    7:29 The "System" theme is the GTK theme. When you apply a different theme on GTK, Gimp will follow that. It applies mostly to Linux users who use a GTK-based desktop environment and/or GTK-based programs. You can install a custom GTK theme and the whole system (including Gimp) looks consistent.

    20:54 Worth noting that, if you do too many manipulations to the image, the histogram takes on that characteristic “comb” appearance that indicates banding. It helps to start with raw images that have more than 8 bits per pixel component, to give you more dynamic range to play around. GIMP integrates GEGL technology, which means its effects and filters fully support pixels with components that are 16 bits or even 32 bits deep. Photoshop has limited support for 16-bit pixel components, and none at all for 32 bits.

    Very nice! TONS of information! Grampa just wants to crop an image to 4 x 6 and print the picture. Having used lots of MS photo programs this was easy and intuitive. Now using Linux Mint. How do you crop an image 4x6 in GIMP - fast and easy. Second tutorial: Fix red eye and QUICKLY enhance with brightness and contrast - if needed. Then Gramma and Grampa can quickly fix some pictures to save and print. Gramma and Grampa do not want to become professional photographers, at least not just yet. Does such a basic GIMP tutorial exist anywhere on the internet? This is the BASIC stuff non-Geeks need to know. A quick project - not a career education.

  • @SimonMordue
    @SimonMordue Před 2 lety

    I need some help. I just started using GIMP. I'm creating images for a pitch deck. I have about 11 layers going on, as I'm creating a mock film poster. I started to notice, yellow-ish lines, appearing in the project. They are clearly from where I have taken a photo, dropped it into Gimp (a layer) and created a path around an object (like an actress), shrunk them down to place them in the image to create the look I am after. It looks as though the initial outline (prior to shrinking the image) still remains, in faded form in the project. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIGURE OUT HOW TO REMOVE THEM? As they are clearly ruining the overall image I am building. Thank you! Simon

    Hi, i have a question,
    i remember with older gimp versions i could add an objet (crop) cut it from one image and past it to another image (the background image)
    and then i could erase the object's contours (by simply using the eraser) so i could see the background image
    exemple:
    i cut an airplane image from a gray sky background and past it to an image that has a nice blue sky background and then erase the airplane's grey sky color around it.
    i cant find out how to do it with lates 2.10.20 version. ..

    • @DaviesMediaDesign
      @DaviesMediaDesign  Před 4 lety

      Just make sure the layer has an alpha channel (right click on the layer and go to "Add Alpha Channel"). You could also use a layer mask to achieve the same effect. Should work the same though in GIMP 2.10.

    I just downloaded GIMP, and still, you can't use it because the Desktop icon doesn't exist and who knows where the executable program is.
    Ok, I am not a total 'tard, I got it running. Now I can scan my old photo prints into GIMP, but only one photo at a time, whereas my old PaintShop Pro software from 20 years ago will let my modern day scanner do multiple scans in one shot. Simple put, I can fit 5 photos on my scanner and the scanner will automatically crop and scan each photo, and then import all of them into PaintShop Pro in one shot, not with gimp. I can do it with Adobe Software, but I am not willing to rent software on a monthly basis that I will probably use twice a year.

I think it happened with the last update but since I’m bouncing between different programs and operating systems that is a guesstimate. I’ve looked through the settings but have not been Abel to see anything about them. Tried to just drag and drop as well like the dock able tools still no luck. What the heck did I click on ? Lol. I really appreciate this but lets face it, this is NOT a program for beginners, neither is Photoshop they are both awful! sure they're great to manipulate images but only if you're tech savvy, it is a lie that is usable by everyone, this is for beginners and you literally have to take a course to draw a square or a circle, it will take you a week to find out how to make a simple auto shape on a white canvas, get real, is painful to teach people that doesn't have the background, or are actually beginners at this, which is why your video is amazing, and your patience is impressive, but this is NOT for beginners, you're barely covering how to open the program in 26 minutes. Vector software like Paint for example will take 5 seconds to everybody with or without background because those are for beginners. The painting tools in Gimp and Photoshop are impossible! and the fact that you have to select EACH freaking feature makes it even more annoying, want to check something for beginners? try photodraw is like paint that makes layers by itself, everything is graphic and is basically copy paste, click drag for everything, in here to resize a photo you need to take a course, because you cant just click and the photo and drag it to resize it, you have to select the resizing tool and then input a value or figure out how to be able to finally click and drag, to draw a star auto-shape, keep googling take a course, to make an empty square or a square edge keep googling because that's another course and if you want the solid shape with 2 or more colors, you guessed it, another course... This is not for beginners, so if you're expecting to learn this is 1 minute or less use simpler software, even for us who have to work with it everyday for years since it released, we still need to figure and find out some of the features, just get ready to spend a lot of time in training.
