TR&CI 129: Did You Know That You Actually Can Get Blightsteel Colossus Into The Graveyard

- In this episode of Tough Rules & Cool Interactions, I will be talking about a neat trick you can do if you're ever wanting to reanimate a Blightsteel Colossus. There are quite a few variations to this scenario but since I am currently under the weather and not feeling great, I tried to keep this episode pretty short and sweet. Hopefully one day you can pull off this little trick and blow the minds of your opponents.

The difference between in exile and exile face down is interesting.
All it takes is a small difference for a big result change in Magic.
Quite a roundabout way.
Get better soon!
Feeling better today, and yup, it's a very strange way to get the Colossus into the GY.
I love exiling cards face down! They make me so happy.....5:35 and now to somehow stay awake and edit this video.
I did stay awake. It was a quick edit, render, and upload.
Okay, this one threw me for a serious loop. I did not expect for there to be a way to bring him in from exile, but that it has to be face down for this to work, is very cool.
For sure, it's very cool that some abilities will still work from Exile, but just simply being face down is now a big game changer for how they function... or I guess don't function.
Sorry you are sick again, hope you get to feeling better soon. Despite the drugs, you did really well. I probably wouldn't have been able to tell anything was up.
Thanks! I do feel better today and I'm glad I didn't sound too drowsy in the video.
Would the same be true of placing Blighsteel onto the battlefield face down as a creature with morph or disguise (Such as with a Cryptic Coat)? I'm not checking the rules rn, but it seems a very similar situation. If would die, such as from combat, and go to the graveyard where it is revealed to be a blightsteel but it could not go back in time to replace its movement there.
Yup, very similar result through a different means.
Oh, I was expecting this to be something like Humility so that he loses the ability on the battlefield and then dies, but this one was much more strange. I had no idea there was a difference like that for a card being exiled face down. Very cool video.
Yup, that and a card like Dress Down or something like it being Manifested, those are the more common methods, but this one is... Weird.
@@ThisIsACommanderChannel Oh yeah, those as well.
Thanks for the video and I hope you feel better! I've been hooked ever since the Magar Graffdigger video
Thanks a bunch, glad you're enjoying all the videos. And yup, I'm feeling quite a bit better today. I'm glad you really liked that Magar video, it's one of my favorites as it's a perfect example of how reading the car no longer really explains the card.
Soul Sculptor it in play then Disenchant it.
I love that you know of that card. I love that card. I use it in two of my decks.
Love it! How crazy!! Hope you feel better soon 🙏
I feel much better now. I just wish I would get sick a different part of the week. Every time I get sick has been around the two days I work on these videos.
Hope you get well soon! Very interesting little trick, even if very niche.
Also extra kudos for the sick Black Knight artwork in the back. Recently put him in my janky, (mostly) Mardu Kenrith knight deck that I brewed from cards I had kicking around
That art is so sick! I wish I had a higher resolution version.
@@ThisIsACommanderChannel Damn forgot to answer. If you can't get a higher resolution version the regular way, but really really want it, you could try stuffing your version in some AI image tool like stable diffusion and use that to upscale it. Since I'm running my own local setup I am not sure if all the free online ones support that feature, but could be worth a look.
@@mfsoab Ah, I could look into that. I've never actually used any of the AI tools out there, but a lot of the arts I get for these videos are posted by people who did run them through an upscaler.
@@ThisIsACommanderChannel AI tools are really nice, if used in a good way, like upscaling and stuff. I learned how to upscale by hand in Photoshop back in the day and it is a pain in the butt 😅
It's kinda sad, that AI gets a bad rep, just because some people are doing wrong stuff with it.
@@mfsoab Yeah, it's a tool like all others. They exist to help make our day to day easier, but can be used with malicious intent. Hopefully over time things smooth over with AI and we wrangle it and figure it all out and how to police the bad aspects of its use.
I see how this works, but I feel like I'd need this exact video if I pulled it off just to explain why it works. In my pods, it'd just get Path'd immediately anyway.
Heh, that would be such a bummer, to pull this off, explain why it works, only to Path'd right after.
for some reason I'm imagining getting Colossus into the graveyard like convincing a large dog to take a bath, he doesn't wanna
A very.... Very large dog.
That's a crazy card with a wild cost. You really have to build your deck to be able to work with that, and I guess that Don does do that with a lot of theft cards that use exile.
Someone was playing a Don deck and milled a player's Colossus and that's what gave me the idea for the video.
Who gets the last laugh for running Processor Assault in their deck now!!
Oh snap! What deck you run that in? That's awesome that you can fit a card like that into your deck. I love to run wild cards people aren't used to seeing.
I wonder why Vigor gets a triggered ability instead of a replacement effect.
That is a solid question, and one I just don't have an answer to.
@@ThisIsACommanderChannel I wonder if we will ever learn why. Would be cool if wizards did dev logs like video games devs.
@@digitalworldsvr7881 That would be cool, I'm sure there are some solid blogs or articles out there from WotC staff.
