  • A 3 event printer comparison between: DNP DS620A VS Primera IP60 VS Sinfonia CS2 Printers.
    Motivated by a wish that there were more comparison videos for event/dye sub printers when I first started out, I decided to put together a quick and easy-to-understand one for anyone looking to get into onsite printing to add as to their studio's services.

    As you can see, each printer has its own advantages so there's never a clear cut winner in this business. Here's what I love about each printer (in no particular order):
    1) DS620A - Versatile, excellent print quality for both colour and black & white prints. Reliable workhorse, easy to change media including the ink roll tray, which makes that part easy with less chance of getting dust or fingerprints on internal parts. While heaviest of the three in this review, it is still manageable when using the right equipment bag/case. Solid construction / metal case / sensible indicator lights. With a 400 print capacity per roll, you also don't have to make as many media changes.
    2) CS2 - The feel and design appears to be from somebody in the photobooth business or they collected excellent feedback from photobooth owners. Smart use of indicator lights, status monitor software included (see how many prints you have left on screen), respectable 300 prints per roll with coloured spool so you know which side goes where easily. Paper ready light for when you do media changes is handy as it's hard to hear sound indicators during loud events. Based on feedback from other photobooth business owners, this is the most popular printer for physical photobooth rental companies. Great price point with lots of media cases available in the market.
    3) IP60 - Thermal Inkjet technology, allows you to change up the paper or the ink cartridge separately. Plastic casing which means overall lighter weight at an impressive 8 lbs! Multiple print size options without changing the media even up to 6x24" for panoramic shots. So many media types available including gloss, matte, luster, magnetic, postcard, and more. Great price point and neck and neck with the CS2 with a low cost per print.

    This will help in my decision, thank you. I really had y mind on the CS2, but the DNP seems like the better choice. Too bad is discontinued though...

    Great video! I recently bought a sinfonia cs2. Does it come with the blue and grey spacers for the paper. Or does it come with the media ?

      Andy thank you! Yes mine came with the blue and grey spacers. It only comes with media if the seller is offering a bonus with purchase which does happen quite frequently that I’ve seen.

    In future it is more helpful to the viewer to see printed or on-screen specs for each machine as you are talking about them. The inkjet machine appears to have a dual cartridge design suggesting one is for black and the other for a tri-color cartridge. That is an ancient design causing you to discard the whole cartridge when one of the colors runs out before the other two. Primera is known for doing this with their other types of printers like their direct to media printing (CDs, USB Flash Drives, etc). You can get superior print quality from a laser printer for less money. The can print to photo papers that are sheet fed so no curl from roll media. No heads to clean and waste ink on like all Inkjet printers, no smearing of dye based inks like with inkjets, no wasteful ribbons like the two other machines you have.

      I appreciate the comments and feedback. Definitely one of my earlier videos during the covid lockdowns. The primera thermal inkjet was an interesting experiment. It was their answer to dye sub printers and was discontinued for a while but they recently brought it back (late 2022) interestingly enough. I have not tried any laser printers that could print decent photo quality for events. Was there a model that you tried and like? I’d be interested to check it out!

    Hi! I’ve been trying to get the DNP printer for a long time now but its been out of stock forever. Which printer would you recommend for someone who’s printing for photobooth? I am looking specifically into one that can print and cut 2x6 as well. Any recommendations please? Thanks!

    • @Togger
      @Togger  Před rokem +1

      I still think the Sinfonia CS2 is a great alternative to the DNP 620. Decent speed, cost per print, quality, no watermark on the back of paper and also comes with a status monitor software so that it's easy to see how many prints are left.

    • @Togger
      @Togger  Před rokem

      I’m surprised to hear that as I really like the output from mine. How’s the quality of the digital file? You may have to check the colour profile settings on your computer and also the printer settings as there are two options - 1 for high speed and 1 for high quality prints. And then also check the colour profile setting in your printer preferences. Let me know if I can help further.

      Probably the CS2. The quality on the DS620 is better in my opinion, but Sinfonia CS2 media kits (ink/paper) has been more available regularly the past couple of years.

  • @photographermugen

    How loud are they?

    • @Togger
      @Togger  Před 2 lety +3

      The IP60 is quietest being inkjet and sounds like most inkjets in the past. The CS2 and DS620A are about the same noise level as each other. Let's put it this way, it's not exactly loud, but say there are speeches going on during the wedding reception and you're in the back of the banquet room printing... people will notice.

    Can you print black and white with these printers?

    • @Togger
      @Togger  Před rokem

      Sure can. Keep in mind a lot of dye sub printers can give off a bit of a tinge. The CS2 for example gives more of a green tinge on black & white prints. I prefer DNP for BW prints as far as event printers go.
