Box idea is cool. I think cutting the rail off will make for a rough ride. I call it tail whip.

I would make like a swinging door for the Max trax to where if you want into where the wood is you could just swing open the door while the trax are still in place and have access to the front of the trailer where the wood is. Love the build so far. I am getting so many Ideas off of this build. Keep it up man.

    1. Table. I would have still mounted the hinged frame for table on the original side, mount Max Track to it. Allowing it to fold down giving access to strapping down anything up front. Or still using has a table if needed.
    2. Side wells, basket good idea. But keep in mind how deep the tail end gets into the water when loading/unloading kayak.

Do the baskets and make your table as the lid for one of them and store your chairs in the basket two in one

How about mounting the table, then mounting the tracks to the underside of the table. Win/Win! When then table is folded up, the tracks are accessible.

The baskets are a good idea. You may have to move your lights back so they're not blocked.
Just a thought on the side table, you could mount the max Trax on the bottom of the table so you have both table and max Trax

I'd do the under body lockable tool boxes instead of wire mesh, keep stuff dry and safe ...

Baskets would be a good idea but you will have to relocate the tail lights

Side baskets a good idea but I wonder about the top opening might not be large enough to put firewood or much in there. The wheels and fenders look like it would be about 8 inches wide and if you use that large of an angle you will close the top up or make the trailer wider.

How about a slim diamond plate aluminum lockable watertite tool box? One on each side.

I think the side baskets are a good idea! I have a similar trailer that has a double axle. I want to put the expanded metal inside as well. It’s a perfect trailer for kayaks but it’s also being used as a farm flatbed so I can’t put all the racks and platforms on it, much as I want to. But it’s sounding good so far, this trailer of yours. I’m gonna approach my wife about me building a rack that can be slid into my trailer, that accomplishes something much like yours. I’m disabled and unable to drive. She’s the one using the trailer most often. I’m thinking about making my rack convert into a tent. Dunno yet. Like you, I often design on the fly. One step at a time.

If u go with the side boxes behind your fenders you might want to move your brake lights back as the Boxes might block easy viability if not totally unless the trailing vehicle is far enough back. But a mock up and swinging your trailer so you can bring your Taco up and back to verify tail light viability.

don't cut the side rails off, build the baskets, enclose the side next to the wheels with sheet metal, to keep it from getting muddy.

Hey, what if you lowered the maxtrax and build the table. Or ... build the table in front of the maxtraxs and have them either drop into or slide into a space between the table and frame. But maybe not looking as cool. I would say think like building a house, never enuff storage so side boxes are great you will want them later....

  • @scottmeserole
    @scottmeserole Pƙed 3 lety +3

I would not remove the side rails. The trailer gets its strength from the ladder design. Removing the top rail will greatly weaken the trailer and reduce the payload capacity behind the fenders/ axle.

I would not cut off anything// I would make baskets on the side like your thinking// me personally would have put the fishing tubes on opposite side and next to the opening of the towards the front I would have made a slide out that holds kitchen stuff and coman two burner built into it

  • @JaredWayne

I'd go with the basket idea but make sure your taillights will still be clearly visible or you could just find some fenderwell tool boxes that would fit the area

BASKETS HANDS DOWN!! I really don't understand why you feel a need to put that table on the side of the trailer. Having the fold up tables gives you unlimited choice of where you want to use them instead of a permanent mounted table on the side! Smart move not putting the table there!
