the porridge. Make sure to have cups with lids some promotional stuff ( get a laminated posture made with a picture of you with the name of your business) or get a Polo or T-shirt with your branding. Give some nutritional facts to the ingredients.
I like how you wear your hair in a ponytail when serving. Wearing a cap is a plus if you don't want to wear the hair net, also, wearing gloves ( essentialloves is essential as well). Aways remember people eat with their eyes first before they decide to taste it ( how does the environment look, how is the food presented).
Connect with some businesses too banks, and government offices.
I hope you see this, and it helps. Sometimes you need people rejecting your business to think beyond them. When you become known brand, you're going to hear " A long time me a support har enuh"

I like how you have tried to act on an initiative by making porridge for people commuting to work. Have you thought of putting up some signs a few mins drive near to where you are based and one where you are selling n maybe they may stop or to give a small cups with free samples of porridge. I have a different outlook, the first week is new for everybody , for you and the customers. Don't complain, just give it time. After a while with consistency, the same people will be your main supporters.

Remember yuh white and Jamaicans have ideas of white. Yes, I see that you are white and so does everyone passing by. It is a challenge for people , even when you are them friend and kumbolo dem still (subconsciously) habour the inferior and esteemed complex.
It has nothing to do with you these persons not buying the porridge. It is just an internal discourse in dem Jamaican self. If to begin you had hired someone black and sent them out their to sell the porridge, it would sell. If you had a polished and proper establishment out there instead of a stall it would sell. What you are experiencing is a very concrete issue. Do not stop doing you as being you will change the discourse.
Dont hate the people dem. Dont hold it against dem. Try identify ways you can break down de walls and erode the barriers.
Gwaan hold up yuh head and hold out mumma. Remember the discourse is not personal, it is traditional and historic.

When are you going to do such a business? Do your research, get a good area where you know that it is a great traffic flow. Make sure you have your signs up, alsomake sure that there are place where vehicles can park properly when they are stopping to make their purchase, also give your place a nice little design, such as making a little tash or bamboo place that looks attractive, set up your table your stove and also get other little things that could also intrest the buyer. I bet you will see your little kitchen make it. It does not matter who you are, or what you are if you setup your place right you will see changes.

A lot of us Jamaicans really don’t eat from unfamiliar sources. Especially if you’re not very credible in the field(compared to people you’ve seen so it for ages), 2. On you’re second day, it’s expected, a typical small business takes how long to get off the ground? Market your product, a sign, give weh some. Research instead of resorting to the idea that ppl are badmind, especially for the fact that ur business is new and ur putting it on the internet. N ps. Careful weh u put out dere pan d net cause u want the support still from all these people
This was the best thing you could have told her some people have a privileged mentality so they think that just because they say they are selling something that people will just come to them and buy.. NO SIR!! You have to build a relationship with the peope first!! You do not get customers going on the Internet calling people bad minded because they're not purchasing from you!! instead maybe give out some samples to people so they can try it and then they will trust that it's good and then they will buy. This girl need to change the way she thinks and maybe she will be successful.

Nina mi sister, last year this time I was in ur position selling soup and fry fish. It nuh easy mi family. I barely made any sales but I learnt a lot. I wanted to do deliveries, but soup hard fi transport like dat. Maybe u can build clients in the area like that? It would get people tuned in so if u decide to set up shop, ur advertisements will be a lot more effective. I used to give the food to elderly persons after the day's work. I'm actually not giving up still. Man a gwaan build the farm and then mi get across to that.
